2010 FIFA World Cup

I have to admit, this game is loads of fun online and much improved and playable with no lag and great response times. I am addicted. I have 4 wins 2 losses and 1 tie. I am loving this puppy. Tis on Xbox360.

Keep it up EA..

;-)

Won the World Cup last night and have to agree with Dags from a few pages back - it really does give you a feel for the emotion lifting the trophy.

Had a classic final v Germany (as England) - 1 nil up via a rasping Heskey shot from a Gerrard through ball, Joe Hart was sent off trying to collect the ball from the oppositions feet; penalty scored 1-1.

I had no keeper on the bench! So ended up putting Wes Brown in and sacrificing my left winger.

The game ebbed and flowed and I eventually won 4-2 (sound familiar?) after Germany had brought it back to 3-2 when their keeper caused mayhem at a last minute corner but Heskey hit a speculative shot having blocked a clearance and it went it of the inside of the post to guarantee the win.

Bloody marvellous.

I'm going to try a lower-rated team next (on full qualification again) before moving to the big boys.

Altitude effect is included?

Crickey, there are many, many things I would have thought need to be implemented before altitude, no matter that some S African stadia are high.

How about something as simple and ubiquitous as wind, or muddy pitches.
But Altitude effect is such an easy thing to implement, because it has no art overhead. Just make fatigue drop at a higher rate in certain games/stadiums. It's also a fancy bullet-point to put on the back of the box, worth more as a sales pitch than an actual gameplay feature.

Gave up on my Oz qualifying campaign. Won my group (of 4) and it was still 2008, so I guess I had 2 years of friendlies to trudge through?

Didnt fancy the thought of that, so started afresh with no friendlies as Sweden.

Absolutely love it! Lost opening game 5-0 to Norway in Oslo which was mental - for the first time in a FIFA game (that I personally recall), I could actually see people having stinkers and it was great to have to tinker with the tactics during the game to try and salvage something.

Second game home to Liechtenstein and decided to dump 5 of my Oslo flops and build the side around Zlatan in a 4-5-1 formation. Much better, won 4-1 - Zlatan with 2, included a 'Klinsmann-esque' flick and volley on the spin.

The speed which the ball travels now is much better (a goal for Norway would never have been scored on F10 - played up to the front man on the edge of the box, he controlled and knocked it short to Nevland who just absolutely leathered it first time - it FLEW in about a foot off the ground in the corner. Couldnt believe it, keeper had no chance).

My only little niggle is it seems the crossing is too easy now. If you hold down RB (on my controls - 'player run/swap button'), to curl the crosses, you can practically guarantee a goal if someone gets a head on it.

Not a massive problem as its not always easy to make space, but it feels a little like an exploit goal when it goes in.

Aside from that, they need to build FIFA 11 around this game and improve the AI positioning and I'd be a happy chap.

Excellent write up PB; I makes Me want to go home and play it straight away!

You're right about the increase in the tactical element - I feel the game changes more now.

Imagine this engine tweaked further with club teams?!

are you using manual crossing? I find it hard to cross where I want, especially under pressure. But I'm not very good anyway :)) but when I have made some space I have put in some dangerous balls.

Need to play alot more of this to get used to it though, but I am liking it at the moment.

Form seems to make a massive difference now, I was romping my Brazilian campaign and I had 14 players on green form, then the rot started to set in ending with 5 defeats in the last 7 matches, made it to the world cup still with everyone in bad form and my world cup group match results were:

England 5 Brazil 1
Brazil 2 Venezuela 1
Japan 1 Brazil 1

Came 2nd with 4 points and now face Holland so expect to get knocked out.

I'm using Semi, but I think I might try manual (due to the above issue of crossing really all coming in at dangerous heights and curl, pretty much undefendable most of the time).

Seems various buttons affect the crossing - on my controls;

RB - 'Trigger player runs' - if I cross holding this, then I get great curl
RT - 'Loft pass' - cross is more manual and doesnt curl.

Ta! Imagine how I feel, I have my own business and FIFAWC is just down the hall :(

Semi is well dumbed downed in this compared to 10! WTF'in hell would EA do that? I notice no difference between it and assisted tbh. Can't find any f'kers to play online on manual though. OK that's a lie. I few friends but I wish more randoms would do it!!! PS3 btw.

I also read somebody mentioned they couldn't see the rain when playing? I did playing online v England at Wembley. The mighty Welsh whooped them 2 to zip :) Must depend on stadium as I'm sure it was raining during the intro in another stadium but not during the game.

Yea, thought as much - gonna switch to manual then as it will be far more rewarding to score from a cross.

Yeah I noticed you can't see rain when playing just on cutscenes, as it is in real life, was either home to Croatia or away to Croatia IIRC.

That was me, and ure correct, in some stadiums u can still see it... weird enough u cant in others.

Also another annoying bug is on OVERCAST games, on cutscnes and evan on closed up replays all players/managers will have black hair...seems the game doesnt load the texture, so i had Trapatonni and Duff on black tops yesterday :LMAO:
That on PS3 btw, not sure if its also on all stadiums.

I scored a couple last night with Fat Frank and Stevie G where the keepers got a hand on their shots but couldn't keep them out - sweeeet.

I don't get one thing.
Is there a way to play a classified match in the online rooms?
It seems that the only way to play a classified match is to play a Quick Match... :/

And, where is 2 VS 2?

I find it both good and strange that Simon Humber admits the defenders are really bad and they are annoying him a lot. Good for FIFA 11, but strange that they haven't bother fixing it since it is not a new issue.

I think the defenders are something EA have confirmed they are fixing for 11. I seem to remember reading it a couple of weeks or so ago. Not sure why it wasn't touched for the WC game though; I'd imagine the WC gameplay team were more about tweaking the FIFA 10 engine than any overhauls.

Will be interesting to see if the next FIFA gets the same free ride Konami are getting if EA announce they are fixing everything people complain about. They've already listed the defence and pingpong passing as two issues they are going to sort out.

I'd imagine something as defensive AI is something they've been working on for a while, and that it's something they've reworked rather than tweaked, which would make it wasted time trying to polish what then have now. Not that strange IMO.

Just played against Portugal and they subbed off their LW and brought on their slow 6ft 4" ST at LW, which brought his overall down to 69, despite the fact the guy playing at ST was short but pacey so the intelligent thing would have been to then switch them round so the 6ft 4" ST was playing in the position that suited his abilities, real basic stuff that still isn't fixed :(

So, gave up on the ps3 version ? :P

Sorry but had to. Gameplay for some strange reason is different. Players feel "Floaty". They don't have any weight or tightness in controlling as do the Xbox360 version. For me it was like night and day when I began playing it for the 360. Go figure....maybe it's just me..
