Anth's FC24 Gameplay Mod

The defenders not being too reactive to runs is something that I’ve implemented very deliberately. They still will drop when they need to, but based on their position I have adjusted so that the defensive line will hold more appropriately. This was a pretty tricky area to tune, so I can look at refining if needed, but I feel it’s holding up really well for me so far.

By default, the lines were far too reactive to runs and it forces the whole line back and makes gaps and the overall gameplay much more end to end.

With the right ball you can play through the lines, but you have to pick your pass. Defensive coverage and awareness is much better too, so they won’t switch off etc.
I understang ...

Its not easy thing to do (not even in real life) ... its all about balance, when to hold the line, and when to track attacker.

I was really hoped that somebody removes that glued ball feeling not only during dribbling but also when players receiving and stopping the ball. And you just did it. It really feels like amount of sliding and skating reduced. Thanks for that.

But here is negative part.
It seem like your regular gameplay file is the fastest one, right? I'm using it and it is totally satisfying when playing for a top teams like Real Madrid, MC, Chelsea etc. The pace, passing, everything feels good and balanced, But playing with middle rated teams or lower division teams with average ratings lower than ~73 the game becomes slowmo for me. I'm the one who playing manager career in lower divisions trying to promote some teams. And it is super slow, basically unplayable. It seems like you overincreased the difference between fast and slow players.
Later today I will try to increase speed related sliders, may be this will help.

Other things I noticed, but not so critical....
Lofted through balls seems a bit too slow and too high to me. However regular lobbed passes seems totally fine.
Strange and funny thing - clearance with shot button looks more like a trial to score the goal. It fells too powerful. Ball from my penalty box flying till opponents goalie.

But nevertheless looking forward to the future versions.

Not seen either problem myself which you have explained playing as anth settings say also using the same one as yourself doing a leeds save and enjoying every minute off it

I can’t say I agree about the movement though. I play with lower rated teams as well and it still feels very fluid for me, but with a noticeable difference in particular stats based on the player. I just fired up a game now to triple check and it feels fine?

I’ll take another look at the passing etc for next version and see how it’s holding up. The clearance button I know what’s causing it, so just have to see if it’s something I can fix without breaking the important thing that it’s there for.

Hey Barry. I only use eSIM and my mod haha. I probably need some more as I’ve been so locked in on the gameplay work that I haven’t added anything else!

I only have one suggestion (one which I've also felt in your FIFA 23 mods).. The walking speed with the ball (without sprinting) is a bit too slow in my opinion.. I think walking with the ball is actually really important, as the players dribbling etc. is more reactive that way, and I think it could use a good deal of more speed.. That would be my only suggestion at the time! Thanks a lot for your hard work and looking forward to more of it! :TU:

I was on the same topic, the exact same!

While playing more games I was thinking, sure, walking speed could and should be faster (jogging stance even is faster) but it serves the greater good here…
🤷‍♂️ At least that’s how I handle this, mentally. 😂
 
Anth s for me your mod is incredible. I play at fast speed 144fps.
The speeds are perfect.
Walking speed is excellent.
The ball no longer sticks to the foot and gives fantastic gameplay freedom.
The AI plays intelligently.
Player stats make sense.

Two suggestions:
1) Personally I would just like the goalkeepers to try more to get out of their goal. Sometimes they lose interest in the ball 2m away from them when it is next to their corner posts.
2) The low centers had to be strong in front of the goal as in reality.

When the walking is faster it doesn’t just impact the walking though, it impacts the ‘base’ of all movement. Everything is so much more erratic when it’s faster. Turning around the players move like crazy 3x speed when it’s much quicker (off ball). There are so many knock on impacts of areas you wouldn’t always expect when it comes to particular values.

I personally think the walking speed is so much better the way it is. I find it grounds the game and the movement and I feel it makes it more realistic.

It’s a simple change though, I can send you a version where it’s faster, but it will speed up the whole game.

I have a tiny piece of feedback but it may be something you're already aware of.

The clearances, they're overpowered and they literally travel up the entire field and into the other penalty box. Any chance of tweaking this?

Hey man, yeah agree with the clearances. I know what’s causing it, I just have to see if it’s something I can isolate and tweak.
 
Not sure how to feel about V14. Even though most of the changes are great, I feel the CPU is too aggressive when defending. I would think this is a good thing but I just can't beat defenders as they catch me or anticipate all my moves. This coupled with the ball being harder to control (also a good thing in and of itself) makes it really hard for me. I don't want to lower the difficulty from wold class but seems as I have no choice.
Anybody else feel this?

Yeah it’s definitely a challenge! It is achievable to beat defenders, out run them now etc - but definitely not easy :) Drop to professional if you’re struggling. It still plays a really good game and it’s that bit easier for sure. There’s generally more scope to move up and down difficulty levels on v14 without sacrificing.

I personally play on professional as I feel it's the best balanced difficulty. I've always held the opinion that WC is a crap difficulty because it nerfs you and cheats in so many ways and it's just not realistic.

Your players are less responsive, the player switching is intentionally worse on WC than it is on Professional and the pressing is over the top on WC. The defending team just mindlessly chase wherever you on the pitch, even when you're passing it around in defence, they're like homing missiles.

Think I've figured this out! Should be sorted for next version hopefully. Just have to do some tests with it.
 
I personally play on professional as I feel it's the best balanced difficulty. I've always held the opinion that WC is a crap difficulty because it nerfs you and cheats in so many ways and it's just not realistic.

We had that topic before, afair… but I settled with WC this and last year… and never looked back. Hm… 🤔

edit: I was playing 16 vanilla on professional.

100% agree with this.

The one issue I have with World Class and above, almost without exception, is the pressing of the CPU in contrast with the user's pressing. It seems to me that it's way too intense (not giving enough space), while the user's team leaves a lot of gaping spaces, and the result is feeling a bit asphyxiated throughout the match (this is not an observation on Anth's gameplay mod, but on the gameplay in general). It might only be my impression, but IMO slider tinkering is necessary to fix this issue to give the user a marking advantage, actually level the playing field.

Then again, I don't want to de-rail Anth's gameplay mod thread, as this is somewhat off-topic but an observation I wanted to make given the above discussion. I might stay with default sliders and give professional a shot, the marking seems more fair in Prof..

I don't notice this issue on Legendary. You can also get a breather by holding/shielding the ball too.
 
Thanks! Hmmm I'm not sure about what you mean regarding the slow response, that hasn't been changed. Stick with it and see how you go. It's supposed to be a challenging mod.

Great that you're seeing new things though! This is just a general comment and not directed at you, but there are some core things that have changed from the default FC24 game in terms of patterns etc. I will keep refining things as needed, but the truth is that it's necessary to do this in order to create some true differences and more unpredictable elements of play. If we stick to particular default ways, sure I can do it, but we're never going to break out of some of the stubborn patterns that exist. Some of those patterns are there due to rigid and predictable touches, positioning, distances etc. Just something to keep in mind.
So a few weeks on, after playing more on both V13 and V14, a little update on this topic. It might be my imagination, but depending on which day it is the gameplay feels a bit different. Some days (like today), players are feeling very sluggish to control, move more slowly and respond late to some inputs (especially tackling which can sometimes take what feels like a second before anything happens, after which the tackling opportunity is not longer there). That "version" of the mod is by far the most difficult one, where moving (both on and off the ball). It feels like, no matter who I am controlling, even if I am playing as Bolton at the moment (players in the 70-75 OVR range), they are not fit to play professionally. It is like every move I make with a player is a struggle for them, sometimes kind of stumbling along even if at slow speed and under no pressure.

Other days (like the days since installing V14 up until today) it feels a lot smoother. I could still feel that the mod is there, but it just feels a little snappier when controlling the players. When this behaviour ("version") kicks in I feel like I can control the players much better, and players that have stats indicating good movement and dribbling actually feel that way. They still sometimes take bad touches, loosing the ball in the process, and some thought still needs to god into who has the ball and what they can do, but they are still able to move in open space without that stumbling happening all the time. When the game behaves like this it is also a lot easier to play, but not to the extent that it is easy by any means.

I should add that the different behaviour is with the exact same mods installed (your gameplay + eSIM + an adaption of @Paul-v career mod that I made for myself).

Have you had any of this happen yourself @Anth James? As I said going into this post it may also be my imagination or maybe I just play a lot better some days that others. And it is not supposed to be any kind of critique of your mod, as it is absolutely essential for my enjoyment of this game :WORSHIP: Also, sorry about the wall of text. I often have a hard time keeping things short :ANX:

I play game on PC, but visually it simply does not look good enough compared to PS5 version (videos on youtube).

Maybe its just my eyes or brain, but even with everything on ultra ... player models and animations doesnt look good like some youtube videos.

Everything is on ultra etc .. 4k res.

Are PS5 and PC versions same, or its just little contrast/brightness difference.

I feel like the movement feels pretty stable for me, outside of a few random times where it goes crazy up or down. That’s usually only once in a while though and it always settles pretty quickly. EA and its quirks.

V14 especially feels like the most fluid of all of my versions, so if that feels too slow you can try upping speed or acceleration for a couple of points and see if it helps?

I just don’t really have the same experience where the players feel sluggish and like they can’t play professionally. It’s always something that’s going to be pretty highly subjective and down to an individual . Even with 3 speed versions of my mod I get such a range of feedback regarding movement. I’d say most really like it, and I get people saying it’s perfect, but I still get some saying it’s too slow and some saying it’s too fast. I could do an even faster version, but not sure where it ends haha.

EDIT: Actually, if it’s v13 this is happening on, then that could be because TU7 did seem to slow things down somewhat and I recalibrated for v14. I had a sluggish feel at times on v13 when I updated to TU7. V14 I haven’t had that feeling once though..

Appreciate the reply. Up until today I have not seen it on V14 either, but I definitely saw it towards the end of V13 with the TU7 update. No worries though, I am hoping for it to settle here as well. Just wanted to confirm there were no tricks I had missed to avoid it happening. I have tried installing the mod a few times, cleaning the mod folder and temp folder for FC24 in the process. Always playing with EA app in offline mode. So at least the install should be OK :))
