Arsenal Thread

Your very own pisshead, Sir Alex Ferguson! He doesn't speak to the BBC at all post match, he sends Carlos Queerbloke to speak for him.

Oh wait OMG you just called Quieroz Queerbloke . You really are showing how dumb you are clockender, you should be put in prison for calling him such a name. Thats a REAL insult! ;)

Does anyone remember when we used to discuss football on this thread, instead of constantly bicker?

I don't.

Anyway, Sky Sports claim we've signed a new defender:

I've never heard of Carl Parisio, but thats probably because he's.....................

](*,) I'm all for signing quality youth but PLEASE sign some experienced players boss. We really need some 24-27 year olds as the current crop have gone sour. I'm glad Wenger is giving chances to young players and not just throwing them on for 10 minutes every now and again, but I can't help but think players like Fabregas are playing too many games at the moment.

Joystick you are dead right, signing the youngsters is great for the future, but we need proven quality now!! We are going to have to wait until the summer but its goingto be a defining time in Wenger's reign. I really hope he gets rid of the dead wood and replaces them with hungry experienced players who want to play for this magnificent club of ours.

lol That wont happen if arsenal dont secure champions league football next season i assure. Most money with be put towards funding back the loans towards the new stadium. Maybe with the 14/5 million you recieve for henry. Then arsenal be able to go and buy some replcements for some of the has beens like pires, ljunberg and gilberto. Then there is question who will want to join club that is on decline.

I agree though, arsenal need some quality experience. Not no more little boys.

I say there's a notable, considerable difference between a club which is in decline and a club that's in terminal decline. We're not Leeds ffs. Regardless of what happens in one season, we're still an attractive club with one of the game's most respected managers. If anyone knows how to turn nobodies into stars its AW. I think it will take at least 2 seasons to get back to where we were, but it can be done.

This season has been piss poor, but only by our (probably overinflated) high standards. People who whinge and moan about our form should remember we're not Man Utd, Chelsea or Liverpool, we're Arsenal, a mid-sized club by international standards who have punched well above their weight for the last 8 or so years.

Our success has come down to fine margins. The double winning teams of 97/98, 01/02 and the 'unbeaten' 03/04 were all taken from VERY thin squads. We were blessed in those seasons with just a few injuries meaning our 1st team had time to gel and play together as a unit (remember the "together" huddles after each goal?)

This year, the extent of our small squad has been exposed by unfortunate injuries and the ACN. The constant chopping and changing does not make for a solid unit. But that's far from the whole story. Three of our biggest players, Pires, Campbell and Ljungberg have fallen below par all at the same time. When you couple that with the gamble of selling both Edu and Vieria, the squad is too young, too weak, too attacking and unfortunately in some cases, past it.

Tough decisions need to be made in the summer. We need consistency and experience. We need someone to compete for Fabregas' position, we need an experienced centre back, and we need commitment from our captain. Freddie might be worth another season, it pains me to say it but Pires is not. His indecision is affecting his form and he looks to be coasting to me. He's still managed 8 goals this term but we can't afford bit part players.

There's still a lot of talent in the side, Van Persie is as good a 22 year old striker as you will find, Fabregas has real potential but he carries far too much responsibility for an 18 year old (I was still working in Tesco at 18!), Clichy, Hleb, Reyes, Senderos, Diaby, Adebayor the list goes on. All can be world beaters but they're all 2-3 years away from peaking. We need a few unflashy grafters to show the kids how to get stuck in or I fear we will end up a team of has beens and high potentials.

i really think you have no money. If a big offer came for any of your players at the mo, i think they would take it. You need to tread water until you're in the new stadium and bringing in good money, then rebuild.

I have no worries about our future, even if we sell Henry and Cole. Arsene Wenger has proved he can get the best out of many players (Henry being the Prime example) so I have no doubt he will do it again, hopefully with some of the youngsters we have at the moment.

Hopefully we will get a pretty penny for Henry and cole anyway so we can buy some other quality players.

To be honest the only person I would be devestated to lose at arsenal would be Wenger.

Surely Wenger is part of the problem??

Many Man Utd fans have also thought that since we brought so much success to the club using kids, Sir Alex will do it again. The sad truth is that we'll never see a crop of young players like that cuz things have changed now.
Its the same with Wenger. Just cuz he did something in the past, its foolish to think he could pull it off again.

Not foolish my friend, not talking about kids- talking about Ljundburg, Pires, Toure, Vieira, Henry, etc etc

Wenger has a great eye for a player - it is a gift and one that keeps on giving.

believe me it will happen again. Wenger is the man.

I'm not saying its impossible cuz thats something thats left to be seen.
And I'm not talking about kids. I'm talking about assuming Wenger (or any other manager for that matter) can do something just because he has done it in the past.
Just cuz he found a gem in Thierry Henry, it doesnt mean he'll find another one. And if you look at all his recent signings, although they are ok, they dont even look like they'll eventually be even half the player Henry is today.

No No, He is the solution!!

how do you work that out?

your captain left last season, your new captain doesnt seem interesed and also wants out, ljunberg and pires are shocking this year, and I wont even start on the defense......

what used to be good flowing football turned into the long ball against liverpool, and when teams like bolton know how to beat arsenal, its up to the manager to change it, only wenger doesnt....

the one saving grace of the season could be the CL, and if you win that you would have the added bonus of stopping Spurs getting into the comp if they reach 4th place...

But even winning the champions league. That would enhance Henrys chances of leaving since he would of won everything he could at the club and reiterate his desire to find a new challenge. Its a lose lose situation. Thats why is inevitable that Henry will leave. Imo its wengers fault for not showing enough ambition and signing players that matter when he had the chance.

henry wants out regardless, if he didnt the contract would be signed, simple as that...

personally i'll be sorry to see him go, he's been great to watch and although he's never impressed me when ive watched him play at OT, his quality is there to be seen, even if he is a flat track bully...

before henry there was anelka, it's not a one off. we have v. persie now who looks set to be a great. i think its better to start looking for the future, maybe he sees this transitional period to be short term, and if he can persuade henry that that is the case thierry still might stay. there is no manager that has consistently found amazing players at such a young age than wenger. he is still the future...

this whole henry shit is boring now. sooner he decides what he wants to do, the better. for the sake of the rest of the team id like henry to be forthcoming about what hes going to do, if he tells us hes going to leave, atleast we can ease him out of the sqaud match by match so the team finds ways to cope without him bit by bit.

He has had one bad season (so Far) - he made a couple of mistakes getting rid of Vieira and Edu and not replacing them.

How was he to know Pires and Ljundberg were not going to play well this season?

How was he also to know that our whole defence would be out (including back up players) for a long period. How was he also to know Campbell one of our most reliable star players was going to have a break down!

Alot of these factors are out of his control, but I admit he has made mistakes - as everybody does.

Bolton are a well established team in the Premiership these days - you make them sound like relegation material!

our new captain is second top goalscorer in the league. I know he is fantastic but he can't do it every game.

I can't see us winning the champions league with the team we have at all. Our game has also frustratingly changed into a long ball game for large parts. This is all very frustrating - but all can be resolved by Wenger, We will have to wait and see. But I have every faith in him.

You talk of Wenger like he is a spent force and that is very silly and premeture!

If it happens again next season then I will be pissed off.

"I am fed-up of carrying the team and feel bored at Arsenal. I quite fancy a move to sunny Barcelona. Wenger GET ME OUT OF HERE!"

not excatly a spent force, but you can be at a job too long, and it seems he's run out of ideas....

but yes there is plenty left in the season for him to turn it around, I think its getting highlighted cos there has been such a drastic change at the club in less than two years...

You could say Abramovich has ruined Wenger and Fergies lives!

us being taken over has ruined us not Abramovich, and arsenal have never been big spenders anyway, yes its upset the applecart but to be fair it was time for another team to come to the front...

as far as the football side, we went thru a bad patch but we're playing good football and barring the CMF position I couldnt be much more happier with the team or squad....

WOW that's a new picture and what a clever quote, did you do that all by yourself?

Why thankyou! Yes, I did it all by myself. \\:o/

we we're never big spenders but players like wright-phillips were made too expensive to us by chelsea. it could have all been a lot different. also united with essien and now obi mickel...it has done a lot.
