I think you do not understand the TeamVision thing, do you? This wil get rid of that scripted gameplay.
Oh well, you DO understand it, but you are far too sceptic to believe it.
What else should you complain about ;)

Somthing else: No Euro's or Dollars? What is worrying about that is that my contact assured me this would be in the game. Now it is not the case, I wonder how reliable this source was... :(

No 4-5 divisions then? I guess we shouldn't trust anyone til leipzig.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

people are never happy are they?
the ML screens look impressive, + it give as an idea that they (konami) have been working on the ML mode this time around, how much has ipmroved no one know at the moment, it may not be preffect, but its a good start, we should give konami credit for that, at list they finaly are working on it.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

^ hey even I was impressed by the new screens dude. That says something as im usually very critical of Pro Evo.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

And edit mode, they're doing more than they usually do.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

Those french reviews say that in general PES2008 gives a feeling of déja vu in terms of gameplay and one reviewer specially pointed out that there was no pleasure in playing PES2008.Once again it might be a new and different (harder)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

^ That could also mean though that TeamVision has perhaps made the game more scripted in favour of the CPU? thats my biggest concern, im all for making it more challenging in a realistic way but not when its all for the CPU teams becoming legends in their own lunchtimes!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

No, TeamVision should remove the scripts. Maybe the man is a poor player and cannot win anymore....

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

These reviewers it takes more than 3 games to get to know pro evo and the changes, its when you go back to the previous game having played the new one for a week or two that you notice the major differences

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

TeamVision and AI cheating have nothing to do with each other. Its possible to have both at the same time. Just because we have TeamVision now, dont start assuming that the CPU wont cheat. We wont know until we get the game in our hands.

Would you like to show how you know this? You don't really, do you? You are just assuming because that's what it really SHOULD be doing. So far all we know is that in Master League mode the opposition AI makes it harder by stopping you playing certain ways. Please don't spout such unconfirmed bullshit like it's the truth because it will confuse people and skew their expectations.

I am utterly pissed off with the new screens. I want to see what Winston et al think but to me it looks like a load of glossy, superficial additions which add nothing to the depth of the game whatsoever. Cut-scenes, interviews, images of fans, "best image of fans this week (wtf?)", "popularity points", still no currencies...what the fuck are they playing it. Fair enough, some of these little things might make the ML better on the eye but is it really going to improve it when we still have ridiculous league structures, unrealistic currencies and let me guess you still won't be able to change teams. What annoys me MOST of all though, is the "GAME OVER" screen. Not only is game over still there, they now have a dedicated screen showing you what causes game over! It's pathetic, how many other football games have "game over", imagine Football Manager, you go into debt and it's GAME OVER. They haven't got a clue. This "rank up" thing stinks of driving games etc. it's just not realistic, I haven't seen a single thing on those Master League screenshots that actually makes me anticipate the game with any excitement. What a let down.

If TeamVision is what Konami told us, there is no need to use scripts anymore. The AI doesn't need it anymore because it makes tactical decisions to turn the match around. When there is a need for cheating for the CPU, it just does the dive ;)

And shirt pulling ,I wonder how will (shirt pulling) work?It can't just be some random animations

i agree with u, but i hope the cheating has gonne, as playing ML as it is at the moment, its unplayble & not fun playing against cpu:roll: well we will find out soon i gues

Yes, I wonder about that too.. Maybe press X and keep holding it while you are behind the attacker or so..

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

you don´t have to push a button by shirt pulling it´s just an animation i read it in a mag

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

I read a preview that said Shirtpulling was an animation, like you say might be automatic when you hold X to press the opponent.

Yeah, I haven't spoken to my new contact on this but unfortunately it does seem like it was a load of bollocks. From the information gained from these new shots (and what I can gather from my original, 100% reliable contact) I agree with Han. It looks like we were fed a load of crap about the ML divisions, the sponsors and all that - but I did say in fairness that it was a new contact and I wasn't sure whether he could be trusted. Shit happens, unfortunately. There are some sad bastards around.

I'll tell you what I've just heard from my original contact but I think it will blow apart people's trust of me completely. :mryellow: And in all fairness, with all the stuff that was being said, I can understand people waiting to read it in a magazine before they believe it. But anyway, he's managed to get hold of the new FIFA, along with his department, and apparently they are all in agreement that they're buying both games this year and there is virtually nothing in it. Gameplay wise they're both the best they've seen so far but PES does some things better (the fact that you can make your own custom team and take them to glory in the ML) and FIFA does some things better (more teams, more leagues and total freedom of movement, feeling detached from the players around you - no magnets, if you know what I mean). Apparently the passing and the flow in PES is amazing, and the movement and dribbling system in FIFA is amazing.

As always I'll try and drag more out of him even if I think it'll be fighting a losing battle, he's NDA'd about most things. But if he does say anything I will report it on here.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

Am I the only one who doesnt know what NDA stands for?

Last I heard it was the National Dyslexic Association.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

I like the new screens but they aren't mind blowing, with the tactics they are using one would hope that Konami are saving the big guns for Leipzig.

I think these new screen are brilliant .

Seriously though, what they appear to be coming up with here is the sort of thing you produce as icing on the cake, the finishing touches to a complete and perfect product.

The ML has become an utter bore and this frivolous poppycock with cut scenes and poularity ratings comes down at the bottom of features this game needs, just above extra shark heads. There's so much fundamentally lacking in the ML and they come up with this? Is this perhaps the big secret? Is the reason they want it kept a secret because they're so embarassed? The thing is, they're probably proud and excited at what sort of reception this all new ML will get.

I also completely agree with the comments about there being absolutely no evidence whatsoever that TeamVision has removed even one cpu cheat from the game and indeed, might actually just be a whole bunch of extra ones. Time will tell but I'll be looking for them.

PES2008 will pretty much define PES on PS3. They'll tinker with it over the coming years, but what we get this year sets the trend. From the evidence so far, it's looking like 7-8 years of the same tired old game.

A few of days ago, I was beginning to feel the beginnings of some sense of optimism about PES2008. I must have been deluded.

It looks like my signature could well remain unchanged for a long time, except the annual change of the number from PES2008 to 2009, 2010, etc.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

I don't understand, honestly, why people bother about points or euros. That won't make the ML better, it is just a gimmick that i honestly don't bother. Complaining about it is a joke.

The screens are cool, but if the news given before (sponsors, you can build your stadium, etc) are fake, damn... those are terrible news.

Oh well... let's wait until some guys here go to Leipzig so I can invest those 500 in anything else before buying a PS3

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/14/07)

Lets hope fifa sorts its gameplay issues out this year. The ML screens have really dissapointed me, all they show is fluff being added to the game. Which corresponds with the german pcgamer's preview that the ML is pimped. Which so far seems to be the most reliable sources as the "ml contacts" have all gone quite and / or backtracked. So all in all it looks like the only additions to the ML are these fluff elements and that we will be left with the same old structure. I still live with a bit of hope (however misplaced that is) that leipzig will have some big news, but seeing konami's history i just dont see it happening.

And that brings me on to the people moaning about the cynical group in here. Konami have brought that on themselves, shafting us for a few years now, doing as little as possible to make the game sell. Its only natural for a lot of us to feel apprehension to the latest release of the game we love, or used to love. And the screens being released have only confirmed it, as well as the offical previews who for the most part havent said anything special. Gameplay feels a the same, teamvision hasnt been noticed, graphics have been ugly (in the beta) a couple of teams have been added, etc etc. We only have to look at the "official" list of news so far on the first page to see how much has/is actualyl changing. Lets have a look:

News :
- AI new system named "Teamvision" NEW
- Alot of new animations GENERAL EVOLUTION
- New wall system (number of players) GENERAL EVOLUTION
- PC version is Next Gen too
- Amazing facial animations GENERAL EVOLUTION
- Edit Mode special for Next Gen NEW
- Kits that flow and crease as the players run around. STILL TO SEE HOW GOOD IT IS
- Watermarks from sweat and rain appear on the player as the game continues.STILL TO SEE HOW GOOD IT IS
- Shirt pulling PART OF THE NEW ANIMATIONS
- Cut Scenes in Pubs FLUFF
- Bench with subs and coach FLUFF
- Bench reaction during the game FLUFF
- You can see the stadium from outside FLUFF
- C.Ronaldo on the cover of the game
- Michael Owen on the UK cover
- Diving NEW, COMP CHEATING?
- Gameplay and passing faster GENERAL EVOLUTION
- Shooting is better/harder GENERAL EVOLUTION
- No more blackscreen after a foul GENERAL EVOLUTION
- Playerprofil with statistics. GENERAL EVOLUTION
- More and better lifelike animations PART OF THE NEW ANIMATIONS
- More detailed playermodels I WOULD HOPE SO ON THE NEXT GEN!
- Untucked shirts GENERAL EVOLUTION
- Full 3D fans LOOK THE SAME AS PES6 IN THE SCREENS
- Amazing collisions AGAIN PART OF THE ANIMATION
- GoalKeepers very realistic AGAIN PART OF THE ANIMATION/GENERAL DEVELOPMENT
- New Menu more simple with blue world map on the background FLUFF
- No more scripts, better control of the player TEAMVISION/GENERAL DEVELOPMENT
- The ball physique look more heavy GENERAL DEVELOPMENT
- GoalKeeper can up for corner NEW
- Moving hairs REALLY?
- New slide tackle GENERAL DEVELOPMENT
- Didier Drogba and C.Ronaldo on the French cover of the game
- Drogba/C.Ronaldo move ANIMATION

- Fantasista Mode also in PES 2008 NEXTGEN?
- The ML Mode is better PIMPED? = FLUFF
- The referee uses a whistle WOW, I THOUGHT HE FARTED
- Many passing-animations AGAIN ANIMATIONS
- Better ball protection (better collision)GENERAL DEVELOPMENT
- better control for pass (more sharp) GENERAL DEVELOPMENT
- Irritated coach FLUFF

- New camera on PK (behind the goalkeeper) when the computer shoot vs you NEW
- Much better AI in very hard TEAMVISION
- Latvia is replaced by Israeli national team
- Lucas Neill on Australia cover
- Put your face, shirt and music in the game EDITING MODE
- Replays two times more long and alot of new angles GENERAL DEVELOPMENT

Now how many elements are actually new worth while additions to the game?
- General developments are adjustments to the existing game, adjusting gamespeed, ball weight etc.
- Animations is adding to the existing engine, and could be seen as general developments.
- Fluff are additions that after the first week will be skipped by the majority of people (manager animation, bench in pauze menu, fan pictures in ML, etc)
- NEW are actual elements that can/will change the game as we play it, teamvision has the potential to be really good, changing the penalty cam for the goalie is also a good change imo, the edit mode also looks really good, diving has been added but we will have to wait and see how that effect the game, having the goalie come up is also a decent addition for last minute tension.

So in the end, as the news stands now, we have 5 new elements in the game, quite a few fluff additions and the rest is general improvement/change with animations and gameplay adjustments. Thats not really a lot is it?

And for those who will come out saying they have had to build a new game, just look at the interview between seabass and riot i posted earlier in this thread (around the ml "news" time) were he says that the pes6 360 gameengine is the base for all the coming versions. So they havent built a new engine as some people seem to believe, theyve just done some annual adjustments (general devlopment and animations) added some fluff and 5/6 worthwhile additions to actually improve the game beyond the existing gameplay engine. Thats not enough, and they have been doing this for years now!

For FIFA 08 you can save a whole match and it'll convert into a proper video (avi, mpeg ect). Why can't Konami do something like this. I don't think they know how big the game is on PC and how many peopel buy it.
