Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread
Do you also want to feel the crunch of a souness stamp on the back of the knee? Now that would make you feel you're in the game...
Hehe. Well, so far I know what it feels like to have a torn meniscus immobilizing the knee joint for a week. I'll pass if you don't mind...
Huh?? what the hell are you talking about.
Limits - they have always existed in game development. All systems have FINITE power for AI, game mechanics, grpahics, sound etc. Games development is not some sort of Willy wonka machine where you wish for it and it comes true!!!!:lmao:
The secret to the best devs, are they know the limits but push the machines to the very limits, by optimising code to distill the gameplay to the very best it can be, and not putting in crap features like rain droplet and mud physics when it is does not enhance the gameplay. These kind of things are just eye candy to make up for the fact that the game is pretty ordinary - exmaple - F1 for Ps3, motorstorm, Pirates of caribbean.
Dude, I think you are taking it to the extreme. Noone wants rain droplet physics or such.
People just focus on different things. Some only care about the gameplay, some might play the game on a 10 year old TV and don't care about the finer details of graphics, some might be playing it on HDTVs and they want to be blown away.
But for yourself for example, and just because I am curious to find out more about your point of view, how far back would you like to go. If KONAMI says they can squeeze another % of performance from the game, but they would need to remove the textures from the stadiums, reducing them go gray structures devoid of any detail. Is it really worth it for you? I'm sure even you have a "line" where you would say "these graphics need improving". And even if your limit is quite modest, then why can't you understand someone who might be more visually absorbed by their games.
Occasionally I'll start the training mode in PES5 and just strike Freekicks for 2 hours. Because it is relaxing and fun. But if you removed all textures and reduced the game to the wireframes, I would get bored out of my mind in minutes. There is so much more, for me, to the game than just the gameplay.
The gameplay has priority 1, if the gameplay isn't there, then the graphicas doesn't matter. But if the gameplay is there, then the graphics and peripheral details will greatly enhance the realism and attraction of the game.
Just look at the sheer size of the edit forums. I'm sure quite alot of users would agree, the visuals greatly enhance the game, and are no small part of the experience of playing a football simulation.
Anyways, just my views. I understand you feel completely different, but I feel you should atleast stop criticizing others for their views. No, rain droplets, mud, and cloth physics don't enhance the gameplay. But if you removed all graphics and textures and left a bare-naked wireframe, that would certainly take away a great deal of attraction from the game. Therefor, the graphics do enhance the gaming experience.
