Well chaps, the magic continues. What a performance, poor Charlton were just blasted away. Perhaps Thierry read my post above as he looked more relaxed during the game and worked well with Jose, no sulks on Saturday. What goals though in the second half!! The back heeled goal by Thierry will live long in the memory, just who is gonna stop us?

THE PRESSURE REALLY is on Arsenal to win the Champions League this year. I was in London with my Gooner mates on the weekend, and they really want the trophy. We first won the title in the 92-93 season, it took us a few seasons to win the Champions League, as you all know. Well, the Gooners are on the same time-span now since winning their first Premiership title, and HAVE to prove themselves season, otherwise they will get the same critics they get EVERY year. My gooner mates dont reckon Arsenal cut it in Europe, after 2 poor openers (Arsenal are capable of hammering PSV and Rosenborg, lets be honest) so the heat is on at Highbury - they HAVE to prove their pundits wrong in Europe this season, and they HAVE to make the semi-finals at least . . . .

Well its shows how much our standards have risen to be disappointed with a win and an away draw in the champions league after two games. I dont think its fair to judge really after two games, i'm not saying we've done well or anything but we'll have to see in the later stages if things have changed this season or not.

Yeah.. well them and Chelsea are the only Premier League teams who have squads good enough to challenge at the very top level of European Football - that was evident last season - even then its hard to see them beating a team like Barca, Juve or Valencia etc.

I think they'll come thru their group and probably win it... then if they get a decent draw theyve got a chance of making decent progress.

I think you are more than capable of winning the Champions League - but, you must prove yourself this season, to be classed as one of Europe`s elite. My concern (if I was a Gooner) would be injuries/suspensions - if Henry, Pires, Toure or Vieria are out, what then? I dont think Frabregas and co. could handle all of the Premiership/Cup/Champions League fixtures - I don`t see enough depth in the Arsenal squad.

Yeah hopefully we'll make some reinforcements in January, but I cant see it happening. We do need a bigger squad to juggle all 3 major competitions at once, if we dont make it bigger, we'll have to pray that key players dont get injured.

Watched the replay of the game last night. Superb. Forget scoring 4 goals, forget the cheek of Henry's backheel, the best moment in the match was when Van Persie screamed that huge 'Fuck Off!' in Kiely's face. I was roaring with laughter after that. I felt sorry for Kiely though as he seems a genuine nice bloke, and not to mention class act in goal. Godd stuff though, really.

After watching Cesc and Clichy play, I have to say, we're privileged to have two of the best young talents around. They are so composed, intelligent and posess the mentalities of players much, much older. Pennant looks sharp too.

I think we only really need to buy a defender in January to round off our squad. Midfield's packed. Van Persie's decided position is central forward now, so I don't really see the need in wasting money on a striker.

Arsenal are announcing the name of our new stadium this morning with major sponsorship backing and rumour has it that Ashburton Grove is to be called "The Emirates Stadium". We will have to wait and see but I for one feel its a sad day. Obviously selling the naming rights to the stadium is very lucrative to the club and thats welcome but I would have liked a reference to Arsenal in the title just to give it our own identity.

I was talking to mates in the pub before the game on Saturday, and they were all saying that they are gonna call it Highbury or Arsenal Stadium regardless of what the official name is. Look at Southampton, they did it right. The Friends Provident St Marys Stadium is just called St Marys by the fans so my suggestion if Emirates has to be in the title would be: The Emirates Arsenal Arena. We can then just call it the Arsenal Arena.

i've been dredding this day for a while now, but i was expectung something like the nike stadium or the o2 stadium. the emirates stadium? whats up with that?

Its true

The Emirates Stadium

Apparently is worth over £100m, this means they have paid this amount to have the stadium naming rights for 15 years plus the shirt sponsor is also changing to Fly Emirates from 2006\07 for 8 years.

yeah the 'The Emirates Ashburton Grove park', that way the sponsers name is in and fans could have called it Ashburton or something.

We shouldnt really fuss too much though its a lot of money they have put in, and this will surley help Arsenal FC specially as the stadium is so costly, this surley gives AW some money to sepnd over the coming seasons.

Having saind all this I can remember when the O2 shirts first came and I thought the O2 looked ugly as hell, too ka while to get used to it.

BTW have u guys seen the competion at Arsenal.com about designing the special highbury shirt and if your design is nearlythe same as the one they have picked you get a trip to highbury

"the emirates stadium" sounds crap. and having them as our shirt sponsers is just as bad. i don't mean to be offensive, but emirates is an arab company, and arsenal should have a western company spondering their stadium. the nike stadium would have been a lot better, seeing as it has something to do with sports. nike should have put in a high bid, cheap asses. now i have to wait 15 years until the stupid emirates name gets removed. they will refer to it as "ashburton grove" right? i mean, arsenals current ground is called "the arsenal stadium" but everyone knows it as highbury. i hope this is true for the new stadium too.

er, O2 have got nothing to do with football, and Nike are an American company. What does it matter what a company does or where they are based? They've just put £100 million into Arsenal Football Club for fucks sake!

I wouldn't care if the new Liverpool stadium was called The Tampax Anfield Road Stadium as long as we got to spend £100 million on new players!

you dont mean to be offensive, yeah right.....

I suppose Everton are somehow lesser a team too for having a Asian sponser??

Anyways Im not super happy with the name it dont sound great or anything and then theirs the fact in 15 years it will change name again, but hell anything is better than having a dying breed like Dreamcast across the shirt ! :)

did i say it should be called the o2 stadium? nopey wopey. though there is an o2 centre in london, and that doesn't sound too bad. the emirate stadium just sounds wrong. it doesn't matter that nike are a us based sprots company, the fact it is a sports company is enough. when you hear something like "the nike stadium" you know that a sport is participated within the stadium. when you hear "the emirates stadium" it sounds like some airport terminal. sometimes its not all about money.

Do you know how much money the Premiership gets from the middle east? There's a reason that Manchester United and Aston Villa did their training in the Emirates last Janurary. Football is incredibly popular in the mid-east, and alooooooooooooooot of money is made from just the satallite subscribtions. Not to mention the other shit the gets sold. I can garuntee you that more than a few clubs will be in Dubai next January.
Fun fact: Gary Neville owns a summer home in Dubai.

not really, the middle east doesn't enrich the world much. the premiership gets a lot more money from the far east. which is why clubs like man united will go touring the far east come next summer. dubai is only popular amongst westerners because they sell gold watches dead cheaply. the football world generally tends to try and stay out of the middle eastern regions, because its full of conflict and, without meaning to cause offense, there is a much higher chance of them getting bombed in those regions of the world.

i'll still call it highbrury. but i was trying to think of what could have sounded better than emirates and "the jvc stadium" had a nice ring to it. definately the best sponser we ever had.

sorry if this is a bit off topic
nike evolution sorry to break this to you but Dubai, UAE has never had any violence or conflict anywere near it, trust me ive lived there for 18 yrs nothing like bombing or any thing of that sort has ever happened and um no offense to you :P but in the uk there have been more bombings and gang wars, kidnappings, murders and at every football game you have 1,000 police++ police so....
