Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

Excellent response about Zlatan/Adriano twats that win games only because monstrous body balance.

In real life Zlatan can pass 3/4 defenders with his ability and strength. In PES/WE anyone can pass through defenders with Zlatan only using his strength (aka body balance). Is that realism? Nope, it is stupid. I have seen people win games only because Zlatan or Adriano have the red arrow. They are simply UNSTOPPABLE, even if you have Ferdinand or Nesta with red arrows.

I do understand Drogba can do that kind of thing... but Adriano? Zlatan? Please, give me a break. Adriano are more worried about parties and Zlatan is a real good player, but he is not God. It is ridiculous he has a 97 in balance... damn, I understand Drogba, the guy receives a lot of contact and he seems to be made of rock... but Zlatan is not like Drogba...

It is nonsense to see how a player can win a game by himself. That is not football.

The positive thing though is that I have read that PES has a new foot placement system (something I have heard very little of from people, if it is a true statement then that is probably the best thing to happen to PES yet, no more sliding feet!). That might mean that your player will no longer slide away 30cm when an opponent contacts him. But I'll have to see it first. :)

This a seriously darn good explanation

Cheers. ;)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

Trance means, when a player moves each foot physicly plants itself to the playing surface, as opposed to now where the foot "slides" along the pitch, therefore making the animations seem much more life like and hopefully organic.

I read this in an early preview too, one of the many things im looking forward to! :D

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

about the most balanced and measured post here for a while now

Sure. Dont tell me you see that video and dont feel even a trace of disappointment. Its all well and good to say "Ill wait until its clearer", but the fact is that from what i can gather (and I am in no way completing condemning the game from the outset), it looks practically identical - and I have to say that I expected no more from Konami or Seabass. Even the screenshots, with their supposedly 'next-gen' graphics, disappoint me not because it looks 'bad' or unrealistic, but because I know for a fact that there will be gameplay issues upon release, and instead of concentrating on that, Konami has gone and added the 'pub' and 'interview' scenes, which, by the looks of them will be painful to sit through anyway. Anyone waiting for a video that shows an organic, off-rails gameplay engine will be waiting for a long, long time. Unless you visit the FIFA thread, that is.

Someone else noticed. :)

TBH that is the thing I have been looking at the most on the Teaser video from KONAMI, and any small snippet of gameplay. Just staring at the feet all the time. :D

I just make zoom

old news dude........ its from the video that those 2 dutch twats made for that gamessite, what was it called again??? insidegaming or summink like that?

Its a crappy shot of the them pissing around on the 360 version beta and scoring an own goal with their keeper. pricks. what a waste of a beta, they should have given the copy to this forum for preview.

Indeed ;) m8 !!

I fear that about the feet planting into the grass and not skiing. It was about time. But hey, I should be positive about it but don't know, it's like I'm learning to ignore it. I even played Bioshock and felt it was too linear and nothing out of average in terms of graphics (not much better than doom 3 to say something, specially the opponent's models). AI was very bad and generally feels too scripted to my liking. I am getting old?

Nope, just wise to what are basically rehashed games where is the inovation.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

A well-known website from Spain (http://www.meristation.com), has just published a review from the playable demo of PES2008 Konami is showing at the GC. Apparenlty they could only try the 360 version because there were "code problems" with the PS3 version.

This are the more important things of the review (which you can read here: http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_a...e&idj=cw467671a422061&idp=&tipo=art&c=1&pos=0).

-Overall best presentation and menus.
-More music but nothing licensed. All the songs are Konami-made...
-Rosters updated from a week ago (Drenthe and Sneijder still not on Madrid).
-Same licenses as last year (Spain, France, Italy, Holand and then the Others teams).
-Much better commentaries (this could be because the spanish commentators have been changed... they were really bad).
-No tactics updates in the team configuration.
-Really better visuals than last PES6 on Xbox360, specially on faces (really good expressions they say) and player models.
-Better animations (specially on goalkeapers).
-Better 3D fans which seems to follow the match.
-Much better sound atmosphere with better reactions to what's happening on the pitch.
-Better ball physics (it seems that it goes really bouncing on the pitch.
-Pitch texture is still bad.
-5 levels of difficulty
-Some "stutters" and jaggies (will probably be solved for the final version).
-Better player reaction to our orders.
-Teamvision has surprise them on the positive side. They were playing FCB versus Italy and aparently they were distributing good balls with Ronaldinho to Eto'o and Henry until Teamvision put their midfielders on Ronaldinho pressing him all the time... They then try to use Messi on the wings until he was also defended man-to-man... By the way, they say Teamvision only works well in levels 4 and 5.
-They couldn't test the online mode.
-No words about the ML ¿?

Sorry for my english.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

when a player moves each foot physicly plants itself to the playing surface, as opposed to now where the foot "slides" along the pitch, therefore making the animations seem much more life like and hopefully organic.

Although this is the same theory put into practice that has been shown in a few demo shots where the strikers animation can change depending where the ball is.

The feet sliding is a cheap way of CPU cheating. Alot of games do it, but only because the animation needs to be 'feet planted' from the start and will generally need completly re-doing if not done at the begining of the project. Something that doesnt always get done, time is money and all that. It also will have to do with 'collision' a very labour intensive process for the CPU.

One way it is implemented it is hated, the other applauded.

On a side note: All games cheat, all games are scripted, even the best AI is hardly AI at all but a varying degree of complexity of scripts. Most games the programmers do enough to convince you of AI (like other games convincing the player that they are free), its just that most of you have played WE/PES to death and know it too well.

Pretty much confirms that TeamVision is not a whole new AI model, just an extra bit stuck on top of the existing engine. It will be interesting to experience how much it feels like cpu cheats. Given there were still cheats a plenty on level 3 in previous editions of PES, I'm not at all optimistic.

I suppose chances are they limited the TV impact on lower difficulty levels since it would simply be too challenging opposition. I never play on the lower levels though since I want the "full" range of AI intelligence when I'm playing. Obviously this cannot come with AI cheating, I just want them to use their full intelligence to mark players etc. :)

-Pitch texture is still bad.
-Pitch texture is still bad.
-Pitch texture is still bad.
-Pitch texture is still bad.

The only BIG detail that we see 100% of the time, and Seabass still doesn't give a damn about it.
Words cannot express how disappointed I'll be if the final version has bad pitch textures.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

It's sort of like playing Halo or CS with forced auto-aim. Where is the fun and skill?

As usual, you say what I want to hear... :applause:
I really hope Konami listen to you.

I pretend to fail my passes and my shots on my own! :D

Where did you get your mind-reader from??

How do you know "he doesnt give a danm about it"??

Pre-release demo and especially betas, often have last gen textures in, or test textures. There maybe real textures used in the distance and quick textures used in the foreground. Generally games get test textures and models in (faster than having to wait for the real thing), sometimes this can be for months, even a year without having their real models/textures

We dont know how old this demo/beta is or how much time was used bug fixing it. Given the amount of time it takes to produce pre-release demos, I have respect for developers that dont take 2 months out to fix everything in a pre-release demo, making the actual game development 2 months longer, making people wait even longer, just for people not to moan about every detail that isnt 100% done 3 months before its out.

Developers have a hard time, their publishers and backers hardly understand when they get told "this is not complete, but it'll be fixed in a few weeks" so I feel sorry for them producing demos before its done and having to show them to every moany git around the world. More time taken on demos means longer development.

If the pitch was perfect, you'd only moan about something else that seabass "doesnt give a danm about" just because of a magazine comment about a pre-release demo.

Didn't we hear as well that it was possible to edit grass for the stadiums, so maybe, if one of the contacts anybody has, are real,......

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

You guys always hope that if the beta textures are bad, they will be good in the final version. Guess what? They won't be better then.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

for god sake why cant Konami produce grass that looks like grass? No more horrible lined pitches either! they make my eyes bleed when I play! And every pitch doesnt have the same little area thats cut up either!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

Ajaxforever, I am not so sure. The beta IGN used for their preview was 40% finished, so how old were those pictures?!

Talking about the IGN-preview: Did nobody of you wonder why IGN came out with the preview only two days before Leipzig? If they waited just two more days they got even better info to write a preview... Is this bad timing from them, or did they have a source from which they know what Konami will tell at Leipzig? That last case would be worrying as that means all IGN told was what Konami plans to tell. That would be VERY little info...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

All this talk about grass textures takes me back to the days of patching. People were releasing grass patches and everyone was loving them but I thought they looked f¤&¤ing awful. It's often a matter of taste and I have yet to see a third party pitch that has been better than the Konami originals.

I agree that the pitch is an integral part of the game but wait until you see it with your own eyes.

Spot on, 'the grass is always greener on the other(patching) side'.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

Patch :) oh yeah I remember them... shame we can do that on PS360

From TG :"for the camera i don't know, i know just alot of new camera for the replays and two times more long, about the grass i don't know before but from the last playstation magazine you can edit it and the proportion it's like on PES6 360.

Hopefully it'll be the texture

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

We shouldnt worry, we can change the grass textures of the stadiums. Lets wait till tommorow when we finally see the game and hear WENB's unbiased impressions.
:)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 08/18/07)

On the preview posted on GameFAQ's boards he said they are grass and dirt stains on the players. Yay! \\:o/
