2006 FIFA World Cup (EA Sports)

I thought EA were supposed to pride themselves on their graphics!

but just comparing PES with Fifa player models, Fifa players look melted, and make me wanna throw up

Apart from that the presentation is nice, it just looks awful though

why wont they i wonder?
Laziness......but speaking on WE/PES terms, I think, besides laziness, it has something to do with you also being able to control players with the D-pad. A D-pad really only has 8 directions. Thus instead of coding properly for the analogue stick, Konami just transfers the same movements from the d-pad to the analogue stick. Now in EA's case there is no other reason than laziness since the D-pad is no longer used for player movement in their FIFA games, but is now used for tactics.

I would love for football games to use the analogue sticks properly. Player dribbling would benifit immensely from this. Example. A slight push in a direction would result in a slow controlled dribble. The furthur you push the analogue stick from the center the faster your player would move and dribble. Just like it is in games that use analogue sticks properly.

lets hope next generation PES will use analog stick fully and if its proven to work maybe EA could "borrow" that feature too to FIFA series.

:) yep, now why dont they code 2 different controller systems? one for the DPad and one for the Analogue stick? that would do it for me!!

JUST GOT THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Full US Version.

Played brazil vs columbia in olympistadion.

ball physics remind me of euro 2004 but tweaked to be more free.
kicking reminds me more of football kingdom
graphics are INSANE! All things you hated in RTTWC are gone though so this game is a big step up.

This game isn't a winning eleven clone. it just plays it's own game. more on the arcade side of things now.

I compare the gameplay to Football kingdom now and I just love it!

Played the demo in GAME yesterday. Great skin texture, brilliant. Doesn't look too good in game play view, but then I was pretty close to the screen

I have also played the full game in GAME and I didnt think the game was that bad through balls were to effective, shooting you didnt seem to have any control what so ever on the outcome, but I thought passing was very fluid especially when you turned the game speed to slow otherwise the game was too fast and very bad.

Plus side penalties on FIFA are so much better than penalties on WE but apart from that avoid the game to be honest.

Got the game also. Played two games. So far, so good. A definite improvement on FIFA 06/RTWC so EA gains ground on Konami again. Played WE10 last night at a friends for two hours and both games play at a similar speed.

Unless Konami bring out a specific 360 version of WE with some better licenses and some bug fixes, I'm going with FIFA 07 for this next year based upon this World Cup game.

When the hell will FIFA 07 be out, not till May 07 at least....or later?
Won't PES be out on the 360 by then ?

The 07 version will be out Sept. 06. Remember that EA always release their new games in late Summer/early Fall for all of the sports titles.

I don't expect to see a PES/WE game on the 360 until after one has been released on the PS3 and given Konamis release schedules at present, nothing on the North American side for the 360 until Spring 2008. Europe will get PES for the 360 probably Summer 2007. They won't convert WE10 to 360, they always base the versions on the main Japanese release which again this year, is PS2 based.

Every website which says Konami are releasing a 360 version is based upon a comment made by Seabass during last Fall but that was when it was assumed the PS3 would be released this Spring. No way on this planet will Konami work on a specific 360 version, no way on this planet. No website has any details or any release date when they make the WE/PES 360 claim.

I gotta say this first and foremost. this is the BEST fifa game i've EVER played....
i started my soccer gaming experiences with fifa world cup 2002 on gamecube. back then i thought it was amazing, but then after modding my gamecube I saw the beauty of Winning eleven with Winning eleven: final evolution. that game was remarkable. It felt real it felt like strategic chess game. it was fantastic. soon there after I found out that since it didn't sell well on the Cube in japan that konami would no longer make it for the gamecube. that bummed me out and convinced to buy a PS2 and to mod it as well. I then played ONLY winning eleven. WE7,8,9 and now 10:). i played a few of the fifa's along the way fifa 2003,2004 and 2005 to 2006. all of which were only marginally better from each other but extremely UNPLAYABLE. now in 2006 with the XBox 360 we see the next gen of soccer games(sorry i'm from the states). fifa 06 RTTWC I bought along with my 360 just about 2 weeks ago now. RTTWC was not good in any way unfortunately . unplayble yet OK to look at in some parts. yet through videos and hope i wanted to get The new fifa...fifa world cup 2006.

now my review begins.........

:lmao: Is this a joke? NO! it is not. Ths game is great and makes me owning a 360 completely worth it.

I'll start with the cons first. after about 3hrs of testing EVERYTHING

Slowdown. there are times when the game can kinda skip or stutter while the ball is passed around or shot at goal. Howvber this is remedied by just NOT playing in ANY dusk stadium.

...and that it.

pro's:

In order to really experience this game at it's best i play this way.
new analog control similiar to WE
camera angle at Sideline
height at lowest and zoom at highest.
Amateur level.
Gamespeed normal. If you go into slow OR fast the game stutters bad well not THA bad but it's smooth like normal is.
I also avoid ANY dusk stadium as the light tends to add to the stutter. i also noticed that the more rough a pitch looks the worse the gameplay can be meaning jittery.

that aside.

the new shooting mechanics are finally feeling better and more realistic.
the dribbling is BETTER than WE by a landslide. The dribbling looks better in my opinion as well.
penalty kicks. this new way of taking penalties is truly next gen nothing like it i've ever seen remarkable a full 1.0 point just becasue of it.
Player likeness. i adore adriano and they've done him perfectly.
passing,etc is much much better
and...Graphics. RTTWC looks like shit compared to it. beautiful.

everything said and done. i'm not drunk i'm not stupid just logcal.
this game is great on the 360. It plays very close to how football kingdom did. meaning Fk wanted to be We yet it was being itself. same goes for fifa world cup 2006.

i love it.

P.S. I will not play another PS2 game anymore, it's time for the new consoles...

I think its good based on just playing the PC demo but bumperman if you endeavour to play it on Professional Level you will find the Goalies are suddenly a lot better, and some of them spectacular goals you were scoring before you wont be afterwards!! I think that element of the game sucks where as PES seems to be fairly consistan with goalkeeping skill, it just talks bullshit in other departments.

My Order has been despatched, so I should hope to get it tomorrow, but probably Friday. I still think your too harsh on WE/PES DJ, while I have played the last 2 versions of FIFA, both entertained me, but only till PES was released, I think 06 was a HUGE improvement over 05, but for me the same leap happened in PES5 over 4, so it went back into it's box never to appear again.

Sure WE/PES has annoying flaws, but so far, no one has matched the playability or animations for when you playing your mates etc. The reports about WE10 have made me jealous, but I'm willing to try out WC as I want a different game for abit of time, it'll prob never last till the WC in reality but it's worth a try.

Does anyone remember exactly how many footie games we used to get the past!!!! I mean we are now down to 2 choices really, which for me is a shame, I cant say I played every game in the past, but it was nice to try different games, back in the days of the MegaDrive and SNES, hell even the Dreamcast had a variety of games as it didnt get any EA titles!!!

Maybe I am a little hard but if the CPU beat me by playing well with good tactics id be happy. If it talks bullshit and suddenly your players become crap and cant control a simple pass aimed in there direction.. or the CPU can get away with hacking your players down..... it annoys me.

This is getting some pretty great reviews too. I've ordered a copy, should have it tommorow. Gameplay haven't let me down yet with getting my orders to me a day early.

First Fifa game I'll have bought in years!

man, no one looks to be putting the game out early either.. looks like I will have to wait for Friday

Can someone answer this... why in the new FIFA's (im not sure about the older ones), if you take a long shot it practically ALWAYS hits the bar before going in like 90% of the time, and the keeper just does the same OLD animation where he dives back with one hand, which i can remember on fifa 98...

Well I've been playing the full PC version today while I wait for my 360 version to arrive tomorrow. And I must say the game is fun, it's no WE beater but it's a great alternative a mixture of the best gameplay parts from this and WE's would be ideal, and I hope the 360 version increases my enjoyment even more.

Its going to take a fair bit more depth in the gameplay department to beat WE/PES.

DJ

i've been playing the full 360 version yesterday for 4 hours...game is fun but not as good as WE... you can choose between 3 speed...slow normal and fast, unfortunatly only the normal is playable...the other 2 have slowdown and stutters problems :-(
the problem is that the normal speed is not good...it's a little bit to fast...

If you follow EA's soccer titles closely, you'll notice that the gameplay has shifted throughout the years to mimic WE, and in World Cup it comes closer than ever before. It doesn't hurt that you can choose the "New Analog" control scheme, a replica of the basic WE controls. Is that a knock on EA? Maybe. It seems like more of a "if you can't beat em, join 'em" mentality than anything and, aside from lacking originality, the gameplay of World Cup is a treat.

Says it all really
