The TV Show Thread

Haven

I'm a fan of Stephen King, have all of his books and have followed all of his work that has been turned into a TV show or Movie (i.e. aside from the obvious movies I own the Red Rose, Kingdom Hospital, and Dead Zone TV series boxsets).

Overall after the first show I wasn't too impressed. I liked the Colorado Kid book so I'll definitely give the series a few more shows before writing it off completely, but so far nothing about the show has grabbed me and the characters seem a little shallow/annoying compared to the characters in the book.

EDIT: 26/07/2010 - Nope I was right, after watching episodes 1-3 I can say without a shadow of a doubt it sucks. It's really dull and boring.

OZ - Seasons 1-5 (9.5/10)

I've been watching this series in dribs and drabs over the past few years and I finally got around to finishing it last week. Quite possibly one of the most original, gritting and realistic prison dramas ever created. Superb writing and script throughout and a great set of characters. I recommend OZ to all. You'll certainly recognise a bunch of people who cameoed in the series who also starred in other shows such as the Wire, Lost, The Shield and the Sopranos.

Jeremiah - Seasons 1&2 (8/10)

Really enjoyed the show and wish it had made it through to a third season before getting canned. I watched the show over the course of the year, often watching an episode last thing at night. There were some great stories and I thought it showed a good insight into life after an apocalypse situation. I was really impressed with Malcolm Jamal Warner and Luke Perry's acting throughout, they stole the show. If you're looking for another show to follow on and off, I'd recommend this.

Has anyone else watched a few of the new pilots being shown?

Covert Affairs - CIA new recruit story. Watched the first episode and it looks to be pretty good. Epi. 1/3

Rubicon - Government Intelligence agency in NY with a conspiracy. Haven't watched it yet, 1 episode.

Pulse - Hospital thriller from the bbc. 1 epi.

The Glades - Small town cop?

The Gates - Gated community cop thriller.

Watched all but Pulse and Rubicon (have Rubicon ready to watch).

The Glades was the strongest pilot out of them all I'd say, Gates is cheesy but enjoyable and seems interesting, Covert Affairs annoyed me the most so I'll quote my post to tv.com about it:

Not overly impressed at all, not fit to lick Alias' boots but that's not really relevant, thought the pilot was weak, don't like the lead actress, don't find her believable at all in the role, don't find it credible that a CIA inductee walks around half the time with her bra showing, blouse buttons undone and 6" heels, I'm as happy as the next guy to watch attractive women prancing around but this kind of show is hardly the appropriate setting, yet we're supposed to believe that the CIA is filled with young pretty people, even the blinded tech managed to do so without getting any scars to hurt his pretty face (he should have stayed with Ugly Betty, much more believable show).

The pacing of the show was poor and the only thing that created any "ok so I'll watch the next one" was her ex killing the assassin at the end.

Really not sure I'll be able to see past it because it's really clear the show takes itself really seriously despite failing on many levels whereas shows that don't take themselves seriously (Burn Notice, The Good Guys, even Alias to an extent) don't suffer such problems.

Eureka - S3

I had a great time with this 2-part season.
The 1st part is the best, with the 304 being one of the best episode I've seen this year (the Groundhog Day one).
The second part has no real plot, so it's not really interesting all the time but it has a lot of humoristic moments.
Overall, good season, I now can follow season 4 each week :).

The new season of Chuck isn't too far away now :) Less than 2 months anyway.

Did anyone watch Sherlock on BBC? I thought it was brilliant.
Usually I don't like BBC dramas (or ITV, or any other British-produced tv shows) but I thought the advert/trailer for this looked interesting, i'll iPlayer it tomorrow :).

Yeah, it was really good. So far they have scheduled 3 shows. Last nights was 90 mins long, not sure about the other two though! It didn't feel too long though, was nicely paced and some good acting.

Mad Men Season 4

Oh! and anyone who hasnt seen BBC3's Monkey Dust SHOULD - Absolutely Hillarious, it's was on a couple of years ago.... much better then the bollocks they put on now besides Family Guy etc..

Absolutely loved it. I thought it was far better than the film too. I was only planning to watch 15 minutes of it while I ate, but ended up watching the whole thing. It's a little dramatic but its done very well.

OPM
thanks for the heads up about Louie, loved the first one and then watched the rest back to back! Nearly weed at some bits, Ricky Gervais' inappropriate doc was great, and loved the Heckler and 'faggot' ones (well all of them really).
New Mad Men was pretty good too.

Just about to watch Sherlock. I've heard Luther is good as well so got that to watch, what's with the BBC putting out these decent shows lately?!

Last IT Crowd, shame they had Richmond in for a tiny bit at the end, he was great and had some great lines, they had episode 1 of the 2nd series on More 4 at the same time, still the best and one of the funniest things I've seen on TV...

Not sure if they will do another series... :(
