Arsenal Thread

Oh dear . . .

 Who the hell is that!?

I certainly did not under-rate PSV, but i did expect us to beat them.

Our problem this year has been scoring goals and keeping them out (especially at Emirates). So i expected PSV to score.

Over the two legs we created enough chances to have scored at least 4 goals in the tie, so its our own fault. How many times did we find ourselves in shooting positions but chose to pass in and around the six yard box and eventually lose the ball.

Hleb gives the ball away too much and that foul was unnecessary, but Lehman mucked up as usual. Almuni is far better at handling crosses than Lehman with minimal fuss.

Adebayor run his heart out but missed a sitter he should have buried. Baptista's first touch is not good enough.
AS for Henry, as soon as he came on the pitch he started going down injured. He bottled it and was lazy, how long did he lie on the floor for? If he was that badly injured he should not have come on.

Now all we got to play for is 3rd & 4th place (outrageous).
people keep saying keep saying the future looks bright, but like
Mourinho said after the Carling Cup
If he was given 3,4,5 yrs to build a team and win no trophies in the mean-time he'd be delighted.

And we're still not guaranteed to win trophies in 3 yrs. Liverpool are only gonna get stronger with its new owners, Manchester United are gonna get stronger becasue although their top they've still got loads of room for improvement and Chelsea are only gonna get stronger with or without Mourinho. So we'd clse the gap a lot & we'll be competing much more but will we be winning trophies?

Lets hope so. We need a (25 goal) striker since Henry is getting older and injury prone, midfielders who score goals and a keeper.

Why is anyone surprised?

Unfortunately thats football for you. It can change in an instant, its unpredictable.

Whose to say Liverpool wont end the season with a trophy after all the criticism Benitez has come under this year? yet Arsenal who looked to be steamrolling their way through competitions are empty handed. Thats why the title race is not over. it only needs a slip up either way, a mistake or a poor performance to upset the odds.

Maybe only one club out of the big four will take trophies this year who knows. Nothings ever nailed on ultimately. I think Arsenals downfall is having no major plan b when its all going wrong. they've played plan a for so long that when its not working they suffer, no matter how good the football is. I think you can say the same for Barca too. When the beautiful football approach isnt working they have nothing else to turn to, as in other teams, like United, Chelsea and Liverpool can mix it up if need be, if they need to be physical, play the long ball or any of the other traits i think Arsenal suffer from.

With the exception of Henry (who's never fit now), I think Franny Jeffers could come in and do a better job than your forward's.

Arsenal are like a georgeous woman with no vagina, great to look at, but can't do feck all in the end with it.

Did u ever stop to think PSV might be a reasonable team? Its evident why Arsenal lost, simply due to their arrogance..

Beauty has many forms, and seeying a small team like PSV staying pyhsically and mentally organized in Emirates vs Arsenal deserves at least some praise.

Just remember, its easy to play flair football -and god knows i love watching Arsenal- with the budget of an English top team.
But its also good to see a small team believing in their own strenght. Difference is what makes football interesting. For me this was a better match then both Barcelona - Liverpool.

And dont say this is "modern football" and everything is going to shit. Italy and Germany have been playing like this for ages. They represent the forces of destruction, but without those teams beauty wouldnt really shine either. These teams form the challenge for the creative minded, and Arsenal just have to grow as a team to meet that challenge. Its all about ying yang boys. And at this moment one side of that coin is simply better at what they do.

psv aint bad after all, they pushed milan all the way 2 seasons ago
and they also have kluivert playing ( or who cant even kick a ball for them without an injury).....

Iceman - dude, take it easy, dont get mad, evo web needs the ice humour probably if you smash the yids in a couple of weeks all will be well!

it was not only Alex, there were little cameos affelay, cocu, mendes.... psv did what any away team would do sit, hope and get that freekick ( ala porto vs united, a few seasons back?)

my view is arsene wenger needs to wake up, as much as i love the young talent policy, the cons outweigh the pros... his next 4/5 signing should be 25 and over....

PSV did fuck all for the two games but defend, one long shot, and one freekick from Hleb the idiot.

All right, I just want to say something about Arsene Wenger. He really sucks when he loses. PSV did a really good job, they make use of Arsenals weaknesses and neutralized Arsenals qualities. PSV didn't let the backs come forward, the attackers (Koné and Tardelli) where holding them back. The central defenders got space and they didn't know what to do with that because they always get a striker or two in front of them, so PSV did a fantastic job. And when Wenger says that PSV played too defensive, wtf.. first of all PSV just neutralized Arsenal with maybe not good play, but defensively you have to be strong against Arsenal and PSV was. Second, Holland and England are completely other worlds when you look at football. In England the quality is much better, better football, more money. Just have a look at Arsenals money and PSV's money. Look at Arsenals bench and PSV's bench. There's a huge difference between those things. Can you expect PSV to just rush forwards like real dogs, against Arsenal, the team that is very dangerous with every counter chance they get. No, you can't. PSV just did a fantastic job and Wenger should see the fucking difference between PSV and Arsenal, between the two competitions the teams are playing in and in the money. Nothing bad play, just smart play. Wenger must be a good loser and just accept that PSV did a fantastic job against Arsenal.

Same counts for you and all the other Arsenal fans who think PSV only defends. It is true, yes, but have a look at the quote.

I don`t blame psv we had 19 vs 3 shots on goal at the 1st half...we opened yous up but lack the finishing. If you think PSV is brilliant then fairplay let`s hope that master plan takes you to the final

The headline reads Wenger's young thoroughbreds will outrun United in the long term, but just how long is the long term ?

Its great that you have a lot of young players but what team hasnt ?. I dont think you lot won anything last season and you definatly cant this season. I think think Wenger should start looking at the present and not the future...

what team hasnt? quit frankly ALOT of teams dont. can u honestly tell me that manu kids can beat arsenal kids? or chelsea kids beating arsenal? i dont think so mate.

we probably have the best bunch of kids in europe. i know its no excuse for us being poor this season and that loads o fans keep saying to look to the future, but im not using this has an excuse , we are crap this season and we realy need a PLAN B mr wenger

Lets just take a look at what you like to call "the best bunch of kids in europe".
First of all, your keeper is 35 (Almunia). He alone brings up the average age by quite a bit. Other than Lehmann, the only other keeper you have is Poom (who you never use) and he's 29.
We on the other hand have Kuszczak who's 24, Heaton who's 20 and Ben Foster (on loan) who's 23. Kuszczak and Foster have shown how good they already are and have atleast another 10 years ahead of them. Cant say much about your goalkeeper situation.
Now looking at your young defence, the ones that are used the most were Hoyte who's 22, Toure who's 25, Senderos who's 22, Clichy who's 21 and Eboue who's 23.
We have O'Shea, Evra and Vidic who are all 25, along with Pique who's 20 and Bardsley who's 21. The age difference here is very small and our players also regularly play in the first time.
Up front and in midfield, you have players who are somewhere between 22 and 25 with a couple of 19 year olds. We on the other hand have 23 to 26 year olds with Rooney and Ronaldo at 21 and 22.

From the looks of it, your young players are only about 2 years behind our team. If you statement is true, your "kids" should be better than most of our first team in a couple of years time. I guess it still remains to be seen but other than Fabregas, I dont see any young player who's in the same league as Rooney and Ronaldo.

Fair play our first team is a couple of years behind yours but what about our other bunch of kids like our otehr left back troa (dunno his spelling) djourou, denilson, walcott? help me out arsenal fans but we have other players who are not even 20 playing good football already, these are the players i am talking about, not the regular first teams has such but our players who took part in the carling cup.

can u say that your reserves can beat arsenal reserves?

You've had players like this before though and they don't always make it. Owusu looked like he was going to be fantastic but where is he now?

owusu diddnt look that fantastic though. players like denilson, trohae an djourou are players who will eventualy become world class players.

like i said, we have one of the best bunch of young players in europe but we need a PLAN B. once we have a PLAN B that is totaly different to our normal play, we will have that edge of winning things again. i honestly believe that we are nearly their has a team competing in the highest level, its just our finishing is letting us down. Once we learn how to bury our chances i believe we can beat Most teams easily. Think about it, if jus half our chances went in againts blackburn and pSV we would of easily score 2-3 goals and be looking forward to hosting MAN city today.

no complaints againts chelsea though, it was a cracking good game and we just need to get rid of SENDEROS. he is the reason why where out of the fa cup and loosing the carling cup.

wenger needs to be a bit ruthless, if a player is playing bad, drop him, even if its henry, fabregas, whoever, drop him, no1 should be treated special in a club

Very funny...have your fun kick the horse while it `s down lol. You have no champagne at the Emirates or Old Trafford when we play. So enjoy your cup of tea

When I saw Owusu in the Carling Cup, I though he was like a strong Ronaldo. He did look awaesome. You had other players like Bently too that looked really good. Point is, they are not guaranteed to become good players. We had our share over the years that looked great but never made it.
