The Retro-PES Corner

For me, what I have never understood, even to this day, is how PES reached its absolute peak in terms of quality. I’m referring to the PS2 and Xbox 360 generation.
Winning Eleven 2008, especially the J.League version, came very close to perfection.
Fluid gameplay. Challenging CPU. Several game modes. Dozens of stadiums. Rain, snow — everything was there.

When I saw PES 2008 and 2009 on the next-gen platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, and PC), I honestly thought they were some of the worst things I had ever seen.
The player models were bizarre, with huge shorts that made the players look like surfers, and the 360-degree body turns were completely awkward and unnatural. It is almost unbelievable that Konami managed to produce something of such poor quality after having reached such a high standard.

That version, which was released exclusively for the Xbox 360, is the one Konami should have continued using and building upon.

And that is exactly what happened: the essence of the past never came back.
That is why we are still playing these games to this day, whether through emulators or on the original console hardware.

Do you know what happened in 2007 and 2008?
I switched to FIFA. That was when I became a deserter. :D
I had never, ever played FIFA before, but on PC, I actually enjoyed it because it offered a more realistic Career Mode, the possibility of using mods, and gameplay that had improved considerably — even copying Konami’s exact control scheme.

The interesting thing is that I never owned an Xbox console, so I only know the Xbox versions of PES through YouTube.
Back in mid-2007, that version looked like the basic foundation that everyone expected Konami to further develop and refine for the next generation.

I think graphically actually that technology can give its best only just on replay and players faces and for sure not on pes2 era games models...
Anyway DLLS5 its a vampire of resource if you want play at same resolution of you play normally a modern game... you should set any game you want to test to half of resolution of your monitor and enable inside your nvidia control panel the relative percentage to upscaling for your monitor resolution.. DLSS for nvidia as like FSR fidelity for amd, are, before each other features, two "upscaling tecnologies"

NOTE: fake preview face for clicks of that video (not PS2 era game)

I'm sure it's great for PS4 era until today, PS3/X360 era, perhaps. But I don't understand using such technology for older games. Can people not just enjoy the visuals of the time? Everything just has to be realistic...

I don't see big difference between PES 2008 and this Xbox 360 in term of gameplay. I would say PES 2009 has better gameplay than the WE 2007 Xbox 360.

Seriously, my friend, you really can’t see the difference? Maybe you didn’t understand exactly what I’m referring to. Let me explain it in detail, so pay close attention.
In the PS1 and PS2 versions, the player’s movement—especially when making 360-degree turns—is much more natural.
That was not the case on PS3/Xbox 360/PC (PES 2008 to 2010). The player’s turning transition is awkward and unnatural; it feels as if the movement is restricted to the eight directions. The player even makes a noticeable movement with his arms.

You can see this clearly in the image below:
You are simply controlling the player and, when you turn, changing his position. The player ALWAYS performs an automatic movement (similar to pressing Square + X), making a kind of sideways cut to adjust his body toward the desired direction in order to complete the play.

Obs.: You are simply moving the player to the side to turn, but the player performs this movement with his arms spread out, as if he were constrained by an eight-direction movement system.
And this happens throughout the entire gameplay, which, personally, I find quite unpleasant.

It is worth remembering that Konami only fixed this issue in PES 2012. That was when Konami began highlighting Player ID and full 360-degree transitions in the trailer.

I, too, hated with a passion this kind of turn since when it was introduced, it was flat out broken and allowed for too easy dribbles, but to be fair (always talking "next gen" editions) it's only this strong and awful in Pes 2009, where an imho very bad game design decision made EVERY player had it instead of normal turns of directions, even the slowest and less technical d2 goalkeeper; in 08 and 10 it unlocked only on the best/fastest dribblers as it also was on PS2 from WE10 onwards (think Henry or Dinho).

2010 in pc/ps3/x360 to me seems way better than the ps2 or psp version, j league 2010 wasnt that good
Never played it on PS3. I got a PS3 later on. Before that I had a Wii (Great PES games).
The only reason I bought a PS3 was so pesfan (konami official pes forum at the time) would take my goal of the month entry seriously. Which I ended up winning. Still thought the Wii games were more fun than the PS3 games though. I think it was PES 2011 or something like that the one I played on PS3 and I remember everyone complaining about the speed merchant ability 😂

I don't like your 2008 Club Championship patch because the team emblems looks horrible the way you stylized them, sorry.

Feedback is always good but there is a difference between expressing the fact that you don't personally like the way he stylized the emblems and say they "look horrible". It's just a matter of taste.

Personally, I've never be happy (even back in the days) with the OFs I could find. Instead of critizicing what the authors did, I just did my own and then shared it thinking others players were maybe looking for the same type of OF as I did.

And don't forget everyone here is editing as a hobby and happy to share their work. People here mostly edit for their own use and share it. So if the emblems are stylized like that, it's probably because the author of the patch likes it and there is no point saying they "look horrible" because of their style.

Okay, apologies. It's a bad habit of mine to be very blunt to put it best. I do understand the work modders put into these games so that was distasteful on my part. I decided to delete my post instead of editing. I'll rephrase my inquiries since I have more I should have asked about regarding tools/programs I could possible use in an attempt to do some modding of my own.

@Aquarian Angel , it's fine to share feedback imho. And maybe the modder will share your opinion and adapt accordingly.

Else, I'm sure if you ask you could indeed by
E guided on how to adapt.

And welcome here, you'll that this site is great if you enjoy retro PES !

Creating a kitserver is a lot more complicated. Easiest way would be to do what marqisspes6 suggested - relinking the kits for Eredivisie.

When I release my updated version you can use that kitserver and try to see if it works for your project.
Did you ever release a patch of 2007 Club Championship that swaps out Eredivisie for Bundesliga as well as putting Juventus into Serie A. I know you usually point to your 2008 Club Championship patch as the better one to get, but I am more fond of your 2007 as well as generally speaking personally. Do you or anyone know where I can find 2007 Club Championship with Bundesliga modded in? At the moment, I am technically playing Wendetta's patch cause Juventus is in Serie A along with Napoli and Genoa. However I had to put your english text into it to replace the italian text as well as transferring the official emblems you coded into your version since Wendetta retains the default/fake emblems. I did replace some "Other League A" teams for 4 custom Bundesliga teams to compensate but I'd rather just swap the entire Eredivisie league for Bundesliga and but the big 3 Dutch teams in "Other League A". The 4 Bundesliga teams I swapped in are Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin and RB Leipzig. Union was chosen to have them use the Oympiastadion stadium while Leipzig were chosen cause it was convenient to just edit your RB Salzburg emblem for them. Dortmund have the easiest emblem to create from scratch in game but for Leverkusen, I created an emblem that resembles one of their retro emblems cause their current one is a bit too tricky. I replaced Salzburg, Panathinaikos, Sparta Prague and Besiktas with the German teams. I put the 4 teams I replaced into "Other League C" using the "All Star" team slots since I distributed the All-Star players into clubs they played for.

If it's too much of a hassle for you or anyone here then I would like a list of tools/programs that could help me do the modding myself if possible. I could just get a regular PES 6 patch since there is no shortage of those but 2007 Club Championship has a much better Master League mode to me even if it's not fully customizable like the mainline PES 6 game. I would also like permission to mod your 2007 Club Championship patch since it conveniently has many elements I need/want as is. Please and thank you.
