Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

I think the FIFA fans are idiots assumption is wearing thin. I've always maintained it myself but we are getting to the stage now where the gulf in class between the two games is growing smaller and smaller and the myriad of options and features, licensing, statistics etc. in Fifa in some respects make it a better game. This next game will be a huge one in the battle, make no mistake about it.

nah fifa still plays like shit...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

hey dude. yeah sorry for calling you a fool. GUess its the angst of waiting to see the game for real.
But I still stand by my statement that the weather changing from rain to no rain is already in pes6, and if pes 2008 has the weather go from sunny to rain to snow, then so what, it will not add anything to the game or game experience. Will just please those "weather junkies"

Well, I personally feel this goes a long way to making the game feel more realistic. PES6 had rain that stopped and started, but it didn't have any other dynamics to the weather. Maybe we will see cloud shadows on the pitch. Or players shadows changing lenght and shape when the sun sets on a afternoon game. Shadows on the pitch from the stadium changing aswell.

Things like these are very important for the "feel" of the game. I want to feel like I am playing a game in a "real" world, not just a stadium with cardboard choppy audience, no players or coaches at all on the bench, or no linesmen. It destroys the illusion of what real football is.

Obviously, gameplay comes first always, but if you go into the training mode and strike some freekicks, and it actually looks and "feels" like a late afternoon training session with long shadows, a golden shimmer from the sun, and cloud shadows slowly travelling over the pitch, the attraction to the game would be even bigger. It would be a pleasure just striking some freekicks in the sun. ;)

Fully agree with you there Trance_Allstar. It's the little things that add up to a more realistic game. It's the animations, the gameplay and the little things that make WE/PES what it is.

Har du ett PS3 förresten? Du får gärna lägga till mig om du vill spela lite (lag-fri) PES6 någon gång. :)

I totaly agree. All of this must be do-able if you look at the new standard of sports games: nba 2k7.

Sorry, I only play the PC version (don't own a PS3 or an X360), and I usually stick with WE9: Liveware Evolution anyways. ;)
Nice to see another fellow Swede here though. :)

I hope KONAMI spends some time on it for Next-Gen, definitely. It would probably just look disproportionate and weird if Stadiums, crowds and such didn't evolve along with the other player models, animations etc. :)

I'll always want more. ;)

Besides, most of these superficial changes are the easiest to implement. Just putting a coach and some substitute players on the bench is very easy, FIFA 2002 or smtn had it. The people sat on the bench, and they were animated to move a bit and change positions as they sat there. Not much at all, but it did so much.

And crowds, they just need to make them higher resolution and increase their animation resolution from 4 frames per animation to something that makes them move more smoothly than the very choppy movements we've seen so far. Then you assign them very basic 3d-bodies, and apply a very basic face. Done. I'm not talking about every audience member being as nice-looking as players on the pitch.

Again, this wouldn't take lots of planning and hours in mo-cap. Just give this to one of the graphic designers and I'm sure he could put something out in a week.

And if they don't have the manpower, they should definately expand their team. :)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

its not about expanding their team its about selling their game this year ,next year and all the years later they r not stupid enough u know to put everything they can now ,at the end of the day its a company trying to make profit on a man's dream(Seabass). Its nothing wrong with that don't u think?Everybody is happy u me them everyone(except EA of course). Those who play pes from the very beginning noticed that the presentation of the game in the stadium(when the camera shows the crowd)all this years is exactly the same. The real pain in the ass of sir Seabass is the licenses folks,if u want to really see what this team is all about u have to wait.

well, lets put it this way. i want konami to produce a sublime football simulation, What do I define this as?
- realistic ball and player physics and kinetics
- top notch stutter free animations,
- more freedom in movement, passing shooting,
- top notch and evolving AI for individual players and team
- tactics changin on the fly,
-player and refereeing mistakes,
- more expansive team management and tournament modes,
- lag free online play,
- vastly improved master league.
- And of course some excellent graphics ( they dont have to be photo realistic graphics, just good enough to give a credible illusion and experience of football from wide camera mode):D

I dont want photo realistic graphics just to keep the "replay junkies" happy and so they can wank off to the screenshots, if it results in a PS3 version of the infamous "stutter bug"! Oh how we all loved (saracasm alert!) that for the ps2, when konami tried to keep the "environmental effects junkies" happy by including crowd animations and and stadium effects, even at the expense of what was actually important - the game..........

That is what I want from PES next gen: sublime gameplay

If I want changing weather fx, with muddy shirts, sliding players, divots in the pitch, snowing obcsuring view, I would have fu**ing bought "Weather Sim 2008" by National Freakin Geographic!!! lordy pls give me strength

Wait up. I am not moaning at Seabass and think he does pretty well so far bar a few areas. I AM ACTUALY RANTING AT YOU. and your asinine comments about "reading between the lines" and "weather changes will change the entire experience".

Look I'll refer to Forumla One Championship on ps3. pretty good graphics, EXCELLENT Weather and rain effects, but what value doe sit give to the overall gaming experience - ZILCH, ZERO.

Thus I refuse to believe that Seabass will pander to weather junkies and spend dev time on this. Yes changing weather will be in pes2008 as it was in pes6, but why or how can it imnproive the gamingexperience, unless you have a fetish for rain droplets, mud and cloud shadows?

But it makes the people wanna play this game and than when they give it a try and gameplay is amazing than they will buy it.

Do you also want to feel the crunch of a souness stamp on the back of the knee? Now that would make you feel you're in the game...;)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

yes but video game development has always been and always will be about limits and thus when additional features or graphics are added in development it is always at the expense of some system resource/memory/cpu cycles elsewhere. Hence the infamouse ps2 stutter bug.

So depite PS3 and X360 being very powerful systems, they are not limitless in processing power.

Thus as I have always stated, I would want Konami to focus on game mechanics and overall immersive experience ,first and foremost and also creating excellent ( but not Crysis level of realism) graphics, and not stealing too much system resources for peripheral items such as players nose hair, and rain droplet physics.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

sorry to tell you this homie, but EA will never ever be considered a competitor in the football gaming genre. its a joke if you ask me. Konami have and will always be progressive. They are improving gameplay and details(players, balls, game environment, etc) on every installment.

Last time I check FIFA only throws in an occasional new mode or stupid new control.

I'm proud to say that every WE/PES is different, you have to literally re-learn how to shoot, pass, and etc...[/QUOTE.]
I understand your point,I'm not saying FIFA is better but might be better in the future if Konami don't improve their game.I'm not a fan of PES nor a fan of FIFA,I'm a fan of football video game (soccer for americans).Konami has delivered more realistic gameplay than any other game.I'm just saying over the years ,the gape (in terms of gameplay) between PES and FIFA has been reduced and Konami needs to do something about it.I'm not stubborn enough to say that FIFA hasn't improved over the years.
I also have a question for guys, why is there more teams in FIFA than PES?Is it a question of space,of liscence??If Konami could bring more teams even without liscence it'd be amazing.
Anyway peace to everyone and remember I am a fan of footie video game.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

what limits mate? the game already broke the limits.

Huh?? what the hell are you talking about.

Limits - they have always existed in game development. All systems have FINITE power for AI, game mechanics, grpahics, sound etc. Games development is not some sort of Willy wonka machine where you wish for it and it comes true!!!!:lmao:

The secret to the best devs, are they know the limits but push the machines to the very limits, by optimising code to distill the gameplay to the very best it can be, and not putting in crap features like rain droplet and mud physics when it is does not enhance the gameplay. These kind of things are just eye candy to make up for the fact that the game is pretty ordinary - exmaple - F1 for Ps3, motorstorm, Pirates of caribbean.

what the chances on kaka or messi>?

this game is screaming for Kaka to be on the cover.

what's wrong with"weather sim"? being that football throughout europe is played in all sorts of weather it is then very important that "weather changes" are important to to any sports game that is played outdoors. so come on all brands lets get actua football style markings on the pitch. better still put it all in then guys like me who type with one finger won't waste fucking people's time with bullshit....
