2010 FIFA World Cup

I scored a goal like that in 10. The shooting from range with Semi was brilliant I thought in 10'.

The pressure is my issue with this still, the pitch doesn't even feel bigger?! Its definitely slower though. FIFA 11 needs to sort out the defence (Great example above) and the being able to pressure like Tevez all game.

waited like mad for it to download...

I always love these tournaments specific games because the detail going into it is that much more than the standard generic. only pes2010 has more authenticity.

For example the pitch looks brilliant. grass is nice as well as the adboards crowds stadium etc lighting even looks more real.

Game plays well but is missing varied running animations. players sometimes still look robotic however not as robotic as in pes2010.

game plays fairly well and feel competitive against the ai

I want more though. the games a tease. i wish we'd get to see the weather effects more im wondering if other pitches look as good?

Guess another month or so before we know

Seeing how I don't often download Demos, is there some obligatory waiting period for Silver members before Demos are available. Because I am not allowed to start a download. :(

EDIT: Google is your friend. One week waiting.

Played one quick game and already I can't stand the 'crowd cut scenes'.

Not only because they really interrupt the action too much but also because I'm a miserable bugger and the morons dancing around like it's some Caribbean rave really do my head in.

i think it can be turned off in the options...

you´re not missing anything, mate.

is just impossible to have a serious opinion on a game based on a 2 minutes half game, specially for me that play 9 minuts half on full manual.

best thing is rent the full game or play some full matches somewhere before buying it. in 2 minutes everything is wonderful and flawless.

Pictures speak louder than words, so I'll throw these up. Perhaps not the right thread, but while we're on the subject...

Here are two separate examples from this week of the moment a player is about to release an attempted through ball from about 30/35 yards out. Look how Arsenal's defenders set up (even if the line isn't perfectly horizontal, it's their intent we're looking at).

1.

2.

To contrast with FIFA Italy's trademark 'startled starfish' defensive approach to the exact same scenario:

Very good examples mate, spells it out perfectly.
Get this sent over to Gary Paterson

Dunno what good that's gonna do...I personally submitted the following picture to one of their representatives a while ago however, by the look of it, there isn't even going to be a "create a tournament" feature in the game, lol:

Oh well.

Nerf, hope you don't mind but I posted this over on the EA Official Forum

I've not even downloaded the demo yet, let alone played it, yet I'm bored with it already.

This was just done to me a couple minutes ago. Of course it happens straight after I scored. Tried to select Pique and head this one clear in time but the game wouldn't give me control of him fast enough.

Why don't the fullbacks ever play their positions. I don't know if Capdevila is just that terrible he gets routinely caught out by Camoranesi and Ramos doesn't fair much better on his side in terms of positional awareness.

i scored a shot from about 25 yards out with De Rossi, it bounced right in front of the keeper and flew under his hand (fully extended dive) and into the corner, never saw anything like it in 10.

yup, i've scored a similar one where it went under Buffon and bounced in off the post. i'll record it next time.

for me the game needs more shooting animations though. the sounds of the ball hitting the net is hugely satisfying imo.

i may be in the minority but i love the zoomed-in celebrations now. i just want a better camera angle on them and the cam should zoom there it should just cut to the replay like in real life. also your team mates should be hugging you.

The players need to show more emotion too. It's ironic that rooney screams with passion on the cover of FIFA10 yet ingame has a placid look on his face like he doesn't care.

My point is that you don't hit shots that can bounce OVER the keeper's hand.

Not played it yet today but I'm 99.99% sure you can't hit a 25 yard laces shot that dips unless it's on the volley. The trajectory of shots, including your bouncing shots I imagine, is still very flat.

You can hit free kicks from 20 yards with top spin, that go over the wall but are fairly low when they reach goal. Why can't you do the same with shots? The only real trajectory you are offered is the sweet spot, always rising type of shot. It's why shots from 50 yards are as effective as they can be - they travel forwards very flatly and at high speed. You almost don't have to judge the amount of power you go for because, as long as it's on target and it leaves the floor, it will still be flying at a rate of knots when it approaches goal. Scoring from 50 yards should be bloody hard because you have to judge, not just the direction, but exactly how hard you should hit it to dip just in time to beat the keeper. In FIFA and WC2010, the shot trajectories do not ask the latter of you. Long range shots are all Ronaldo vs Porto, flat and powerful. There's no real parabola to speak of.

So I'm sure I'm late to the part with this one but, from Simon Humber:

There's no 10 v 10 in World Cup.

The reasons are many.

1. 10 v 10 is a massive amount of work. Even just to do what was in FIFA 10 and make no improvements is a lot of days work.

2. We thought for a long time about what a 10 v 10 game mode would be in World Cup. With Online Clubs it's easy. You create a club, it's fictional & so there's little attachment. When you choose who you'll play as, the club members will tend to support different teams and so again there's little attachment.

That doesn't work with countries. Members of a "club" would usually be from the same country and tend to play as that country. So looking at our usage figures we deduced that there would be too little variety in matches in World Cup. They'd be way too many England v England v England v USA v France v Germany v England games. You'd get fed up of that.

3. With the time we then had we could innovate with new online modes, namely Online World Cup & World League Ladder. So you can still get your 10 v 10 fix in FIFA 10, and experience brand new online modes in World Cup.

First I was like -

In all honesty, this might not even be a rental anymore for me. He mentions clubs in the quote. Does that mean that we can still do the one-off 10 v 10 matches. Or is Online Team Play in any form COMPLETELY out of the game?

i think thats a fair enough point tbh. I want Clubs to be worked on properly for Fifa11. It needs a lot of work.

But they don't have to add Clubs. Just like we used to play 5 v 5 with regular teams in FIFA 08 and then when TONS of people played regular one-off OTP matches in 09 and 10, why wouldn't you add that for this one?

To be honest I couldn't care less about clubs and I understand why it might not work as well in this game, but the regular one-off OTP games? That really doesn't sound like a glaring omission to you?

I mean, are there going to be random ranked/unranked 1 v 1 matches in the game? If so, they don't think that there will be a ton of England v Spain v France v Brazil etc., etc.?

And really, on the subject of clubs, you don't feel like Clubs is really just a bunch of people trying to score as many goals and do as many tricks as they can to level their guy up. I really don't see the appeal (though I know there seems to be a ton there for many people). The club that I was on for a moment in FIFA 10 was me playing CAM and praying that I got the ball all while watching my teammates do stepovers in an end to end sprintfest. We talk about slow build up play and using the midfield, and clubs doesn't seem to contain ANY of that. At least not if you want to be successful at it.

EDIT: According to Mr. Humber 10 v 10 is the mode that's played by the least amount of people in FIFA. You learn something new every day I suppose...

10v10 was literally the only mode I could stand on FIFA10 (and 5v5 on 09). Every other mode was unbearable shite.

AI scored a couple of nice goals against me for a change.

Torres passed to Villa > Villa performs a dragback(!) making my defender look like a loser because he slid where the ball used to be > Villa then tucks one in under my keeper.

I don't think I ever saw the AI perform any kind of trick in FIFA10.

Next goal, Torres receives the ball on the corner of the 6 yard box > Passes(!) the ball across to Villa who taps home into an empty net.

100000 times out of 100000, Torres would either had shot or just walked with the ball straight into my keeper in FIFA10.
