2010 FIFA World Cup

The whole AI needs ripped out and re-codding from scratch. Player runs, positioning and general knowledge of where to be on a football pitch is shocking.

This is the problem with FIFA. I think people are blinded by the "perfect" animations, I know I was. Strip them away and you have the old FIFA more or less.

notice the Battle of the nations online leaders 1. Mexico 2. Honduras 3. USA.. I think it will change by Friday there lots of mexico being used bet more using Mexico in US then Mexico lol

Exactly. It's style over substance. EA need to work hard on introducing a football soul to FIFA. There, I said it - soul.

It's definitely the best FIFA yet though (whether that counts for much is up to you guys). For me it's a decent package as a whole. The gameplay is just a tweaked FIFA 10 with a lot better presentation. Not bad for £25 really, at the worst it'll keep you entertained till the real thing.

And why i don't play FIFA at the moment. I played a lot in 09 but after that FIFA 10 and WC 2010 for me is the same games. Animations, animations and animations-ok are fantanstic but........ "Strip them away and you have the old FIFA more or less". Agree in 100%.

My thoughts exactly.

Tried the game and in love with it.

A question for you that are buying it: are you quittin play Fifa 10 now that you have World Cup? I mean, do you think that, like in Winning Eleven tradition, the new one will make the previous chapter just a memory?

Yes, for me, the demo made Fifa 10 redundant, so I've already traded that for a pre order of WC.

I'm shocked at how much attention they've paid to the presentation in the game. It's not 100% perfect, but it's the subtle things that gives it authenticity and a real sense of World Cup fever. Even the qualifiers are authentic. Playing as England in the qualifiers I can choose to follow the realistic path or my own path. I chose the realistic patch and it's brilliant replaying all those qualifying fixtures from all those months ago. You play in the older kits, at Wembley, at night with realistic rainy weather. Then the next fixture was in the daytime away from home. As you progress you get to play in the new kit (as IRL).

I can't stress how much I love the sound in the game. They've nailed the sound effects whether it be the crowd reactions to the play on the pitch to the drumming when playing as or against Brazil, to the sound of the ball hitting the post, net or even adboard. I'm so glad they've improved the cutscenes aswell. It all seems to blend now and it appears there are a lot more in-game rendered reactions.

Agreed. They've got the atmosphere and sound spot on. It all works really well and the presentation is fantastic.

I went straight for the WC itself and won it with England. The cutscene when you win it brought a smile to my face and had me wondering what it'd be like if we did win it, what my reaction would be, whether the players would act like in the cutscene etc.

Good stuff :)

Was thinking about presentation and replays/celebrations the other day and how they could fix it. I came up with a very simple solution to make it all more lifelike: Just shoot all the cutscenes as if they have been filmed in real life.
So none of the "low cam near the waist looking up at the players" nonsense, no goal replays that "you are a midget standing on the pitch looking up Gerrard's arse while he takes a freekick" crap. None of the weird half high sweeps or running alongside the player stuff. Only make replays and celebrations from a real perspective.

I find it amazing that they haven't done this. Surely it's an essential element to recreate the atmosphere.

Presentation through cutscenes, sound and general atmosphere is miles better than PES, than any football game. It just recreates it so well.

PES is still leaps ahead with regards to showing replays at the right times, the right camera angles and celebrations though.

Replays are baffling on FIFA, I scored a goal yday on the WC game and had one other shot, the half time replays ignored the goal and the shot and showed only a cross from the CPU that my keeper caught under no pressure

What about gameplay wise now that you've had two nights with it?

I didn't play a game of it yesterday so I've only had the one night. Although in that night I played a friendly and finished a World Cup.

It's better than FIFA 10 with regards to gameplay. But I'd still rather play PES if I had to choose between the two.

++++

also wondering why they never, NEVER include both anthems in full length as a intro cutscene. even if it was just optional like in pes. :TTTH:

Where did you get it from for £25 Matt? Trade-in bringing down the value or are Morrisons selling early??

You keeping FIFA 10 for clubs?

That's my main issue as to why I wont buy this, it's bound to be tighter than 10 and after a few games 10's issues will seem far bigger but how many times can you play the WC over and over and over...

Depends which stage Dags "finished" the World Cup :)

He referred to winning it earlier mate.

To me the lastability is there cause I'll go different teams, different Control options, and different playing styles and formations.

It'll defo keep me going until FIFA 11.

I'm referring to Morrisions who are selling it for £25 on launch day, no doubt others will follow suit. My copy is a 'special' copy me hearties :PIRATE:, but I'm seriously considering trading FIFA 10 in for it on the PS3 for the online.

I'm guessing Dags just did the finals though. You can choose to do the full tournament with qualifications and everything, which is quite mammoth. I'm wondering whether there will be friendlies later on. You can also choose to play with multiple teams in a single campaign if you wish.

There's achievements for doing things with teams from different continents as well, so that adds a bit more life into it.

Yep, I just went to the World Cup option on the main menu, second one in the list I think.

That's the bit I'm dreading! Hate assisted dicks (as you are well aware) and I can see this being full of them as I imagine The World Cup will be against randoms. By that I mean you won't be able to set tournies up v online "mates".

The tossers will just wreck the experience. I've found one random game on non assist in all my time playing 10. Thank god for the little community we have elsewhere. It doesn't seem like many are going to get it from AV so bit stumped. I can see me getting in the end though.

Anybody know if Tescos are doing the £25 offer. I won't get to Morrisons early enough but there is a Tesco up the road from me.
