Trance / Dance / House Music Discussion

In response to an earlier post, Lange is these days experimenting more with an electro-progressive trance sound, also known as Bollocks. Marc Et Claude are releasing less, but the last one I heard was diabolical eurodance. I don't think Storm or Electrique Boutique havehad any releases at all in the past few years, which is a shame as I'm a huge fan of Revelation by EB.

Lange makes Tech-Trance, some is still quite "trancey" and uplifting (check out Lange Vs Gareth Emery - Three), Electrique Boutique was pretty much a one off record and one of Storm died a few years ago so thats why they're not releasing stuff!

My opinion on a cracking old trance album is Meltdown 2000, mixed by some unknown DJ, here's a link to the tracklist - CLICK

Also, Total Euphoria, which is my favourite from the Euphoria series, this one is mixed by Dave Pearce, very well mixed too, the old pikelet he is - CLICK

CD1 of Meltdown is quality, one of my favourite trance cd's from when I was younger, never heard anyone mention it before though!!

Dave Pearce's cd's are mixed on the computer (as many are these days) thats why they're so seamless:lol:

On the new trance score, I love Andy Bagguley - Together As One (Michael Dow Remix) at the moment, and Project 6 - Lost

I don't know either of those, I dont really listen to Trance anymore but Micky (Michael) is a mate of mine (I used to go clubbing with him) so its good to hear that his records are doing well!

Dave Pearce is and always has been Rubbish! he mixed at one of our local clubs recently... thats how low down he is! Most Trance and House DJ's ive heard nowadays dont care about the mixing transition... all they care about is playing cheesy tunes to please the Punters... I hate it!

Hey mates!! I know this discussion is almost trance-related, but I need some help with house music here: I recently listened to a electronic-house song of which I don't know either the author or the title.

So I was wondering if someone of you could help me finding it..

the refrain goes something like this:
"one million miles away from home
one million miles away from love
one million times away from hope
one million times away from God"

..here's a small sample I found, hope it will be useful for someone to recognize it..

..thanks in advance to whoever comes up with a result!!

My style tends to be House to Trance or as Judge Jules once did brilliantly in 2000 The otherway around! if you guys like ill upload it for download.

Ok Kleimann when I get home ill upload :) I am seriously thinking about making a site for myself and trying to play out to be honest. I have been mixing for years and using Vinyl decks for just as long. Any advice?

:D you look way more professional than me, I'm looking forward to listen to it..

I only made a few mixes just for fun.. most of them have been made for friends of mine so they're nothing outstanding..
I still use my computer to mix tracks as I don't have any cdj or deck so the only way to mix, for me, is using the good old Virtual DJ :D

maybe I could upload one of my first ones (it's not that good but I'm really attached to it despite it being $hitty mixed dur to the fact it contains some particular songs) or maybe I'll upload the one I'm going to make, having found the song I was looking for to complete it ;)

House is chill out :) I know what you mean though, trance is pure utter energy!!! Well the non cheesy crap is anyway!

Ok seeing as im back in Hagreaves4 form... im still mixing them tunes up. If you guys have any tracks that you would like to Hear on a mix done by me then post them up. In fact I could do an Evo Web's Guide To.... Trance mixed by DJDoc :)

you know there are a lot of tracks I'd like to hear on a mix.. but let me say that "mind of the wonderful" by B&J would be enough if you're talking about trance..
if you talk about house, I'd say anything by Gaudino would do ;)

I use to mix too, sometimes, but I'm not that good I must admit, I do it just for fun.. the most of the times I do it for friends of mine so even if the mixes are not perfect it doesn't matter.

But I'd like you to hear one of the first mixes I made (back in 2005) and to tell me what do you think about it.. it starts with some house songs and ends up with some trance tunes..

This is the tracklist:
01. Depeche mode - Enjoy the silence (Timo Maas rmx)
02. Mylo - Destroy rock'n'roll (Tom Neville rmx)
03. Scissor sisters - Comfortably numb
04. Kodec - Listen to me
05. Spankox - To the club (Highpass mix)
06. Kosheen - All in my head (Planet funk rmx)
07. Alma matris - Circuito
08. Schiller feat. Heppner - Life I feel you
09. Rhythm gangsta - The crowd song (Italian lyrics)
10. Blank & Jones feat. Elles - Mind of the wonderful
11. Dark monks - Insane (Steve Murano rmx)
12. ATB - Long way home (Steve Murano rmx)
13. Faithless - We come 1
14. Paul Oakenfold - Southern sun (Tiesto rmx)
15. Paul Van Dyk - For an angel 98
16. Armin pres. Perpetuous dreamer - The sound of goodbye (B&J rmx)

..and here's the mix itself:
http://rapidshare.com/files/69535103/Summer_2005.zip.html

Well, during some mixed sequences some beats don't match 100% and maybe some of the mixed sequences are not 100% accurate.. but it was the very best I could do at that moment.. let me know if you like it :P

Not bad at all! I was expecting to hear something along the lines of the NON Existant Ministry Of Sound Style Mixing but I was pleasantly suprised. Good solid mix, well controlled beat matching (you didnt lose control of your Records) so very good technical ability on show there.

One thing I will say is you need to Spice up your mixing technique a little bit, express yourself a bit more and dont be afraid to try new things. At times I sample in a little teaser of the next song im going to be bringing in at a random part of the current Track playing which often produces a cool effect.

Your mixing technique is a little basic, its almost Fade the other track up, leave it for 30 - 40 seconds and then bring the other track down which isnt bad to start with (thats how I was back in 2000 when I 1st started doing this shit) but then I learned how to add a bit of drama to your mixes.. Bass Drops outs (Tall Paul is famous for doing those and they sound awesome!) Where as your bringing the new track in the old one will drop its bass often quite suddenly! Also sudden bass swap overs... (not the proper term for this I know) basically one song is currently the center of attention (full bass full volume on the slider) and the other track has Literally no bass on the EQ Turner and is mid volume ish. Then you bring up the other track and at a Phrase Starting (Beat 1)You would change the bass so that the 1st track now has hardly any bass and the 2nd track has "Taken Over" and has more bass... at times this creates an awesome effect if done at the right time.

Hope I havent put you off mate just thought id give you the benefit of my experience :)

I'm glad you liked it, this mix is still one of my favourites.. it could be for some particular songs ("mind of the wonderful" above all others) or just because it has been made in that particular period called "summer of 2005", I don't know why but it's so..

I'd also really like to hear what you can do with the same songs, I'm very curious ;)

and be sure that every advice is taken in consideration, of course..
you have a point, my style of mixing is the simpliest one.. the mix I've shared is a 2005 one and I haven't evolved that much since..
the thing that prevents me from playing with sliders and other things is that I still don't have either a cdj or deck or equalizer.. so I must mix on my pc with mp3s and virtual dj..
and but you know, controlling the cutoff frequences, the crossfader and the bass slider at the same time with one mouse only ain't that easy :P

Ah ok if your using Virtual DJ I can see why you do it basic. Ill give it a go with my PC setup. I use virtual dj plus 2 sound cards hooked up to my external mixer Pioneer DJM500 so ill give this a crack at some stage. Moving house this weekend so it wont be for a little while yet.

:D back.. here's the latest mix I made, as I said above my style hasn't changed that much since 2005 but maybe you'll find some interesting songs in it.

It's the "part #1" of a project I'm trying to get done for the new year's party.. the whole project would consist in 3 mixes, the house mix I'm posting here, a trance one and a commercial one to suit some of my friends' taste

so let's start with some house, I had to cut parts of some tracks in order to be able to burn it on a cd, hope you don't mind :lmao:

So what does everyone think?

Sounds cool.. that's proper house, I tend too much often to define also the electronic music "electronic house" and that's why I defined "house" that mix of mine above.

Anyway, some good tunes in there, I used to love them especially the one by the egg (was my ringtone until I switched to "Destination calabria" in summer 2007, and then to "Let's get down" by Supafly inc a couple of weeks ago). I'm really interested in hearing it, I bet it would be ace :D

So now we'll have a guide to electronic music and a guide to house music.. We miss a dance/trance one then it would be really fun.

PS: is this the kind of music you generally listen to when you go dancing? It's kinda different from the one played here.. I mean, also here they use to play a lot of classics, but they tend to stick to electronic house (like "Rise up" or "Shining star"), at least in the places we usually go..

Hey Doc? what happened to you?

is there still any chance to hear the mix? I'd be really glad to :D
