Arsenal Thread

yea that was a solid display by us, even though we diddnt play well we still entertained by the looks of it in comparison to chelsea's win last night which i heard that they only had one real chance in goal for 75min of the game

Our youth team won 1-0 last night against Man Utd in the 1st leg of the FA Youth Cup semi final. Unbelievably they were watched by a crowd of over 38,000!! Which incidently was 4,500 more than the 33,700 watched Spurs play at home in the UEFA Cup

It was a good win last night, though we looked so suspect at the back - fair play, it was again a defence just put together, but Gilberto looks well out of place as a CB! :)

I was a work when the game kicked off, and on Soccernet it stated "Diaby scores a good goal, bottom right from centre of penalty box"....

Lampard would have been proud

Djourou is becoming a fav of mine, as he is quick and looks assured. I don't know why Wenger didn't play the following:

----------Lemon------------
Hoyte---Djourou---Gallas---Flamini
-----------Gilbert---------------
Denilson----------------Diaby----
----------Cesc------------------
------Bap-----------------------
-----------------Ali------------

Did you notice Lehmann's kicking was very suspect yesterday. Was he carrying a strain? Denilson looks great. Mini-Cesc if you like! :)

Well done Goons, nice to the filth drop to fourth place! As of next season it looks like it will only be the top 3 who go into the Champs league - that will be very interesting!

That's quite important though. They scored their one chance. You still need quite a few chances to score.

but that was from a penalty. i agree chelsea can finish better than arsenal, if arsenal could finish like chelsea, we would be fighting for the title. the amount of chances we have missed is embaressing

You need goals from everywhere. Look at United since Ruud left. Everyone except Van der Sar has scored I think. You were best when you had Ljungberg, Bergkamp, Pires and even Parlour scoring but now you rely too much on your forwards maybe.

spot on! what can you do when the strikers can`t hit the side of a barn....AW has given opportunities to a few gunners to show the club what there made of . If Henry is the problem with his intimidation tactics then , AW has some tuning up sort of speak(a fruit-tree should produce more fruit-trees, not one-tree)

SAF has brought an example...which may be Mourinho down fall or at least raises eye-brows w/ Roman A.

Very valid point here. On an average season we could normally rely on the following figures (very average):

Henry 19
Pires 16
Ljungberg 14
Bergkamp 9
Vieira 8

Now, the only one who gets to double figures is Henry.

So, the question is, how do we get there again? Rosicky looks capable, but has been injury prone this season. Hleb, fantastic dribbler, but doesn't see the pass, or the crowd shouting 'shoot'. Fabregas brilliant engine, and our heart, but doesn't look like he's gonna get that many goals. Van Persie was prolific before breaking that damn metatarsal! Bap is still finding his feet (and first touch!), and Aliadiere has had 8 seasons to impress. Adebayor - love the industry - but not a finisher - yet (should have put that goal away in the PSV game!)

Is Ribery the answer? Eto'o? Bendtner?

Who are these special special players that Wenger is reportedly looking at next season? He reckons one of two will add to the squad we already have and push for the title next season.

Whatever is around the corner, i hope next season is the one where Wenger pulls out the trumps from that Magic Hat.

Yea he realy needs to buy a player who is capable of scoring double figures. You did point out about persie, i like to say that i beleive he is a player that will score double figures its a shame he got injured.

Does anyone know when he will be back? i think that if we sort out our finishing we will be up their with chelski and manu

Gary Neville hasn't either mate.

well well well. Hope Wenger realises we need some hefty changes to progress. We had enough chances today, but the final ball, and shot on goal is not there.

Not really suprised. You could feel the goal coming.

The sooner this season finishes, the better.

Definitely one to forget.

ahmen to that! none of our players can finish, if i were wenger i would probably focus on the teams finishing for the whole week

We are crap yesterday. No point going into our faults, we all know what they are but I have a few questions\points that I would love Wenger to answer.

1. Why play Gilberto centre back? This takes him away from his most effective position. We do have other centre backs.
2. Hoyte at left back, why?? Play Gallas there, I don't care if he don't like it, he is paid handsomely to play wherever he is told.
3. Toure right back, why? He is more effect at centre-back.
4. Aliadiere\Baptista are shite.
5. Why does Hleb give the ball away so much?
6. Why can't we finish?

We need MAJOR surgery to the team. How long will it be before some fans start blaming Wenger? He played 3 players at the back out of position, why?

Rant over.

Oh dear, I hope Arsenal can pick their game up for the Chelsea meeting.

Come on Goons, you know you love doing favours for your friends at Old Trafford!

Yup, he's turned this team from championship contenders to also rans. Spend some money you tight git!

This basically summarises our plight. Read this on Football365

What a surprise. Another woefully inept attacking performance from Arsenal. The 'deadly duo' fail to score in another game. Blah blah. Is it really a surprise that Arsenal are so s**t when their whole attacking gameplan is based on the Chuckle Brothers' 'To me, to you' philosophy? They ponce around with the ball aimlessly, going nowhere and with no end product.

This is the worst side under Wenger and he knows it. The constant talking up of the kids is an attempt to cover up the fact that the first team is a steaming pile of poo. The difference between the kids and the first XI may be small but that is not due to the talented kids. It is due to the untalented first team.

I would actually blame the slide on Wenger failing to replace Pires. Pires was unique and the only person capable of challenging Giggs for the moniker of 'best left midfielder in the Prem' and even that challenge only lasted for three four years (2001-2, 2002-3, 2003-4, 2004-5) says how good Giggs is really). He was the only midfielder that scored any goals and we miss it (Ljungberg only scored a noteworthy amount in the 2001-2 season).

A current look at our midfiled 'threat' is sorry reading (Prem goals)...

Gilberto - 8 goals (4 pens)
Flamini - 3
Hleb - 2
Rosicky - 1
Diaby - 1
Ljungberg - 0
Walcott - 0
Fabregas - 0
Denilson - 0
Song - 0

How can Flamini score as many league goals as Hleb, Rosicky, Ljungberg and Fabregas put together? That is why we are s**t and why we will continue to be so until an adequate replacement for Pires is acquired.

1) Play a CB at CB
2) Gilberto in the middle
3) Aliadiere and Baptista can f*ck off.
4) Teach Hleb how to pass

I said back in the summer that you'd miss Pires. He was a class act and scored many goals. One of my fave players in Prem history. As for Craptista, again, I've said it a hundred times, why do you think Real Madrid was so keen on offloading the fat lazy bastard!

Reyes can take a running jump - He doesn't want to be any where near us. I hope we sell him as soon as possible.

We definately need to get rid of Baptista - Unless he plays fantastically until the end of the season - but I don't see that happening!!

Wenger team selection is suspect at the moment - I dont know whats happening.

How quickly things change in football - On a high after beating Liverpool in both cups - now so many doubts about this team its unbelievable!

Hopefully we keep 3rd place - but this season is very dissapointing and if nothing special happens next year - there can be no excuses!!

On a plus side though I went to the u18s game the other night over 38 thousand!! what a turn out. Wasn't the greatest game but it was a fun atmosphere - not bad for 3 pounds!! the goal was a cracker aswell.
