Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

Gamers these days, I dont THINK that the graphics will change, I dont THINK that is true, I HOPE this, I HOPE that...

Who cares what you think, seriously, if its things you want, you can build upon that, in the end of the day, we can only wait and see, and even then, people percieve things differently, some love the graphics, some dont. We aint seen it in motion, and tbh, the players could look like they do on PS2, but if they move lifelike, nice and fluent, free moving, NATURAL, surely thats next gen, making the players come alive? Make it seem like they are moving their own way, take knocks like its real, expressions in ther faces, along with the realistic ai, and physics etc, maybe they are creating the first true, lifelike football game?

Doesnt bother me anyway, id be happy to carry on playing PES7 on PS2 for now if its crap haha! But ive only been let down with the 360 version, but I believe that was a test for em, cause PES6 on PS2 was banging as usual lol.

This is a lesson on how to type a lot of words without actually saying anything at all.

It's not a debate, everyone has seen the evidence. Unless you are on CRACK it's quite obvious the graphics are not next-gen (based on those shots). Now you can say you don't care, that's fine, but for those who do care about graphics it's very disappointing to see a supposedly next-gen game so hopelessly inferior to most other next-gen games in the graphics department.

I guess the AI involved is just so much more complex than a full on war with thousands of bullets and tracers flying about that they've had to not bother with crowds and decent facial textures etc. [/sarcasm]

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

If you want to bitch, then there is a thread for that this topic is about news, so lets try and keep it geared that way.

*On-Topic*

I'm personally really pleased the name change was confirmed I think it helps give the series a much needed overhaul and hopefully that will run true with the game itself.

Latest release date news from work is 6th September although I think that might be a little optimistic.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

Ok so its nothing to do with PES 2008 so don't get too excited people. I was going through gamefront.de and found this interesting article. Translated from German:

Konami examines PS3-Games for Xbox 360 25.06.07 - Konami examines, which PS3-Games one could publish possibly on the Xbox 360. That writes the Nihon Keizai Shimbun in their current morning edition. Title does not call the newspaper. CLICK PICTURE (Nihon Keizai Shimbun)

I think thats proof that Konami makes its games based on PS3 then port it to 360.

Just thought i'd share this piece of information.

Here's what I would like to see, I hope you agree....

Referees
Although the CPU allows every ref decision to be right (if you ignore tackle vs. foul) I think there should be more scope for ref errors and controversy. It would have to be done right though so obvious calls are still made correctly but with close calls the ref could make the occasional blunder. The same would go for linesman; the closer an offside decision is, the more likely he is to get it wrong. You could even factor in how far away the ref/lineman is from the incident, with more distance increasing error probability.

Of course, this would be an in-game option so you can still have "perfect" refereeing if you want.

I think it goes without saying that the decision making for fouls needs looking at, too often a foul is called when you clearly got the ball. The computer is making the sound of contact so why is it so hard to relay this info to the CPU ref?

Fans, Stadium and Coaches
It is obviously impossible (at the moment) to model 50,000 3D fans accurately but surely we can have a better looking crowd? In the screenshots for PES2008, the crowd are all the same and Konami seem to think that everyone who goes to a football game wears their team's shirt.

I'd love to see managers and coaches added to the game too, standing in the dug outs in the stadium. You could even link it to 'Teamvision' so when your team adjusts its tactics, your manager comes storming out to the sidelines shouting and gesticulating at the players to change tact.

Commentary
This is the one area I think every agrees on. It isn't the choice of commentators that bothers me (Trevor Brooking who hasn't been a pundit since the old MOTD and Peter Brackley who I can only vaguely remember commentating on Football Italia), no it is the quality of commentary that needs addressing first. I don't know a lot about computing sounds to fit events but some of their analysis is so far off it's embarrassing. OK so I'm not expecting Andy Gray to come on and give a unique summary of my game, but at least fool my brain into thinking I'm listing to a real person a little.

Modding Support
I know the PES series is primarily based at the console market but could we please have better modding abilities given to the PC community? For example, why can't you add more teams to the game? I don't mean replace, I mean add! I don't see why you can't add as many leagues and teams as your hard drive supports. Kitserver allows you to add more kits, stadiums, faces etc to current PES titles but if the actual game coding could be done to allow expansion and have user made kits integrated into the actual game, it would be better.

Stats
Why can’t Konami gets their stats for all players from Opta or someone? Instead they just make the big club players better than they are and everyone else a pile of dog poo. I would also like to see more attributes attributed to players so that you make players more individual. For example, as well as having Speed and Acceleration, why not have "speed when in possession" so you can make people like Kaka realistic as he runs faster with the ball than without!

This maybe the ultimate in wishful thinking, but I'd love to see a monthly patch released by Konami with all the latest Opta stats so you're game is always up to date. Currently, some of the players like Kaka are underrated and Adriano way over rated and you have to wait for the next game to come out before you get realistic stats again.....

Mater League
This needs to be much more expansive and realistic. Adopt a "Football Manager" style transfer system so a player can turn you down as well as the club. Make it so you have to agree a transfer first and then wages and have players hand in transfer requests etc. Oh and can we have our local currency please, I hate doing transfers in PES Points, it means nothing.

And why can't we have 20 teams in the Master League? 16 is stupid as MS is supposed to mimic Fifa's "career mode".

..and finally defence
I know everyone wants better attacking gameplay (close control, tricks, etc) but I would like better defence too! I think it is too easy to skip past people in Pro Evo I believe because there isn’t a realistic defence system. For example you can’t run backwards (as far as I know) and sometimes defenders just don’t perform instinctive actions when attacking players are near them.

Vida Guerra is not a man. The distinct lack of a penis, bollocks and a beard give it away slightly.

She has one of the sexiest bodies I have ever seen (if you like the female gluteus maximus) and has been modelling since she was a nipper. A girl nipper.

I agree with everything. Some of these I have sort of assumed haven't been present before because of limitation with PS2 etc, like crowds and coaches in dugouts, subs visible etc.

Also, there is actually a "speed when in possession of ball", "Dribble Speed". I think it is a simple scaling stat. If a player has 90 Dribble Speed, he can move with ball about 90% as quickly as without it. Not exactly true since the 95+ stats give exponential improvement, but I think you get the picture. :)

Yeah i agree, I just played NBA live 07 and there, the comentators even talk about individual players and how their season was and what their relation with the press is etc. Almost real although it is more difficult to do that in football.

I thought "dribble speed" determined how fast a player can dribble rather than how fast a player can run whilst dribbling; but I could be wrong. So a player with high dribble speed can turn faster and performs tricks with more speed but they still might not run that fast in a straight line with the ball. I'm not sure about that it's just the way I see it.

Did you know J league Winning Eleven already has 20 teams in the league? It axually depends which league you choose. You pick your time first ofcourse, then choose which league to play in, fully, all the teams included. Wish they include that in WE11 or PES2008.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

I would very much like all the editing you do in Edit Mode to be present online as well so that we can have almost real looking kits there too.

I am going to sorely miss patching WE/PES now that I have a PS3, for me personalising and improving the game was an integral part of the whole WE/PES experience. Hopefully someone will figure out how to get kitserver etc to work on the PS3 and all will be well.

But if not, I hate the fact that you can make a near perfect Chelsea kit in Edit Mode but as soon as you play online you are faced with the awful defualt kits that Konami give us. It would be a nice edition to see the kits the other person has edited too when you play. They could even include the possiblity of copying the opponents kit settings if you think they look better than yours.

And, YES, I am assuming that a lot of teams will NOT be licensed in PES2008. I will be very happy if a lot of teams are licensed but I very much doubt it.

On my PC version kitserver works fine in online mode so I have all the real kits, faces, stadia etc. Although Inter are called "Inter Mailand" for some strange reason and I can't change it...

Yes, but on PS2/PS3 all kits etc are set to default when playing PES6 online. Annoying.

I have a patched version of PES6 with all kits, balls and adboards etc but I cannot use it on my PS3 and my PS2 is now history (sold).

You are partly correct.

You can see the stat as more of a "leg speed" stat. If you have a player with 99 dribble speed, then he will run with the ball as quickly as he runs without the ball. So if he has 95 Acceleration and 95 Speed, he will have those stats also when in possession of the ball.

And also, the Dribble Speed stat also makes the player dribble faster. You can turn faster, and he is much quicker with his feet when turning the ball and such. I am not sure if this aspect is also tied in with SPEED/ACC, or if he will be as quick in turning even if the SPEED/ACC stats are poor like 50/50.

But yeah, it influences lots of things. :)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread

Plus, we 360 owners have been quite dissapointed with PES6, so Konami still has to build momentum with this particular platform or let us in the dust with FIFA.

@Lami: I am also ok if Konami develops for PS3 and then make a port as long as the quality is very much the same. If I knew what I was gonna find in PES6 for the 360, I would have skipped it...

hopefully the new pes we can mod with faces and such if not im sticking to pes 6 and hopefully al the controls will stay same since we have mastered them
