Arsenal Thread

As you say he is a good defender, how much is he going for? and who would you rather go to Milan the current Italian Champions or us? even if we did buy him the price would be over inflated. If we brought him in January it would have been overinflated and would he even want to go to us? people jsut seem to think these players will jump at a chance to play for us? doesn't work like that.

Free transfer, mate. We also picked up Taiwo from Marseille for free. £0 on 2 good internationals. :D

Nice! that would have been worth it then :DD

But also whether he would have come to us is a whole different question than how much he was going for.

Ac Milan are a huge club even without winning the league this season.

Commenting on all of the posts since my last one;

It all depends on who leaves/stays and who we get in of course.

As I said before, most games this season statistical wise, possession, shots on goals etc we have been the better team (apart from the few I mentioned and maybe a couple I am not remembering of course). If we can get another Forward to take the pressure off of Van Persie and pray that Van Persie can get a full season in, I think we can convert alot of the missed chances this season. Which will make a huge difference. Hopefully Chamack can stop being a douche bag and remember how he was scoring at the beginning of the season.

Defensively we have an ok record, comparable to the best defensive teams in the league. But we make ridiculous 'game ending' mistakes that have to be eradicated. Another top defender brought in to do this would be good. We also need to do extensive work on defending counter attacks, which for me is a whole team thing. Koscielny and Djourou are good defenders and have shown that they can be really good, so they are good for rotation.

Midfield, if Fab stays then all we need is a good defensive midfielder to help Song out. This is the one area we have been waiting an age on and Wenger has really let the team down with.

So I think we really are in need of about 3 players with experience and hopefully have won something. No matter what we have gone through this season, I still think we are close to having a really good team that gets results and can win things.

The mentality thing will get better with experienced signings and a change in mindset that Wenger needs to bring about.

If Wenger fails next season and doesn't address things properly then I feel he will definately go, more and more fans are getting frustrated and will call for his head if our team gives displays like that of Stoke at the weekend like we witnessed and have been witnessing over last few years over and over and not learning from. I think he will leave before he is sacked though.

Next season will be huge for Arsenal football club, it makes it all the more difficult, because I think that a large number of teams will be so much stronger than this season.

Next season will be huge for all the big clubs in England Bobby, you mentioned Arsenal. I might add some other clubs:

Man Utd: despite the title this year, they need younger players and certainly a new GK.
Chelsea: i'm pretty sure Drogba will leave and Lampard and Terry are also getting old: they need to rebuild. If they change manager, they will most certainly change things.
Man City: they will have one last spending spree before the financial fair play rules are working.
Liverpool: new owners, new manager, so this team wil certainly rebuild.
Spurs: i'm not sure if Redknapp will change much, but like most people i feel Spurs have failed this season and also need to rebuild (and if there is one big club that needs a new manager, then it's Spurs).

Next season will be one of the most exciting and (certainly) anticipated since a long time. In the end there will be not much change because Man Utd will once again win the league and objectively spoken you got to admire them for it...

ManCity will buy all they want lets wait and buy on the cheap. I dont mind getting Richards. I would like to concentrate on defense including stopper. Song has been great I want a "prick" with loads of experience give Song a to do list.

Buying on the cheap will not bring what many fans want. Will Kroenke want to spend big ? Or will Wenger at last decide to splash out or wait for the new financial rules to kick in ?

Kroenke is a No joke when it comes to his teams. Example He sold everybody, starting (5) players(Denver NBA) even their Icon player Carmelo and this was in February . Wenger does not have a friend in Kroenke and If Cesc want out he`ll do what he did to carmelo. So, Kroenke is willing to gamble in funds for success ,but We know Wenger has a different view of success and that`s do it his way.

Clearly the New rules are vague to me...Its spend what you`ve brought in revenue-wise? Tickets are on the up...Trip to China Merchandise ,commercial..etc (everybody has to go except Jack/Lansury)sell a few players ? Does this count from this summer or next?

Oh dear not another terrible American owner...... ;)

I think they kick in next summer which is why those clubs with finance will want to spend what they can this summer.

Other than that Arsenal are well placed financially in terms of having built a large ground which does well corporate wise and in terms of use and a cautious manager who prefers to develop players in house rather than splash out continually.

They were known as the Bank of England club after all. However much of the stadium costs have been defrayed by the Highbury Square development and the rest of the loans are still to be repaid.

Plus costs like wages are still going up due to the disgraceful greed of footballers indeed sportsmen as a whole in a time when most people are tightening their belts.

Overall you should be well placed currently unless as you say Kroenke decides to go nuts.

As in taking Arsenal as a performing troupe across the US pre season for the revenue.

i know we have two games left, and everyone says keep transfer talk - nonsense till after the end of the actual season.

rondon? however good the guy might be...pleeeeasee. one freaking good season. and to pay shitloads of money for these kinds of players who do "jurnalists" think AW is. he is right on prices being inflated.
BUT, he needs to buy and accept that this is the market. at least this year.
i was thinking: bobby can still be better than "some" wingers we might have at the time. no, koscielny is not an winger. leave the comparing to the oldies.

plus, like it's been said these last games are like some kind of audition for some players. i say: fuck that. if the likes of denilson has been crap for the whole season and years past, even if he produces some good performances there's no saving for this category of players that Arsenal has. quite a few actually. i know some helped, but i'll really enjoy reading how Almunia is being told he can sod off. i'm sorry, but if a 19y.o. is more reliable than him, he just needs to face the truth. it hurts more for him because the manager didn't realize this (for other players too) sooner and save them the misery.

apparently, now everybody is after Verthongen. you can't think of how intricate-minded some "jurnalists" / club scouts (maybe) have to be to just flock arround the new hot "chick" out of the pan.

p.s.: just trying to revive the thread. everything around arsenal seems near dead, withered, lifeless.

I don't bother with Transfer speculation anymore, most of it is bullshit.

Reviving the thread?! the last post was last night at around 22:30 wasn't it?

God you're pessimistic, I feel like topping myself after reading that last sentance

there are barely a couple of posts now and then. you might think arsenal is peachy, i don't. :|
but yeah, one should read transfer news more for amusement than anything.

I definately don't think it is peachy, but some perspective needs to be had here.

I really don't want to know how you'll be if we ever did go through some proper tough times?!

I don't think Xavi gets out of Barcelona, no matter how much money involved. Benzema would be great for Arsenal, but I think Madrid will either ask a lot of money or simply won't transfer him unless Tevez goes to Madrid...

Xavi to Manchester City...?

i give more chances to Maldini to play for City than this..

edit: and what pension? he is 31..best years for footballer...he can play next 5 years at high level

Xavi is Barcas main man imo.

1. I doubt they'd let him go anyway and 2. Why would he want to go? He plays keep ball for fun. Man City don't. Non brainer really.

i know at the moment he isn't a player we rely on anymore, but Rosicky is injuried again. the poor guy... he's carrier has truly been frozen by injuries.
on the other hand, vermy might start. let's end this season emirates appearances with a bang!

those transfer rumours are soap-opera-ish.

i was reading how adebayor was giving advice that the gunners should fight more, and how he would want to give his life to win... that's like lady gaga talking about catholic ethics.

For fucksakes. Pat rice stays! I hope this is not an indication that Wenger will be stubborn again and wont change the team yet again.

Thoughts?

Would you still back Wenger if come end of the transfer window we still have the exact same players and no newcomers?

Oh Pat Rice is the problem now is he? oh I see....

I'm glad Pat Rice is staying to be honest, I was sad when he said he might be retiring.

That is the thing, he was retiring, Wenger wasn't going to get rid of him, so why would it have any indication of him not changing the team?

If Wenger doesn't make changes then I would be very suprised, yes I would start questioning if he made no changes, no doubt about it. But I think he will :DD

Shit result today by the way :(( .......

A massive downer to say the least pay Nasri WHATEVER he WANTS!!!! spend £40 mil on defensive players ONLY...plug da holes on the SHip 1st for FFFFSS! pISSED ME RIGHT OFF da cunts of them rights tit mugs. NO drive No passion No f`n balls play for a check at least!:BRMM::SMUG::RANT::COOL::BOP::SHOCK::OOOH::OT::BYE::FAIL::))

Something I don't think I've seen mentioned here but is the first thing I notice EVERY time Arsenal are playing regardless of which team and in which competition is Arsene Wenger's body language! It says a LOT! A LOT about his state of mind and belief.

Players (some more than others but all to some extent) are like sponges and the manager's personality/attitudes and beliefs rubs off on them and forms their views and mentality to a large extent given the authoritarian relationship between the two. Ever notice how poor Arsene looks like a nervous, frustrated wreck who's in agony during matches and who's hoping things go his way and his team plays well rather than know they will and exude confidence? It's painful just watching him on the sidelines because the poor guy looks in so much stress! It'd be nice to see him smile for once, appear enthusiastic, excited rather than just constant 'worry' expression which is evident on his face EVERY time the camera shows him. Or he's complaining about something or clearly having a moan to Pat Rice, etc.

Every manager gets nervous on the touchlines, it's only natural but if you look at the likes of Mourinho or Fergie, they have this belief that their team will get the job done. This confidence, borderline arrogance that transmits to plays and they end up as champs because they believe they deserve it and are gonna get the job done. Not hope but believe.

I like Wenger a lot, one of the nicest guys as managers around too these days, but for me, it's evident that what he transmits to his players and team subconsciously is anxiety, worry and a large portion of a lack of self-assuredness. He doesn't want to, but he does because that's how he is himself.

Vermaelen did play and did it well, making takles, heading balls, going forward really well, seemed one of the few alive.
but this state that he is in is triggered by the status qvo of Arsenal right now, mounted upon the past season results. this kind of period has an impact on anyone's confidence. i think Wenger thinks he's in a nightmare, just can't seem to believe this is happening time after time, again and again.
this style of play of slick passes is really broken without Cesc. it's just working the defence and preparing a cutting pass, but apart from Jack no one seems capable of providing. but in Cesc's absence no final pass rarely comes, so it's just handball play arround the semi-cercle.
Chamakh had a different impact when he was played properly, but poor Bendtner...
this form is not just a result of not being good enough, the team's mindset is frozen right now.

You make a very good point about Wenger PLF.
I've never thought about that, but when i read your post i immediately had to think about the poor water bottles that are in Wenger's vicinity...
I agree with PLF and maybe Arsene should take a seat in the stands where he is less obvious to his players...

Problem is though Gerd, it's not really about them seeing him during the game... the players will be focused on the game for the most part anyway, it's not like they're looking towards the bench or can even see coach from across pitch to see his expressions... but the damage's already done by then. I mean this is the guy who SENDS you out there from the dressing room before the game and at Half-time and if you see he's worried pre-game and he's not saying: "Guys, we WILL win this game and we will show them who's the boss" but rather you can tell from his voice and his demeanor that he's hoping you'll get the business done rather than knowing, then damage's already done... mentality has been set... and people wonder why these players bottle it so many times in such key/late moments... why they don't seem to believe they can do it... just look at their manager and his mentality/personality, they get their lack of belief from him, especially the younger/new players. The same way Chicharito has immediately learned the ways of Manchester United always 'winning', an actual winner in Arshavin has gradually gotten worse and worst (with a few great performances here and there in between from a guy who used to be World Class and consistently great!) because you can see the belief simply isn't there... it's more a case of 'hope' to do well rather than 'belief' and that's a REAL problem!

Well the cycle continues, Arsenal give it a go and collapse COMPLETELY! you weren't going to win the league but you should have fought until the end to get 2nd place, instead just like the CL group stage you've put yourself into massive bother and could face Bayern Munich before the competition even starts.

I think mentally the squad of players won't believe you can do it next year unless their are major changes which I don't think will occur.

Every season is different. Who would have thought two seasons ago that Liverpool would do less good after a very hope giving season where they challenged for the title...

With a few good transfers Arsenal are title and Cl contenders next season.
