Partly because ping-pong assisted passing usually makes it so easy to move the ball up the field while keeping possession, I guess.
On a similar note, I was wondering the other day... why do most gamers opt to take short goal kicks so often rather than launching it long like the vast majority of real goal kicks? We all do it, probably without realising that it's not what you'd normally see on a Saturday.
I was at a sport conference once and they showed possession statistics for short/long goal kick in different time range (let's say 5 sec, 10 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec etc).
no surprise short goal kick have a great advantage in ball possession.
Having said that, i usually go long range in footie game to avoid the boredom of short kicks and to open up the game as much as possible
