Arsenal Thread

Brilliant. We won and we deserved it completely. No body can begrudge us that win!

Fantastic!

I drank lots of Guinness last night and I have really black poo poos but I don't care because we beat Madrid at the Bernabeu! Oh yeah!

Anyone see the post-match interview with Henry? He was asked "Will this sort of performance make you sign a new contract?" He replied; "I wouldn't say that, no." He avoided all the questions about signing a new contract - he is SO leaving Arsenal.

Get out of here sister why would he SO be leaving.

You United fans need to be more concerned over your own players leaving. Why wouldn't Ronaldo want to take up the offer put to him by Juve, they are a better team than United so why would he want to stay in England?

I still feel Theirry will stay and hopefully we can build on this result in the prem and make sure we don't have to win this competition to stand any chance of being in the competition next season.

Shhhhh indeed :D

class.:applause:

if he does decide to go, which still remains to be seen, we should enjoy it while he is here. he is the greatest footballer at the club ever and quite arguably in the english league. as much as you mancs say you love him and whatever, you want him to leave. which 1. does prove you don't like arsenal and 2. that you must be fools not to want to be able to see him play every week and have him in our league. it wouldn't be the same without him.

Ronaldo is under contract - I was only posting what I had just seen on Sky Sports News. I don't think Henry would join Real Madrid, but DEFO Barcelona. Why would he leave? Lets look at Barcelona: Better wages, bigger stadium, more fans, better chances of winning domestic and European trophies, better players around him, better weather - need any more?

Of course I would like to see him leave: Arsenal are a threat to United and without Henry you are not half the team. That makes perfect sense, right? Just like you would LOVE to see Rooney sold abroad. We would all love Lampard or Terry sold abroad to make our football clubs lives easier, right? It all makes sense.

i dont rate lampard so i wouldn't care. i don't know if i would want all our players abroad. i was a little disappointed that madrid got one of our leagues best players in beckham. i was even more disappointed when they got owen. it's good to have competition, i'm more interested in arsenal, and who we bring in, than who you offload.

If Henry leaves, he leaves. I personally don't want anybody to stay at Arsenal that doesn't want to be there, including Ashley Cole.

Henry is a huge player (bit of an understatement!)for us and it will be a blow for us - but shit happens and Arsenal will sign another great player. We already have Van Persie and if Reyes can be consistant, we are half way there.

If we sell both Henry and Cole then we will get some money we can invest on a few other players.

Wenger will make Theo a striker anyway like he did with Henry, he will be amazing and all will be well with the world again!

Why would he stay? He was discovered at Monaco by Wenger, who gave him his first chance in football. After flailing at Juve he was rescued by his mentor, and subsequently converted into a striker and into the worldbeating player he is today. He owes his career and his status to AW and to Arsenal, something he has stated many many times. He's also captian and a hero amongst the fans. At Barca he'd be just another superstar, behind Eto'o and Ronnie. Plus is he guaranteed 1st team football?

The bottom line is there is a case for both him staying and leaving. He's clearly not made his mind up yet and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Sorry this is all so boring now. Nobody needs to be reminded about how he "could go" or how he "could stay", just leave it up to him.

I agree with you mate. I am always most concerned about United's signings, but it is always nice when your opposition offloads important players.

fair enough if you lot were buying him, but your not. do you honestly want barca to be the best team in the world? they are nearly there and i'm sure thierry would complete that puzzle. i don't think it's good if any "great" players are offloaded to foriegn leagues. i'm proud to have the prem as our league and even more proud to have players like henry and rooney playing in it. i like the fact that tams like barca and real want ours players, and like it even more that for so long they haven't been able get him.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

Joystick, quality stuff mate :applause:

It is getting boring talking about Henry's contract, lets just leave him to decide. My final word on the matter is that my gut feel is he will stay providing we can give him Champions League football. If not, I wouldn't blame him for leaving.

Last night was brilliant, I cannot remember being so nervous before a game for ages. The beer was going down far too quick . I haven't felt this good about a European result since Inter Milan back 2003.

I am not getting carried away though, its only half time and there is job to be done in the 2nd leg. Lets hope we can kick on from here in the league.

OUR SEASON STARTS HERE!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

Barca rule out Henry bid Wed, Feb 22 2006 12:52
Barcelona have dismissed talk of a massive summer swoop for Thierry Henry, despite constant speculation about the Frenchman's future.
Henry, who netted a superb winner for the Gunners against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu on Tuesday, is out of contract at the end of next season, with talks about a new deal still ongoing.

However, Barca vice-president Ferran Soriano told BBC Radio Five Live: "There are a lot of rumours in this industry, but we are very happy with the players we have.

"He is an amazing player. Everybody would like to have Thierry Henry in their team, all the teams in the world.

"But he has a team and a contract and we respect that. One day if he is available we would talk, but not now."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is still confident that Henry will stay put, while the France striker also pledged his future to the club in a press interview several weeks ago.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

What a great match, i had no chance here in switzerland to watch it.
reyes had to score, also the header from henry. oh and what a mistake by senderos but the rest was great, also hleb played a good match

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

Come on, you've gotta love Big Phil! He's always got that rabbit in the headlights look on his face, but he's quality for a 20 yr old. Remember, Tony Adams was hardly faultless when he come through. Centreback is a thankless position.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

I'm sure Swiss Tony will be fine once he starts to build his confidence. Having Monkey head training can only be a good thing!

my voice is totally gone from last night, i had a sore throat before hand and knew if i celebrated it would be lost.

i don't think any gooners think we are through, we are just enjoying our moment of glory...achieving something even the "mighty" manchester united couldn't.

hmm....green eyed monster anyone?
Theres nothing wrong with that but when you said you cried, I think thats the part that was weird to everyone. I mean, if it was the second leg and you looked like you were about to get knocked out but pulled off a great win, MAYBE then it would be normal to cry.

Those tears of joy could easily turn into tears of sadness...

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

I didn't get to see the match, but I saw the match report and I was constantly checking the teletext for goals. I was almost jumping when I saw Real 0 - 1 Arsenal. Really a great day for Arsenal. I hope that from this day on their form starts to get better so they won't have to go to the qualifiers for the next year's CL.

Btw, I wasn't so sure if Arsenal can win this one and I was very nervous before the match started.

I have to agree with you here. As much as I'd like to see Arsenal struggle without Henry, I'd still love to see him continue playing at Arsenal.
He's a great player and character on and off the pitch. Such a joy to watch. The goal against Madrid made the opposition look like a bunch of nobodies. What a class act.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

well great job done, damn i wished we had scored a second, Henry got anotehr chance with only the keeper to beat and he lashed his shot a mile wide, that was dissapointing! but he scored a cracker.

Even Pires had a decnet chance only to hit straight at cass.

Yeah i was dissapointed with senderous, the truth is he nearly cost us the game last nght, beckham should have scored when he screwed his pass up, he should have scored!

Just one thing that I cant take anymore, why the hell do Arsenal players refuse to shoot from the edge of the box???? on a number of occasions our players could have tried to at least test the keeper out from the edge but they try to pass it, I think Hleb had a great chance to shoot but didnt smack it, its one thing that we need someone to shoot from outside the box, think about it remmeber Liverpools comeback last year in the CL final, they got a crucial goal from distance.

IMHO Eboue was sheer class, he along with Toure was excellent, and when Coles back and Cambell we will have a rock of a defence.

And you know what, Reyes showed that Cincinho is not a right back HA HAA Ha!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

Yeah, I love to see good players in the prem, Arsenal without Henry wouldn't be the same. Every team should have those few players you just fear when you see their name in the team sheet against your team. The Henrys, Owens, Rooneys, and as long as they're in the prem, it'll remain the most exciting league in the world (well in my humble opinion anyway ;))

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Real Madrid 0 - 1 Arsenal

Well done goons!!

You's absolutely played them off the park for the majority of the game....

Reyes, Hleb, Gilberto, Ljunberg, Toure, Eboue and the excellent Cesc all played well and you's could have scored at least two or three....

If you's had played like that away from home all season you wouldnt have a problem (although Madrid we're pretty poor)...

Anyway well done!

i never said i cried...just that i felt like it. andi don't think we are through yet, i'm just over the moon that we won a match, and such an important one too. it just proved to me and everyone else that we are still a quality side capable of truely beautiful football.
