The Retro-PES Corner

Right now, there's a lot of hype over a game called Heatwarped. And from what I've seen and heard, it seems to be very similar to (if not a copy of) Need for Speed Underground 2.

And I started to wonder, could someone not do something similar for PES? A modern-day version of PES 5/6? Fake players, teams, kits, stadiums, but a copy of the gameplay, perhaps slightly tweaked to add modern features like 360 dribbling and fully manual control, as well as extra animations. I came across a video this morning showing a game called Forever Eleven, which looks like an ISS Pro Evo clone, but in the modern day.

We have patches and mods, of course. But so does NFSU2, as far as I know. This is a separate entity modern-day version. Not sure how it would work, honestly. But surely there's room for such a game

Haven't you consider start making one? nowadays making a game its not that hard as 5 years ago, there's lot of open source tools that allow you to do that, such as godot, blender, etc and you do have some good graphical skills from what i remember (or maybe im wrong), even making it open source might get some interest of different people and could lead into a good working team :)

My skills are vastly overrated in truth, and my technical knowhow isn't very high. Plus, my laptop is very weak in the list of different levels.

I have considered making my own PES 6 patch, but even then, my ADHD mixed with severe procrastination wouldn't allow it to get finished, so I don't bother to even start it

my friend godot its the smallest game engine ever, and the knowhow doesnt really needs you to know how to code like a pro, there's tons of tutorials for that engine actually, and I do understand the procastination part, I'm working on a game (not football) and I tends to happen a lot, but there's always progress and that's good give it a shot! you'll get surprise :)

I seen the video, I think is a pes 2021 video with graphic changed with AI... or something similar... (numbers on players shirts changes reverting them during the movements)

I Think is a video for click bat

No, actually the creator is in here and explain he's been working on it for a long time, also it doesnt look at all to pes2021 on the engine part

Hi all,

My favourite PES/WE are :
- Winning Eleven 2008 (PS2)
- PES 5 (PS2/PC)

But recently I re-discovered a game I enjoyed a lot back in the days : PES 2009 (PS3).

It's for me kind of PES/WE 2008 (PS2) on "next-gen" from a gameplay point of view.

It's like classic gameplay in HD.

I just feel that the physics do not serve the gameplay like PES 5 or 2008, but still it's quite satisfying.

What do you think about that one ?

I remember playing PES 2009 PC version, wich I believe is really similar to PS3 version? This to this day is the PES version I believe I played the most hours in. I enjoyed it really much, but I remember something about it having some kind of turning 90degrees animation that I really despised, because it was really easy to loose opositions defender that way, which made the game too easy.

Hi, I'm writting this with few to none hope. I'm getting entrilled in PES Management from PS2 and was trying to find any digital archive of the user manual, to no avail. Is it really lost media?

2nd is that I'm trying to figure out how to set up a good defensive line, since using the advice function is most of the time a 50/50 of conceding 3 goals or being a freaking wall.

This is my best attempt of recreating the False 9 4-3-3, used PES 2012 PS2 Barça attacking lines as base and worked from there.

I wondered if the manual goes in more detail about the tactic options and how to manage them. If you have the game and could digitalize the manual, it would be quite literally the only one online as far as I could research in google.

Have a good day <3

I have tried it a number of times, and recently i tried an updated PS2 ISO file on my Xbox but to me something feels off. I find the pitch feels narrow, there are hardly any fouls. I also have to disagree with you about the AI as I find it too easy to win possession back.

It’s a shame really because of the licences :(

I.tried today PES 2014 on PSP as PES 2008 on PSP can have some slowness in situations where there are lots of players on screen.

NB : on emulation it can be mitigated by setting CPU speed to 333 though.

AI isn't bad and quite challenging. But the physics seem different compared to 2008 as well as the physicality of the players. 2014 does not shine as 2008.

Also, dribbling is also much different, with the ball more "stuck" but on PSP it's not a bad thing with the simplified controls of the PSP (without trigger buttons and then without access to R2 like on PS2).

On PS2, there is no discussion to me. PES 2008 > 2014 gameplay-wise but on PSP, 2014 is a good alternative with the more limited controls.

NB 2 : on PSP, the hidden / classic ML bug is not present on PES 2008. ;-)

For me :
- On PS2, PES WE 2008 wins over 2014
- On PSP real hardware, I'd go with 2014 because the slowliness is so annoying and because the dribbling system of 2014 is well adapted to the platform
- On PSP emulation, I don't know which I prefer. I still think PES 2014 is the good choice hère because of the simplified controls.

Yes! I completely get where you are coming from. I had mentioned this a couple of months back, but the dribbling changed from 2010 onwards. They now keep the ball closer to their feet and are slower in terms of feet movement when running and dribbling at the same time which gives them greater close control at most times. To be honest it can be seen both ways in my opinion.

Some people prefer the older dribbling style of PES5/6 and before as you can lose control more easily when sprinting and dribbling, but also the newer dribbling method feels more realistic at times because you don't suddenly lose control of the ball as if the player is a Sunday League amateur and not a professional footballer! As a result the defence feels more fair in terms of interceptions and its not now down to the player suddenly kicking the ball 10 feet ahead of him for no reason!

To be clear Winning Eleven/PES 2010 and all the later titles up to PES 2014 use the newer dribbling style on PS2, but J.League Winning Eleven 2010 looks to have kept the older PES5/6 dribbling style.

Regardless whichever game you prefer of the PS2/Wii era, they are a million miles better than anything released on modern consoles!

Having compared 2008 and 2014 on PSP made me rethink about your post I remembered where you said that 2009-2014 had the easier dribbling system but all JL until 2010 kept the 2008 one.

I think the reason is that 2008 is the last PES that has been thought for the PS2. 2009-2014 were thought for the PSP and their dribbling system was to compensate the limited controls (ex. lack of R2) and ported as-is on PS2.

JL were still thought for PS2 and then kept the original dribbling system as they did not have the PSP constraints.

Yeah with a GGS and a map it's quite easy to replace the ground texture. I sort of agree with him regarding the pitch (i just want to change the, i think, South Africa pitch with all those line looking like a big plantation, that one is selected randomly too often on 2008 version)
But let's keep respect regarding the patch owner choice ;) then between us if someone release something, he won't disagree if you mod his thing : we try to do the best for us and all sort of taste.

Same to me from PES 5 to 2008 they're pretty unplayble (as the port was PS2 > PSP) but after those one, ports regarding PSP with small touch dribbling for a better view of what you're doing and a smaller pitch too fits better for an Handheld. The gameplay was then PSP > PS2 from the 2009 to the 2014 : they really looks optimised on it.

Fifa did the same, FIFA 10 was the first introducing 360 degree movement, World Cup 2010 for exemple on PSP (Fifa 10 wasn't in my pack of PSP games) got also that feature.... But not a single PS2 version have changed after the 07, all got 8 direction and no new adds at all.
The 2010 PSP version is almost as good as his big brother version, i was truely WOW the first time i tried it... It makes me think that i don't own on PSP games Fifa 11 to 14 : i wonder if they added tactical defending etc.

I mean for PC. I know of this one you sent, but unfortunately It's really poor quality and lots of bugs... That's why I am looking for something better. But thanks!
maybe an occasion for you to release your own work... with a new fixed version... the editing forum section is full of tools and thread to learn how to... ;)

Yes the sidestep forcing is what i'm pointing on all 2005 versions but doesn't seems to bores people, you can't do a simple 90 degree movement.
On others versions you can do it with R2.
Now about WE9LE we already got a long debate or many small ones, i don't play it for X reasons (he got better ball physics but not better players physics and pressing system : to me/us who don't play that version it's a bit too close to PES 6 which is my nemesis lol.

And if i should compare the top of the top i will always take JLWE2008cc, WE2008 is funnier to play than a PES 5 due to outcomes multiplication (i repeat but at least to me) but less balanced, while the other is funnier AND balanced, WE2008 got the same goals average and players miss more + keepers are super strong, there's a lot of occasions on it in comparison to hiq JL brother... But on the final, results are the same.

All games we mention are balanced regarding scores (except PES 6), now it depends the method used to keep the final score balance. That's the most important thing and what it makes us understand why some people will love one version and not so much the other even if it's our favourite, preferences and taste on the final... All version are "Action-Football" on PS2.
Even if objectively one game is let's say more "outcominger" (lol) than the other like you said with WE 2008 got more outcomes as there's more algorithms on it and also animations, on the final all versions are good and balanced.

As you know, I'm currently editing PES 5 and while I'm editing it, I've restarted to play (and enjoy it).

And as I was looking for comparisons and opinions of these games, I came across your post.

2008 and 5 have 2 different approaches.

I see what you mean with the fact that WE 2008 feels less repetitive than PES 5 and I think it's because PES 5 has put a lot of focus on being consistent where PES / WE 2008 put the focus on being fun. WE 2008 is also a great representation of football, don't get me wrong, but the focus switched in my opinion.

I once read that on PES 5, the player with more skills will usually win where in PES / WE 2008, it's not a given. I mean, a player with more skills will often win but not as often as on PES 5. And I think it's true. PES 5 is more competitive.

It's like if PES 5 has been thought as a "pure" simulator and 2008 more as a "fun" simulator. So I get what you meant in your text here above.

After mostly playing 2008, it was refreshing to go back to PES 5 I've to say. But then again, relaunching a WE 2008 game is enough to remember why this one has been my favourite game since I started to play it on 2007 : it's fun and still a good representation of football (for instance PES 6 was fun but imho a worse representation of football).

Now which one I prefer ? Honestly, I like both but the fact that PES 5 is a more finished product (no ML bug), Bundesliga instead of the infamous "other league c" plays in its favor.

Hi everyone!
Does anyone have a patch for WE7I on PS2 based on the 2004–05 season? I’ve searched through the whole forum but couldn’t find anything close.
I found one patch by The Wolf, but it seems to be unavailable anywhere. The author is also here on the forum, but unfortunately he hasn’t replied.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do you search only for WE7I USA version or also japanese version could be good for you?

this patch is for WE7I jap (most likely it has a different game-play style):

World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 International Original Season 2004-2005 - HCK Edition [ PS2 ]...

Maybe you could convert it quite easily for WE7I USA version (if you prefere its gameplay style) with the right tools, like "game graphic studio" etc...

Thank you, I already tried it, but unfortunately this patch doesn’t have any changes from the original ISO. Even the kits are from the original WE7int.
Right now I’ve found only one patch for the 2004–2005 season (https://evoweb.uk/threads/ps2-we7-we7i-ps2-archive.100346/post-4193278), but sadly, the rosters are only updated to August 2004. Ibra, Cannavaro and Emerson are still not in Juve, although some players who transferred to Juve at the beginning of the transfer window are already there.

That’s why I’m looking for the Wolf Patch. In the notes, Wolf said that the transfer market was closed and every transfer was completed.

Yesterday I tried editing this version myself with WEditor. I transferred a few players to Juve, and in the game’s Modify Player section the transfers were shown correctly. But when I actually played a match, the old squad was still there.

I just seen this video loaded recently:

Winning Eleven 7 International PS2 %100 Patched Licensed Kits - %100 English

the link to download it from its description is this...

use mymc to import option file on ps2 memory card ( on pcsx2 )

NOTE:
@TheWolf is coming soon with a new patch for PES6 PC and Season 2026/2027. Maybe it can read your message now and help you to have its old patch for PS2 WE7I 2004-2005

A patch tribute wendetta. The kits of the national teams correspond to before the Euro 2004 except France, Germany and Japan, who had been playing with new adidas kits since the end of 2003. The launch date of the game in February of that years and 2003-04 teams, world patch port from pc to ps2, a tribute patch wendetta database

Optional and necessary: option file I correct some all faces and wrong names

The game comes in your favorite language but you must change the language to the Japanese audio so that all the content of the patch is seen the same as the original Wendetta game
Would anyone mind reupload this ISO? This link is dead. Many thanks!
