Eduardo intent on swift recovery

Arsenal's Eduardo says he is determined to make a swift return to football after undergoing surgery for a double compound fracture of his leg.

The striker was moved from Birmingham to a London hospital on Sunday.

"All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank," he said.

"My concentration is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury."

The 24-year-old suffered the horrific injury on Saturday after a tackle from Birmingham captain Martin Taylor, who was sent off.

He will miss the rest of the season and Croatia's Euro 2008 campaign, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger fearing a "much longer" absence.

"It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football," Eduardo added.

"I would like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time."

Croatia manager Slaven Bilic described the injury as "horrible" while Croatia captain Niko Kovac said: "I can't believe such brutality still exists in football."

But Bilic played down Eduardo's absence from the Euros, adding: "Most important is he recovers as soon as possible and resumes his career."

Really hope everything goes well for Eduardo and he is back fit and healthy soon.

On another note - great to see Walcott get a couple and with him Van Persie back soon - we should have great cover for Eduardo.

Just hope they bang in some goals and they use the Eduardo situation to give them a bit of something extra to win the title!!

Club releases statement with update on Eduardo injury

The Club can confirm that following the incident during Saturday’s match at Birmingham City, Eduardo has fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg.

He was immediately taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent surgery on Saturday evening. The operation was successful and Eduardo was transferred to a London-based hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier today (Monday 25th February), the Orthopaedic surgeon and Arsenal medical staff assessed the extent of the damage and possible time scale for a full recovery.

All being well, Eduardo will have his leg in plaster and using crutches for the next six to eight weeks. After that time, partial weight-bearing exercises will be scheduled into a slow rehabilitation process.

It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months time and making a full recovery after nine months.

Eduardo will be released from hospital in a few days.

The Arsenal medical team would like to take this opportunity to thank Birmingham City FC for their assistance on the day as well as the surgical and ward staff on S2 at Selly Oak Hospital for their expert medical care.

In addition, and on behalf of Eduardo, the Club would like to thank everyone for their many touching messages of support.

Usually bones grow back stronger than before.Sounds like its not a clean break to me though. With the current medical technology, injuries like Eduardo has can be easily treated and cured.Take a good look at Alan Smith,I think his case is worse as he collapse under his own weight but look at him now,a starter for Newcastle United. What Eduardo really needs is his own mental strength plus support from his peers and just continue his rehab and work hard.Cheers Goons.

Villa at home next for you lot whilst we have got a tricky trip to Fulham and Derby away after that.

Funny thing was the Croatian journalists trying to break into Martin Taylor's car outside the Brum training ground!

The Croatian FA president went to see him and said he expected to see a broke man, but was impressed with Eduardo's mentality.

Villa will be tough now, and as Funguson likes to put it, the next two months are definitely 'squeaky bum time'.

Will we play Walcott and Ade up front or Walcott and Bendtner. Ade and Bendtner really don't seem to gel.

stick walcott and Ade up front - I really want to see Walcott do well.

He can be a Hero if he plays well up to the end of the season!

I think Bendtner & Ade will be a lethal combination they can own the box , professionals need to see past personal differences for the better of the team. You lots sound like you condon Ade's attitude :( lets face the reality walcott doesn't have the body to fight off a proper cb much less a top flight cb. Walcott is suited to sub in at the 70th minute, when cb been jumping all day fighting crosses then his speed will get him in. To start Walcott just encourages and gives backs hope ,but to be fair AW does this to improve his game imo it's a gamble you don't see fergie doing that or grant/mourinho . I do trust AW he has prove me wrong w/ fab & clichy both players seem to be short in performance like walcott...so as you see MY OWN arguement is solved....it's tough fighting yourself

bend-ade is the winning ticket

Totally agree.

There was the break on when Ade could have squared it to Bendtner for 3-1, but with the rich vein of form he was in, he probably banked on himself to score.

you honestly think it had nothing to do with the altercation they had a few weeks ago....
that`s it a few weeks ago how long can a grudge be... I notice bendtner going to him afew times to give`em a hand to help him up. To us it`s obvious ,but it may very be a battle for the golden boot. He already won BBC African Player of the Year. He is coming from 12 goals last season now to 22 in all comp. good things can always bring abit of the bad...too early to tell

Ade needs to realise that Arsenal Football Club are and always will be bigger than him. What's more important? The first title in God knows how many years or his bloody Golden Boot?

ehmmm lets get one thing set right here, the replayes showed Ade was not looking to his right throughout the move, so it was not personnel or selfishness, he was in on goal and was looking only one way. and in that position he has to shoot.

Credit to bendtner he made a great run just too late for Ade to see him.

i think that had a part to play in it as well, as he did look up before shooting. Sky should a replay of him looking right just before shooting, however, i believe as top striker with Ronaldo for so many weeks, although Ron has now pulled clear, he had another agenda.

During the Brum game,I can clearly see the lack of communication between Adebayor and Bendtner.Going for the same ball, not passing to each other and the lack of movement between the two as a pairing forward.Mr Wenger certainly need to sort this out quickly.

LOL it clearly shows in teh replay that he had a look and saw bendter. clearly where not talking about the same game

I dont care how much you're struggling for options, if you (the manager) knows there's a problem between two players, you just dont play them together. I'd honestly rather play O'Shea alongside one of them than put them together and risk losing the game.

What's wrong with O'Shea? He scores winning goals at Anfailed & can even play as Goalkeeper!

I love the fact that Wenger is moaning about other teams kicking Arsenal around the park when he had the notorious & "dirty" Arsenal team which consisted of Pires, Vieria and co who picked up 1000 red cards one season. What goes around COMES around Mr. Wenger. ;)

Not all those were justified though - We made the odd fouls - but we never kicked teams about for whole games.

Man U on the other Hand when we were playing our best football and won the league - MAn U couldn't keep up with us and subsequently kicked us about - for whole games.

Van Nistlrooy should have been sent off on many occasions - but was kept on.

Stats aren't always the best things to go by.

So I think Wenger is very right in what he says :DD

Now I understand why Arsenal won the fairplay award in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006.

Injuries, owngoals, offsides, penalties...

and we're still first placed
