Beckham hails Henry the great
------------------------------------
David Beckham has admitted he would "love it" if Thierry Henry was to join him at Real Madrid - but admits it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

The England captain considers Arsenal's record goalscorer a "great friend" and, while he will be doing all he can to knock Henry and his Gunners team-mates out of the Champions League, he would rather be on the same side as the highly-prized Frenchman. However, despite frenzied speculation linking Henry with a move to Spain - with Barcelona looking the likely destination - Beckham reckons he will still be an Arsenal player next season.

"Henry is happy in London and playing for Arsenal and I believe that he wants to remain there," Beckham told Marca ahead of the first leg of Tuesday's last 16 clash.

He added: "We talk a lot, he is a very good footballer and an incredible person. He is a friend of mine and his wife will be with mine for the game.

"If he was thinking of coming to Real Madrid I would love it because he is a great friend and a great player, but having said that I would not change any of the players we have for anyone in the world."

Beckham cannot wait to play his first competitive game against an English side since leaving for Spain two-and-a-half years ago and believes victory could propel the stuttering Spanish giants all the way to the Champions League final.

"We have to beat Arsenal, it is clear. We have to win, we are ready and we are united. We need to win a big competition and if we can beat Arsenal then anything can happen," Beckham said.

"At the moment it is the most important game we have ahead. Tuesday will be special and very different. I have waited three years for this moment as since I first wore a Real Madrid shirt I wanted to play a team in England.

"For me to play in England, where I was born, is very special. It will be very tough though as the public are very passionate."

he kind of hinted on parkinsin that that wouldn't be a problem.

i can't believe we're still talking about this, a little while ago it was all done and dusted. JUST SIGN THE GOD DAMN CONTRACT!!!

Ain't gonna happen mate. He has realised that he could win trophies at clubs like Barcelona - it is not going to happen at Arsenal for a while and Thierry hasn't exactly got time on his side.

tbh there is no guarentee of trophies at any 'big' club in this new day and age in football. prior to last season, who knew barcelona and chelsea would win any trophies, they were merely average teams before under van gaal and ranieri. furthermore, look at it in terms of AC milan, real madrid, arsenal and man utd, these teams tradtionally are supposed to be dominant yet they are all relatively struggling

chelsea had a load of money at there disposal thats how they one trophies. once barca got thier new chairman you could see what he had in mind, his first signing was ronaldinho, and then they signed deco and guily, arguably the best players from the champs league in that season. and then eto'o...it was no surprise they became as good as they are.

Well to be fair, Barca's history and tradition played a part in attracting their players cuz Barca arent mega rich like Chelsea.

Bit depressing... from Football365.com

'Henry is Arsenal's only fit striker'
Monday February 20 2006

Already deprived of seven defenders, Arsenal reportedly have just one fit striker, Thierry Henry, available for Tuesday night's Champions League date with Real Madrid.

The Frenchman is thus expected to be given a lone frontman role in front of a five-man midfield, with Robert Pires or Freddie Ljungberg playing just behind him..

Arsenal's options have been reduced by the news that Robin van Persie, Dennis Bergkamp and Jose Antonio Reyes have all failed to recover for the trip to Spain.

New signing Emmanuel Adebayor is unavailable after playing in the UEFA Cup for Monaco.

While Wenger has young attackers Arturo Lupoli and Theo Walcott available, he is unlikely to start either in such a high-profile match.

It had been hoped that the Gunners would be bolstered by a return for either or both Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy at left-back but manager Arsene Wenger confirmed at the weekend that Mathieu Flamini would once again have to fill in. Kolo Toure, set to be paired with Philippe Senderos in the centre of defence, will be the only member of Arsenal’s first-choice back four on duty in the Bernabeu.

Likely team: Lehmann; Eboue, Senderos, Toure, Flamini; Ljungberg, Hleb, Fabregas, Silva, Pires; Henry.

if we play 4-5-1 like we did against united in the FA Cup Final, then it's going to be a long night! :(

Well, I think Real Madrid is in better form at the moment than Arsenal... but it is known that very frequently teams that are playing very bad football and getting bad results at their domestic leagues do perform rather well in Europe. It is possible that Arsenal gets very motivated to play against Real Madrid, and that they do extremely well tomorrow...

...I hope not!

Good news about cole, but it is his first game back, so I won't be expecting much.

Also very bad news about our forwards - I think we should definately play two up front with Lupoli and see how it goes. we need to attack them - if we don't I feel we will get Royaly Bummed!!

Please god don't let us get bummed! let us get an away goal, PLEASE!!

i don't think anyone wants to get bummed... unless her name is Angelica Sin! :D

On a serious note, the last time we played Pires behind Henry, we were very very poor. Can't remember which game this was, but i remember me self throwing my sandwich at the tv, and then spending 30mins cleaning the rug!

Edit: Can't remember the last time we played good neither! :(

To beat Real Madrid, Arsenal needs to:

- Stop Guti. He's the real playmaker right now. Zidane can be astonishing for 60 minutes, but Guti is the one to track and block. I'd put a player beside him for 90'. Stopping Guti from driving the game, and passing that duty to Gravesen, is being halfway there.

- Try to lock the sides. Beckham+Cicinho and R.Carlos+Robinho are proving lethal to the rivals lately. Should Arsenal play with fast wingers, both Cicinho and R.Carlos would have to stay back... and that would enormously decrease R.Madrid's attacking power.

Said that... what should Real Madrid do to win against Arsenal? Our team will be:

---------------------Ronaldo--------------------
-Robinho---------------------------------Beckham
------------Guti--------------Zidane------------
------------------Gravesen----------------------
R.Carlos---------------------------------Cicinho
-----------S.Ramos----------Woodgate-----------
-------------------Casillas---------------------

What will Arsenal's formation be?

See Ashley Cole is it true he was involved in some gay sessions with Jenas and a Choice FM DJ? Seriously guys!

-

If Lyon are apable of beating Real Madrid 3-0, we've got every chance to have a go at them. Not saying Lyon are a lesser team or anything.

I originally heard it was Jenas and Mcfadden and was the told by quite a few people that it was Cole and Pennant.

Why would you want a bloke when you have tweedy?

---------Henry------------
------------Pires---------
Hleb---Joy of Cesc--Silva--Freddie
Cole/Flamini--Senderos--Toure--Eboue
------------Lehmann---------------

I think it'll be damage limitation...

Likely team: Lehmann; Eboue, Senderos, Toure, Flamini; Ljungberg, Hleb, Fabregas, Silva, ;

That doesn't look too bad, does it? I mean, Hleb is a fast player, Ljunberg can still fool R.Carlos and his crazy behaviour, Cesc+Silva seems a good pair, Pires is class and Henry is a superstriker.

Maybe Flamini-Senderos-Eboue is a bit weak... but hey, if Ashley plays, and Gilberto+Cesc do a good defensive work...

I mean, here in Madrid there's hope we'll win... but I sense a bit of fear towards Arsenal. I can easily see Madrid getting 2-0 to the last 15 minutes and then Tití scoring a screamer from 30 meters. 2-1 would be tough to resist at Highbury... wouldn't it?

i just hope to god we don't get smashed. fucking hell, only last year i would be predicting a win (not to say we can't win, just i'm not confident of it), and look at us now.

4-5-1 will not be a good idea, freddie or pires up front has never worked but i would prefer that to 4-5-1. we need to go there looking for a win, that could be our only chance. does arsene not realise we can't sit back? over the years, even at our peak, we couldn't hold onto a lead, we need to attack.

Also arsenal don't tend to play all that well on larger pitches, and real's is well, huge.

I think real will be a bit tentative to start, but if they get a goal, I fear the floodgates will open up. Arsenal cannot afford to try and soak up pressure in their own third, its just not their strength. I'll eb impressed with them if they just go out there and give it a go, unlike most teams that would do anything for a 0-0.

i think tommorow night could be the rebirth of Hleb. at stuttgart he managed always managed to play expectionally well in the big european and international games (e.g. man utd and chelsea 2004 CL & italy and scotland WCQ 2005) but then again he may need time like henry, bergkamp, pires and ljungberg needed
