Anyway, back to the interesting analog shooting/passing with curve games.
Anyone remember actua soccer? I remember that fondly from the ps1. Short passing was fairly scripted as far as i remember (the ball would always go a few meters ahead of your player to run on to) but it was the shooting that i really enjoyed / found frustrating. More often then not the ball would go to the corner flag but every so often you would hit the perfect shot with the direction and curve/dip (which you determind yourself) to score an absolute beauty. Now im not for that total system to be reintroduced as.....well it was a bit of a bastard to use. However the simple use of after touch to add curve/dip worked really well and resulted in some beautiful goals that you yourself controlled and had a fairly large portion in positioning where the ball would go. Can anyone really say that anymore with pes?
I dont think it would be that hard to introduce and would go some way to keep the total analog people happy. Atm there is hardly any curve on shots (or atleast curve you control). The same basic system could be kept (the main sections of the goal that you now aim towards) but adding after touch would just add that little bit more control to aiming you shots, which atm is fairly minimal. How many TH edge of the box shots are now paossible? Any at all? Now im not asking for themto be easy or a regular occurence, but just that little but of extra control really would go some way to help make the shooting more interactive. After all analog/d-pad shooting is still fairly basic with the amount of options available through the controlpad. Pressing r2 or whatever button to add scripted bend isnt what we want, just add better after touch. I think that might also be a flaw in fifa's shooting atm, they have determind it very precisely to player standing/speed/ball position etc for 07 with added elements for 08. However when youre playing from the normal camera position (wide/tele/normal/etc) nobody can actually see those details surely? So basicly they are adding extra "control" that nobody can see while playing. The best games have a fairly simple control system that gives you a lot of freedom to play the game how you want, atm both pes (with more and more scripting) and fifa (with more and more physics) seem to have lost that focus point.
Essentially playing football is about hitting the ball in a certain way to control how it moves. Its fairly simple, you use your foot to hit the ball and it bends/moves in a certain way. Outside factors are speed/balance/pitch conditions/weather/wind/etc, but in the end its about choosing how to hit the ball and then seeing how the rest affects it. Thats what the passing and shooting control scheme should be about. All the rest comes after and that gets learnt during a game (a very wet pitch needs less pass power or more depending on wet patches, more right side aiming for wind conditions, etc). With all the physics/scripting getting the focus we're left with a system that is so complicated that we can no longer determine this simple action. I mean the power system in pes doesnt give much control, or atleast the control you would want. In fifa i could curl the ball in every corner in the lobby with ronaldinho, but translating that to the side view didnt work, imo, and i was left with fairly identical shots each time.
@ pepper, you know there is another option to posting shit when there is no news? Dont post anything or participate in one of the discussions going.........Ignore Hazza, thats what the rest of us are doing
