surely they are saving ML for Germany, surely ](*,)

my guess is that the new ML is only on the next gen and PC versions.

Community sounds good, World Tour sounds crap (hated it on the other versions), and no ML improvements... Well... There you go.

I still reckon the ML will be online on next-gen formats, after the huge number of hints dropped by various magazines (mainly the official PlayStation magazine).

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

Come on Jack, remember its been pimped for the nextgen version.......I just cant wait to see a few pubscreens after the match. And then continue with the same ol ML shit :(

I like the world tour option, its the same as the challenges on fifa and ive got fond memories of those and the original ones on ISS. Tnx konami, youve finally added a 10year old option back to the game, good on you!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

Anyway, back to the interesting analog shooting/passing with curve games.

Anyone remember actua soccer? I remember that fondly from the ps1. Short passing was fairly scripted as far as i remember (the ball would always go a few meters ahead of your player to run on to) but it was the shooting that i really enjoyed / found frustrating. More often then not the ball would go to the corner flag but every so often you would hit the perfect shot with the direction and curve/dip (which you determind yourself) to score an absolute beauty. Now im not for that total system to be reintroduced as.....well it was a bit of a bastard to use. However the simple use of after touch to add curve/dip worked really well and resulted in some beautiful goals that you yourself controlled and had a fairly large portion in positioning where the ball would go. Can anyone really say that anymore with pes?

I dont think it would be that hard to introduce and would go some way to keep the total analog people happy. Atm there is hardly any curve on shots (or atleast curve you control). The same basic system could be kept (the main sections of the goal that you now aim towards) but adding after touch would just add that little bit more control to aiming you shots, which atm is fairly minimal. How many TH edge of the box shots are now paossible? Any at all? Now im not asking for themto be easy or a regular occurence, but just that little but of extra control really would go some way to help make the shooting more interactive. After all analog/d-pad shooting is still fairly basic with the amount of options available through the controlpad. Pressing r2 or whatever button to add scripted bend isnt what we want, just add better after touch. I think that might also be a flaw in fifa's shooting atm, they have determind it very precisely to player standing/speed/ball position etc for 07 with added elements for 08. However when youre playing from the normal camera position (wide/tele/normal/etc) nobody can actually see those details surely? So basicly they are adding extra "control" that nobody can see while playing. The best games have a fairly simple control system that gives you a lot of freedom to play the game how you want, atm both pes (with more and more scripting) and fifa (with more and more physics) seem to have lost that focus point.

Essentially playing football is about hitting the ball in a certain way to control how it moves. Its fairly simple, you use your foot to hit the ball and it bends/moves in a certain way. Outside factors are speed/balance/pitch conditions/weather/wind/etc, but in the end its about choosing how to hit the ball and then seeing how the rest affects it. Thats what the passing and shooting control scheme should be about. All the rest comes after and that gets learnt during a game (a very wet pitch needs less pass power or more depending on wet patches, more right side aiming for wind conditions, etc). With all the physics/scripting getting the focus we're left with a system that is so complicated that we can no longer determine this simple action. I mean the power system in pes doesnt give much control, or atleast the control you would want. In fifa i could curl the ball in every corner in the lobby with ronaldinho, but translating that to the side view didnt work, imo, and i was left with fairly identical shots each time.

@ pepper, you know there is another option to posting shit when there is no news? Dont post anything or participate in one of the discussions going.........Ignore Hazza, thats what the rest of us are doing :D
You are totally spot on mate.Actua soccer also had the pitch mark up as you made the tackle,i'd love to see that in next gen,i mean there have been alot of footie games in the last15 years, john barnes had one on the pc,they should just take the best bits and make a cracking game. And i hear you reguarding off topic.cheers mate.

I hope international challenge is in the next gen versions.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

No change in ML. This is the PS2 version. NOT PS3/360. Looks like they added Community and World tour from J League. Not bad. I couldn't care less about this PS2 version to be honest.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

next gen will have the same ML like PS2. well thats it for me. FU konami and welcome FIFA

So far what we've seen is added pubscenes and that the german pc-gamer said the ML had been pimped. As i posted before that would normally mean the pubscenes and stuff are the biggest changes (when regarding the meaning of "pimped"). Hopefully im wrong, but konami has dissapointed us single players for years now and im at a point where i expect that the be continued (making the adding of pubscenes the major "development" of the nextgen ML).

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

there is no sense in giving next gen a new ML. they would have to generate 2 different mechanics. why should they? ps2 can handle a new ML as good as a ps3 does. ps2 wont have as much animations and the best graphics but ML will be the fuckin same.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

Because it has been confirmed that next gen ML is different.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

Summary of Preview:

* New and Improved commentary
* Better passing and first touch
* A lot of new animations
* Easier free kicks
* Community - new game mode that lets you track stats, cups and leagues for you and your friends while playing each other.
* World Tour - new game mode with mission based matches against random teams. Win without running offside against Morocco. Defend a lead against Costa Rica. Etc.
* New, lousy music in the menus.
* No improvements of Master League at all as far as I could tell without being able to save in this version of the game.

Mission-based matches? "Win without running offsides"? "Defend a Lead"? What is this CRAP? Who gives them these BRILLIANT ideas?

What's next, "PES shooter" where you shoot more than 30 times on target in a single game?
"Run Forrest mode", where you dribble past an entire team to "go to the next level"?
Have they LOST THEIR MINDS?

So instead of making a UEFA CL-like competition incorporated into their fake leagues with some other phoney name, they go for this CRAP????

Terrible.

I can't believe they invested more than 2 seconds into this idea. And 2 seconds is what you need to clearly say "NO".

On a much brighter side, I'm excited about the "better first touch" news. That's all.

People, For Gods Sake, there's no need to exaggerate when it has been confirmed that ML on next gen is differnet and this swedish article is clearly saying no ML changes on the PS2. That doesn't need a genius to understand it.

Pitty :( I came to the same conclusion and thought I was a genius :D

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

Lami it hasn't been CONFIRMED next-gen ML is different. Stop trying to defend Konami here because it makes you look desperate. All we know, all we know - is that the ML has been "pimped" - that could mean a few cut-scenes or a few new menu graphics it is certainly not confirmation that they have totally re-vamped it to the level we are all hoping.

Come on man, don't tell you did not have lots of fun playing with players wearing gigantic dogs head or riding weird animals.........what about putting those funky hair cuts....
Yes I have just been sarcastic......

I mean we want a football simulation, why do they put all this crap I don't understand. Time wasted, but since they have no money to pay for real license the off line modes are completely useless. If they could at least fix the lag issue we could have fun on line (maybe hiring an adm to prevent all those cheaters to spoil the game????).

So at the time being off line is dull and repetitious, on line is broken. If they don't fix that my money is gonna be spent for other games. No offense but putting more realism in the way cristiano ronaldo wears his tshirt does not do it for me.
I also don't check out footie players as much as i do check out women.....

Konami never cease to amaze at their ineptitude, I can't see any hope for the off pitch side of the title until it's taken away from dumb-ass!! win a game without running off side? Win a game without stepping on the lines... and they complain they don't have time to put things in!

Well it does seem that the ps2 is limiting the possible development of a fully next gen experience (i dont mean graphics but content) which is a shame, seems like perhaps well have to wait till next year to get the Huge update we were all expecting and craving. Still this years version sounds promising and ill still buy it, to be honest however vain it sounds im really looking forward to doing the drogba move (drools).

Also i saw a video on youtube of some of the skills in fifa 07, since i havent played fifa for about 7 years nor really looked at it i was shocked at how many skills they could put in a game, i honestly believed the reason these skills weren in pro evo was because they were too hard to put in but damn.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

I'm not trying to defend Konami i'm just trying to "make sense" instead of being ignorant. The article is about PS2 and yet you're all insisting its related to next-gen. Sheer ignorance.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

I've got past the anger stage, now I just laugh. I would love to see what was said in the meeting when they agreed to do the "World Tour" feature. I envision them sitting around a huge round executive table with 20's stuffed into every pocket, everyone laughing at a big projection of the last games sales figures whilst Seabass is in the background snorting a line of coke of a hookers ass. Some kid walks in with a new feature idea he has scribbled onto a napkin and he tells the group how "people would love to play missions like not running offside in a whole game". The whole team erupts into a chorus of laughter as someone shouts out "let's put it in, they'll still buy it anyway! *hahahaah*".

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

From what I understand after reading the level 7 preview there are new commentators, not just improved comments.
I might be wrong but that's the impression I got.

Don't remember if it's been confirmed that there would be new commentators in the game.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

I would love to see what was said in the meeting when they agreed to do the "World Tour" feature.

"What if we add a little excitement to the game? Our customers have complained of a lack of atmosphere"

"How do you suggest we do that? We already have crowds, we have players, and we have a commentator commentating on the game"

"Well, the game is still about winning and scoring goals. Isn't this a bit boring?"

"Sure, go on."

"How about we add another "mission" to the game?"

"Like what?"

"A player would have to win a match without running offsides. This would accomplish two things. It would make playing more difficult, and it would add a different objective to the match. Now the player is trying to balance both objectives while playing!!!"

"BRILLIANT, plus we'll be the only dumba$$es to ever have this feature in a soccer game! LET'S DO IT"

"Yes and let's not forget missions worked great for games like Metal Gear Solid!"

****1 year later.... WE/PES sales are higher than Fifa simply because Fifa's gameplay sucks****

"How are we doing?"

"The game continues to sell a lot better, thanks to the new "Tour Mode" we implemented."

"Your idea turned out to be a huge success. Let's hear more of them."

About the tour thingy, ISS game series on the Super Nintendo and N64 had the same game mode, so it ain't a new idea. Which confirms that PS WE team and N64 ISS team has joined forces in the last 3 years.

But the thing is who was behind the idea of scripted play?

I go to martins every morning to get my fruit (im healthy me) and to check which mags are out, there is a new xbox mag (forget which one) which was released today (i think didnt see it there y'day says sep2007 issue) which says it has a new comparison with fifa 08 which could prove fruitful if anyone wants to buy it

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/27/07)

konami are just making the game unrealistic if they are going include that stupid mission based matches. why dont they stop wasting their time with that crap and improve the ml and the competitions and tryting to get more licenses and things like that.
