Arsenal Thread

You're such a drama queen Jonney. He's your best striker. Only RVP is close and he's more of a SS. The reason he's not playing well is bad harmony in the dressing room and he probably wants to leave.

Ade is not our Best striker, its RVP. RVP has always been our best striker after Henry left. If Ade wants to leave, he can leave. We'll get someone Better. But i would not want him to leave rite now, We need to buy players not sell any rite now.

Arshavin would be great. You guys have lacked a goal scoring midfielder, ever since Pires left. Shame he's going to be of no use unless you get a defensive midfielder.

Very true. Song just doens't cut it, and the most effort Diaby puts in on game day is pulling on the Arsenal shirt.

On the subject of Diaby, i am slightly annoyed that he is now playing in his preferred position, and still plays shite. How this guy is a professional footballer is beyond me.

There was so much promise with Diaby - He played a couple of games at the begginning of the season and looked really impressive.I can't believe the performances he is putting in now!

Really dissapointing!

The thing is though, I bet if we sell him, he will play amazing for whoever he plays for.

I just can't believe what a good move that'd be. In the summer they were talking about near £30m for Arshavin, and now he might go for less than half that, just a few months later. Incredible.

Ronaldo better still be worth £80m this summer.....

I dont think Arshavin is what Arsenal needs I mean too short and too much promises. Get flamini :BYE: back especially if Wenger is saying the game is getting too defensive then defend back!

@ JonnyMendoza - He was always going to go for a record breaking figure, and given his new contract with United (and Calderon's desperation) it was always going to be a ridiculous amount. Anyway, doesn't matter now. But to suggest he was only worth £40m last summer is just stupid following Robinho/Berbatov etc.

Which brings me to the rumour that Kaka to Man city may actually happen, in which case if I were Arsenal I'd be whoring myself to bring in Stephen Ireland. He's exactly what you need and if there's any threat of him not getting a starting place, he seems like the type to up it out of there. Maybe they'll keep him playing alongside Robinho and Kaka and who knows who else, but if I were him I'd want a steady, assured place in a big team rather than always be at threat of some bazillinaire's whim.

Completely differnet player to those two though. And signing Arshavin and Ireland would be strange as you need a DM not two attackers.

'Progressing' with the Ashavin transfer. I'm worried he's made no comment on the DMF/CB question.

I dont know whether you read that particular Wenger's Interview on Arsenal.com, but i remember that he said clearly that he does not need any one on the defensive side. He said that we have "enough" defensive players. I dont know by that who he meant. If he thinks they are Denilson and Diaby...then we still have a long long way to go.

If Arshavin lands up in Arsenal, for sure he'll be playing on the wing or probably AMF. As we all know that Fabregas is good defensively too, i think Arshavin might play AMF and Fabregas might turn up to be a DMF like Vieira.

I read something where Wenger said he was aware that we needed a defensive midfielder at least and maybe a defender? but I can't remember where I read it, it was a couple of weeks ago.

Oh man that's bullshit from Arsenal.

Fabregas was at his best last season due to Flamini's running and closing down. I also think Flamini was key in Toure/Gallas defensive partnership being so good. He was an excellent screener of the CB's.

Now we have this bullshit duo of Song and Diaby who i couldn't give a fuck about, and who don't give a fuck about Arsenal. Wenger seriously can't sit back at the Aug-Dec campaign and honestly think we're ok?

- Almunia is becoming erratic at best.

- We have had 9 CB pairings - all leaky. Long ball over the top, = goal in 80% of games.

- DMF position hasn't been filled to any level of success - Song, Diaby, Eboue.

- Diaby, Denilson, Song being played in AMF/WF positions is a joke.

- We're STILL culpable at set peices and corners.

- No steal in the midfield - Vieira, Flamini, Diarra.

We DO have a lot of injuries, so fair play, but we have no way near the squad depth and bench quality than the other top 3.

I have no idea what we're doing this transfer window, and Wenger's comments on the Arshavin transfer - "if we don't sign anyone in January, we don't sign anyone" had me wanting to through my remote at the TV in disgust.

Come on mate, that's how AW plays they game. Always has done, always will do, in all likelihood. I've always had the impression that Wenger would prefer to never speak to the media if he had the choice. His view seems to be that by hyping up and responding to speculation you lower your chances of landing your targets, and I for one agree.

Imagine if it were the other way, if in his first Jan press conference Wenger came out and said, "Right, I want a centre back, defensive midfielder and a creative midfielder. Possibly a winger if I can squeeze a few more bin lids out of Peter Hill Wood and Danny Fiszman."

Can you imagine the drama? The Arshavin thing is already long, and that's just from one club letting details of negotiations slip. It would be a newsnow shit storm.

Wenger is in all likelihood always looking for players in all positions, but he's never going to come out and say that lest we become prime targets for the media circus, which is no help to anyone.

wait a minute. in that interview AW says he doesn't want a Center Back, wich is a bit understandable because we have Toure, Gallas, Silvesta and Djourou, plus Senderos and A. Traore will return in the summer.
Spilling out info abt negotiations will only bring trouble at least for the buyer, the price will rise, the claims will be higher, etc.
IMO, Gallas and Silvestre are has-beens, but maybe AW doesn't want to make unnecessary spendings when an AMF and a DMF are way more needed.
Because if you look at the squad closely we need: GK, CBs, DMFs, AMF, a good CF. those can't be jost poped into the squad all at once.

Also, I think Arsenal should have an advantage of more money in this crysis period. Arsenal didn't spend much in the last season, even more we selled players at good prices.

If I was AW, i'd get rid of Diaby and Song in a second. They contribute with nothing. I mean while it was obvious Song is shit from the very begining, Diaby promised, but time has passed and he's not even promising at all.

Let's just for the best and that AW will bring Arshavin and a DMF at the Emirates.

I had a knee jerk reaction ;)

What happened to eduardo? before i went on holiday mid december, eduardo played a reserve match. i would of thought he would be at least on the bench now for arsenal?

Now Wenger is saying that Arshavin is not the only player they are after. Well that should be some kind of a good news. He also says that Arshavin is nowhere near signing.

Walcott, Eduardo, Fabregas and Rosicky will all be back by March and April and he says they'll be like new signings. But seriously does that mean that if he doesnt sign anyone this winter, is he going to wait for them till March and April, when we'll be completely out of CL and FA and wont even be in a position to gain a 4th spot?? Seriously, Wenger needs to sign someone real good.
