Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

Just read fifa 08 has analogue passing

Hossack: In FIFA 08, when you play a through ball, it will play it in the exact direction of your left analog stick angle, instead of automatically passing the ball four or five yards in front of the teammate your are pointing at.

Then, the weight of the pass is determined by the length of your button press. At first, it may seem more difficult to play a through ball, but that is reality - through balls are harder passes to place properly. However, you'll quickly learn that the new system gives you freedom that you've never had before. You can now place your passes exactly where you want them. It's actually really addictive trying to play that perfect through ball, and you get a real buzz when you play that ball that you couldn't have played last year. It's freedom.

The same goes for manual crosses. The left analog stick angle determines the direction of your cross, while the length of the press sets the strength of it. Now, with a little practice, you can place the ball exactly where you want, near post, far post, top of the 18.

Any news on editing yet?

All that we know of is that its has improved. A more in-depth editing mode.

LMAO @ the ps2 preview. After last year when mags and sites were finally starting to be critical it looks as though they are stepping it up a bit this year. About bloody time konami got a general ripping for their total lack of game development.

Im just curious how the nextgen versions will be received.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

so they left out the WE J-League setup for PES2008 on the PS2. Don't quite understand why they would do that!

maybe that really is the pimping for PS3/360/PC version.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

Absolutely necessary changes:

Offline: new Master League, more licenses or ffs give us tons of free teams to edit (so difficult to have empty slots???), smarter more challenging AI.

On line: Lag issues to be fixed, more lobbies, more options (choose team level against your opponent i.e.), more tournaments, and administrator to prevent all the f.ing cheating.

For both modes: manual passing and shooting, 360 movements, better defending, getting rid of bs cutback goals(95%of online goals like this), not scripted ball physics, goly saves and deflections.

So far just a generic team vision that we do not really know how it works.

JB does post good stuff if you read it well enough. I seriously hope it moves nicely too. Less stiff than PES6 would be nice.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

Just had another phone conversation with my "contact". Nothing new gained from it I don't think, but he says that he's had a chance to play on the new beta.

He instantly noticed that the flow of the game has improved a lot (weird that he says "instantly" considering the magazines had three-hour plays before they started to notice improvements, don't quite understand that). Whilst not that much different from PES6, the flow being so smooth makes the game feel a lot easier to control (better reaction times etc.) and it feels a lot better. Slowdown is still there in places but it's almost gone.

He said that a few things haven't changed, that could have done with fixing, so it's one step at a time. Which is annoying. But the flow is apparently so good that you "find yourself forgetting about it".

He also said that there's quite a bit more content, and that the editing suite is "absolutely huge", which sounds promising (at least, if a good way of creating/downloading user patches is uncovered for the console versions).

He originally wasn't looking forward to it because the animations were so fiddly, lasting too long and resulting in running out of play etc. but he says they've tweaked all of that to perfection now. He says the way the game flows has to be seen (as in played) to believe.

Sorry that it's not a lot of info, but I'm just reporting whatever I can get my hands on.

At least he is now more positive. I didn't expect anything else, because all other reviewers now talk about smooth gameplay. So we can regard that as true :)
The absolute huge editing: Is there a stadium editor? :D

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

Sorry JB - is that the PS3 version then? Or the PS2?

Sounds like good news, Jack.

Jack, thx to you and your contact, can't wait to try it myself.

Well thats sounds good.

Especially the bit about the "absolutely huge" editing suite. Maybe Konami might allow us to create extra leagues...like we might be able create maybe 5 to 6 extra leagues, which each contains 20 team slots. Which we can insert into the "pimped" Master League and have a proper league structure. ;)

Now, wouldn't that be nice?

I think there's more chance it means a huge selection of sharks heads from which to choose, and the opportunity to perfect the hairstyle of each shark.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

The J-League game allows players to setup proper leagues. obviously if we can add are own leagues that will be great but if ML is still the same I will be gutted as it will still not allow us to change clubs etc.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

I'll ask him a few things but I doubt he'll be able to answer me - the things he's said, as before, are only the things he's allowed to say, so specifics will probably be covered by the NDA. But I'll get out of him whatever I can. I wouldn't expect that much though Stringer!! ;) I'm expecting ball-editor, complete team and sponsor editor, that kind of thing. But who knows.

He says some things are achingly familiar (and there's certain parts of the game I'm assuming he's referring to from the way he was talking, such as the ML). But then on the other hand he sounded in love with the editing side of things, so... Who knows. I wish he could give more info.

License fiasco

As usual the licenses are miserable. Its fun to see that a few new teams have been added and that, of some reason, us Swedes have got more teams than, for an example, Portugal and Germany. But Konami still got reasons to be criticised about licenses. There are tons of nameless teams in the database which you can make your own teams of, but Konami should really be able to fill them their selves with something more interesting than pure creatures of their fantasies.

Good to hear some positive news. It so important how the game actually feels to play. Others aspects should be worked on too but much of negativity can be washed away if the game is smoother and feels better.

A lot of people focus on the Masterleague. I agree, it's become quite stale. But maybe its time has come and gone and Konami need to replace it with another type of mode? Afterall, without full licenses, it can never be as complete as a Football Manager style simulation with fantastic gameplay? Just a thought; take out the masterleague and replace with a different type of career mode that focuses on individual players, or pimp up online tournament play to massive levels?

Jack, I've taken you off the ignore list now but I still say to people: don't pick on one aspect of the game you don't like from what you've heard and use it to decide the whole thing is doomed/Konami are raping our lives etc

Keep it positive: the game will be good, probably not perfect!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

I think Konami are capable of creating a very good Master League. Look at that PES Management game they brought out last year (which original came out in Japan back in 2005), the content of that game was brilliant! Yes it wasn't normal PES, it was boring sitting scrolling through options and NOT being able to play the game...But the features to that game was sick.

Basically what i'm trying to say is they could easily put all those features into the Master League, create a second division and let the player play the match.

So Konami can do something like that but seems like their being a bit lazy.

Anyways we have wait and see what they've got install for us in PES2008...

Completely agree with everything you have to say, 100%. But bear in mind this isn't me saying the positive things, it's my "contact". I'm sure I'll think it's shite and be back on your ignore list before it's released. ;)

Thing is though, I might be negative, but that doesn't mean I'm an idiot and I ignore all the plus points. I do actually take everything in from the magazines etc., the positives and the negatives. I just barely see the things that matter to me improve. (And before a smartarse says "so gameplay doesn't matter to you", of course it does, but the CPU cheats are what I hate most about the gameplay and I hear nothing about them being eliminated from the game.)

I'm not here to say "the game is shit". I report what I say word for word, I don't put my own spin on it. Despite what people think, I'm not here on some crusade to make people hate PES. I don't care what you play, I hope you have fun with whatever games you choose. I just personally dislike the way the game is going, and simply put I don't have fun with it any more. I had the game on the 360 for a total of around 30 days - had it 10 days after it was first released, sold it, then a few months later bought it back after everyone was raving about it on here, then 20 days later sold it again.

But I know that the game used to be great, and I know the potential for it to be great (to me) is still there, so I'll be bitching every year until the game gets its "fun factor" back.

I'll continue reporting what I can get hold of, and apologies to all those I offend with my bitching in the process. But I do try to make constructive criticism, which I think should earn me some credit.

Thanks again Jack, but please don't use words like 'achingly' towards us poor foreigners ;) It's not in my dictionary. The translation site AltaVista doesn't know the word either

kobashi maybe Konami might be putting the J.League Master League structure in PES2008. Plus with that absolutely huge editing suite magazines are talking about maybe we can create extra leagues and put them in that type of Master League structure.

But this is just me being hopeful...

LOL, sorry. Ache means hurt. In other words, it hurts (as a PES fan) to see that certain things are unchanged.

jack,
not everyone thinks the CPU cheats all the time. And alot of people could care less about the cpu, so your not really taking in the multiplayer point of view. Your assuming the whole game is just a single player expereince, for people like me i play the game %80 in multiplayer, and the cpu doesnt really get to cheat that much in that mode. So if your contact is saying the game is more fluid, then THAT is very positive to a multi player guy.

" I just barely see the things that matter to me improve"

all you care about is single player, but im the opposite, so again your just pontificating on your point of view, not the entire picture.....

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 07/30/07)

all you care about is single player
All you care about is multiplayer.

Does that make me right? Does that make you right?

So you'll be happy with it, I won't be. So I will moan, because I won't be happy with the game. You will be, so good for you.

Seriously, there must be a million people who play PES versus the CPU and the ML. Just because you don't, doesn't make you right. And if you've got nothing to complain about, GREAT! Have fun. But I have, so block me and let me complain until I see the single player experience improved.

I think the TeamVision replace those cheating scripts. At least that would make sense. If they used cheating-scripts they did it to give the CPU more chance.
If TeamVision improves the gameplay that much as Konami wants us to believe, then the cheating scripts now become obsolete....

Then again, did the magazines ever mention the cpu cheating in previous versions? Perhaps they never noticed it so now don't notice it's gone.
