Arsenal Thread

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

don't we all, saw some Prem Years on sky the other night..

dude was ice cold!!

but funnily enough I dont think of henry the same way...

Dennis will always be my No 1.

I've got the DVD with his and Henrys first 100 goals and I have watched Bergkamps one about 10 times and Henry's once.

His goals were magical. Him coming to Arsenal and Wenger have made what Arsenal are today.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

Will never forget the Iceman as long as I live, sheer class. I remember the excitement of him joining, it was the end of the Graham years and the start of something so new and entirely different. (Wasn't it Bruce Rioch that signed Denis though?)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

Yeah Brucey bought him. But Brucey didn't last long!

He was the catalyst for the players we subsequently got and the style that we play with.

When Wenger came in it was all Magic!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

I 1st saw Dennis at WC`94 in Orlando,FL score a goal vs Morocco and Ireland . So I was happy when Arsenal sign him.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

Apart from Cantona, Bergkamp was my favourite Premiership player ever.

There is a story that I have heard from a few people:

Rioch came in but the club knew that it would only be for a year as they had lined up Wenger to come in at the end of his contract with Grampus Eight. David Dein had sounded Wenger out about players that were available and whether any of them would fit into Wenger's plans when he arrived. Bergkamp was mentioned and Arsene urged Dein to go and get him. Dein and Wenger had been friends for a number years before he joined Arsenal.

A lot of people think it was Rioch that got him but I think the real truth is that Dein got him on Wenger's recommendation knowing they would be united at the club a year later.

I honestly believe that - Rioch was never going to be permenant he was a caretaker if I'm not mistaken?. So I don't think he had alot to do with the signing. But that is his legacy at Arsenal - he was the manager of Arsenal when Bergkamp was signed :)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

A friend of a friend works at the training ground as a groundsman and Henry never even bothered to acknowledge him when the passed. Bergkamp on the other hand said hello every morning, asked him about his wife and kids etc. Total gent. Total legend.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

When they are on your team - otherwise they wind me up! :)

Henry used to wind me up! Great, great player but he was so up himself it was a joke. I never hero worshipped that guy at matches like others used to because I really didn't think his attitude was quite right, he really could be detrimental to the rest of the team at times. They say Anelka was the incredible sulk but Henry ran him close!

Don't get me wrong, I loved him like every other Gooner and he gave us wonderful service but I sometimes felt he could have been more of a team player. Don't forget his misses in Paris were crucial in us not winning the European Cup. Not that I am blaming him or anything ;)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

but yeah if henry was not playing up to snuff, he would go out on the wings and sulk and literally let players run right past him on defense, that is the only problem i have ever had with his game....

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

Thought we were very lucky today.

Ramos has Tottenham playing like Sevilla, very quick, very fast and no space on wings. Our players seemed strangley jaded though Van Persie was understandable as he has just come back from injury.

Berbatov looks out of this world, Robbie Keane and Malbranque/O'Hara were also impressive. King seemed to shore up the defence until the great Theo scores a Lampard.

Should be a great game back at White Shit Lane in 2 weeks.

p.s. Was it me, or did Senderos and Djourou look completely shell shocked? I had no confidence in the defence tonight, and they looked shaky as hell as soon as the ball went back over to the Tottenham attack. They also made Cygan look quick.

Yes! I agree 100% I Always said Phil is stuck in Cygan shadow ...utterly useless

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

Hopefully Senderos will play like he did tonight in the Prem matches coming up! ;)

I still don't rate Walcott, apart from his lucky goal he didn't do anything and doesn't have the confidence of Adebayor, Eduardo, Bentdner or Van Persie. Can you guys see him sticking with Arsenal for the next few years? I can't.

Great game though, Arsenal were quite poor by their very high standards but it sets up a terrific finale for the second leg! :)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Back to the Top!!

Spuds should of rapaed us today we got lucky. And Gilberto .................... wtf ? He needs to go, he plays like a drunken hobo that has webbed feet and one leg. Imo, ever since the 'captain issue' he's lost his confidence and passion for the team and when a player looses passion for the team, he has to go out. I want him gone. Allthough Diarra looks like he's being a knob end and leaving aswell so if the both of them go, with a few injuries, we could be fucked. Arsene could simply sign someone but he has stated that he isn't going to. He's my dream transfer window for us -

In: Boruc/Jaskelinen/Ikasson/good keeper (), Diarra swap (Lyon), Pepe, another CM, Ashley Young.

Out: Lehamnn, Gilberto swap (Diarra of Lyon), Senderos, Djourou (loan).

Ofcourse, all that will never happen. :( I wouldn't expect that amount of transfer to be happening in the january windows but now and the summer window, I'd love these transfers to happen. And maybe Modric in aswell. And keep Diarra. Even if this doesn't happen though, I think we will need a new GK, CB and CM asap. A winger and a extra CM would be a bonus.

Yeah, one keeper out and one keeper in. I think Lehmann has finalised his deal with Borussia Dortmund. Therefore, a keeper-force of Almunia/Fabianski isn't strong enough, we need to bring in a quality keeper to fill the gap that Jens has left. And good to see a modest Utd fan on T'internet. I don't see that much these days. :(

Cheers Jordan :)

I'm a football lover at the end of the day - anyone who can't appreciate Arsenal's beautiful football isn't really a footy fan in my opinion. :)

thats just abit of class....

cant buy that!!

I know everyone hated Cantona but he would literally spend hours signing autographs, merchandise etc...

compared to keano who would threaten to kick feck out of you if you didnt leave him alone...

i mean can you really blame these guys for that, not talking to a groundsmna is a little shitty, but i can see why guys would want to be left alone. Some people are just not the sort who can deal with fame and popularity. They must get asked all the time, maybe keano was like an actor, always in character :)
