The Retro-PES Corner

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question, but is there any way to edit PES 5 or WE9 game files in ISO format? I mean, to edit the camera angles and game speeds, etc.? thanks

Love that game. I remember there was a bug that you could score from a center of the pitch lol
I will remain ignorant to that. I wouldn't use it even if I knew. Ruins the fun exploiting a game bug.

There's bugs who can be exploited but non affecting the gameplay, and some others that, more than enough, is affecting it to the point i can't play those games.

-ISS Deluxe : There's a bug we're you can use the long pass button when you're on the circle of the pitch (often at launch when you start a match the guy will use it until you abandon) > Avoidable because you can at least contains yourself to do it, it's not something natural. So i still can plays it. Then, there's a gameplay patch who's changing all of those "easy" stuffs called "ISSD+", compatible with the "30th anniversary patch/Real names" so what more could you want?

-Iss Pro Evo 2/WE 2002 : The other bug is the One-two way too easy. It's to me much more annoying when you can't use it because the devs miscalibred it > Very annoying and killing litterally one big part of the game (as there wasn't tons of combination except that one) so personnally, i don't play those one just for that. And there's no patch for it : they made tons of graphical patch and all type of stuff making an online tournament since +-2005, but they never through that it would be a good thing to fix it? Slowing down the second pass or the first? Probably impossible or they like not using something which is the only advanced feature on that game regarding gameplay direct tactical things.

On ISS PRO 98 and WE3FE, but also on Iss Pro Evo 1 : that bug doesn't exist and it's almost 3 times rarer to won a One-Two.

Now i don't like that much the overall flow and very long response time of that version so i prefers to play ISS PRO 98 (US for the framerates) and sometimes WE3FE but that game is a bit... Unknown to me, i'm a bit lost with that new camera angle they've added lol.

This is the US version. It's N64 US rom.
ISS Pro 98 is on the PS1.

En sevilen PES oyunları hakkındaki tüm bu konuşmalar beni düşündürüyor.

Sizlere bir sorum var.:)

Şu anda en çok oynadığınız PES oyunu hangisi ve neden?
For a long time, I played Round Robin, Konami Cup, and Master League modes on my PS2 across various titles, ranging from WE5FE to PES 2008. I noticed that the AI in PES 3, WE8LE, and PES 2008 was frequently praised; however, strangely enough, another game caught my attention regarding difficulty: PES 2. I don't know the reason, but the AI gave me a really hard time and scored more goals against me compared to the other games; the title race went right down to the final week. Although the highly acclaimed PES 2008 was challenging, its defensive aspect felt neglected defenders would make odd movements, and I even had matches where I won 7-0. While I consider JLWE9 the best in terms of gameplay and physics, my definitive choice is certainly PES 2. I am curious to hear what others have to say about PES 2. I continue to play PES 2 and plan to write about the points that stand out to me. For instance, in WE6FE—touted as the superior version—you could tear opponents apart with Montella, Totti, and Batistuta and sweep the top three spots on the top scorers' list, whereas such a scenario seems impossible in PES 2.

Yes just from that YT pic i recognised it lol, i never get deeper than some games with a friend owning ISS64 if i remember well, just as he mentionned the "stuffs always working", i simply reacted to that.

I'm not a fan of those ISS from KCEO, But i got, well still like the PS2 version (especially ISS 3 : i even remember than the PC version was shit for i don't have a clue reason).
PS1 version of ISS 2000 on N64 was renamed "ISS" as it was the one one on that console. ISS 64 (of course) and ISS 98 wasn't on PS1. Of course there's a 98 version i mentionned, but they added with PRO adjective on the name as it was a different game and the sequel of tne very first ISS PRO. I know i'm not learning you anything but i noticed the famous "PRO" added way later.

It's a bit sad that they never created a KCET game on N64 : to me that's what's the console is missing the most. I never get why they didn't make that version. It's true that the controls were fit exactly for the Playstation with their 4 triggers all useful for something.

Hi everyone! I just got a copy of PES 2011 for the European PS3. How can I install DLC? I know the official store is down. But how do I do that?

I really like WE6FE, but except the models and transfers, the balance was more joga bonito than PES 2, which was already more easy to control/which is not a default but a particularity than PES1/WE5FE.
Now, my real crush was WE5FE, and i remember felt a bit disappointed the first time i tried PES 2 it was easier globally and felt more like a "normal" football game again in comparison to what i played since ISS Pro Evo.

But the ball physics got also more variety and outcomes with the same engine, before they came with a brand new one for WE7.

PES 2 was less rigid than PES or WE5FE, it was the same engine, but way easier to score from long distance. I take those two a bit apart in the series, i can't rank them. But it's two pretty fun versions. Now, saying that the GC version was better... Perhaps graphically it's a bit obvious as the GC was easier to program with some dedicated chip. But in terms of gameplay : to me it's totally placebo due to the different pad i suppose.

You need to jailbreak your PS3 (so in other terms, use another OS a bit like a chip to read every ISO and mods : in other terms) that's the only way.
Then there's a guy on twitter who shares old DLC as they're unaivailable anymore on the store since years.
Check by yourself, on my case someone did it for me first, than i learned how to upgrade yourself your PS3 with new version of Jailbreak O.S. available.

(Mine is under 4.93 Evilnat version for people who knows what that means.)

The first time I played the N64 games I thought the control was not as good as PS1 because I was used to the PS1 controller and PS2 controller. After ISS years and years of different PES used the same control so it's difficult to go to the N64 controller again. However, once you play it and keep playing it you're able to change the muscle memory and the N64 controls for ISS are superb. The curl located on the Z trigger is a joy to use. I understand it's very difficult to completely change the way that you're used to playing though. I'm not saying the N64 games are the greatest ISS/PES/WE games ever because they're not but sometimes I just want to have a bit of arcade style fun and a chill experience. I think the N64 games deliver in that regard.

Yes i don't say the opposite, i owned once an N64 that someone gived to me, and i still got for emulation a perfect reproduction of that control which is like you said : a joy to use especially on certain type of games.
It's a weird thing that we talk about those version as i retried it not so long ago, but i couldn't really find my marks regarding the gameplay, i even tried the similar ISS out on PS1 after that but it's just that i don't get the way to play, it's not a matter of muscle brain but more a matter of... Brain alone lol.

I got a bit hard with input and way to play/pass/dribble as i feel it not bad, but weird to assimilate lol. The + i really like is the players models and cam changes, arrows everywhere i like as it makes the game more "living arcade".
I will retry it of course, with the N64 controller as the game was made to play with it even if there's a later PS1 version but with a bit more application from my part.

Got less that issue with the PS2 version, and both old/less older version got 360 degree movements that's something i really like on it. And it was thanks to the N64 controller when i don't even know if the first Dualshock with the analog stick were out when the first version, ISS64 was out.

Another jankey phone video from ISS98 N64.
This time it's the legendary "Neller"

I don't know the reason, but the AI gave me a really hard time and scored more goals against me compared to the other games;

I am sincerely want to say thanks from the bottom of my heart to those developers, who can in their games (do not matter how old graphics in game or how weak was standard pc at time of release) - they can "catch feeling of soccer inside" and you are "feeling almost real emotions", when you are scoring "hardly-earned goal" or even miss goal from AI-opponent, but at the same time can see "how elegantly this combination was made, how ball was delivered to your own net with strategic decisions or powerful shot."

P.S. That's was exactly one of main reason why I am started to interesting PES games instead of FIFA.
It was a very cool experience, when you are see almost real soccer, catched in smallest details and simulator, that give you bright, good and sincere emotions from playing.

Yes, you're correct.
I tested every PES and WE version on the PS2, literally every single one (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, all of them), because I needed the correct difficulty codes for my PES 2013 PS2 patch, and PES 2 helped me a lot.

PES 2 on the PS2 is a real gem when it comes to CPU difficulty. It's completely different from the newer versions. The AI is incredibly strong, you have to fight for every goal and every win. In fact, PES 2 on the PS2 is the main reason I wanted to create a harder AI for the newer PS2 PES games.

PES 3 also has a good CPU, but it's not as difficult as PES 2. Once PES 4 was released, and in every version after that, the CPU difficulty declined significantly.

Played PES 3 WEndetta PS2 patched iso and man I'm liking this game too. I almost don't even find any other footie games entertaining anymore. PES 3 and WE6FE (Gamecube) are it for me.

WE7i (Japanese version) is an improved version of PES 3. You should play it

I’ve found PES3 is super responsive - last second cuts to beat a defender or tap ins to beat a goalie, no problem. This is where I struggle with modern games - you need to queue up your action a second or two in advance and hope it executes at the right time. Also, you can really belt in some outside shots in PES3 which is just good plain fun.

I have Billy Kongs one....I find PES 3/WE6FE better.
Fair enough, PES 3 is also great.
I'm a big fan of WE6FE too. I like paying the PS2 version though because of the patches. If it's vanilla then visually the GameCube version looks better but it does suffer from occasional stutter so it's always a mystery when people say the GameCube version is better. Perhaps they mean the graphics.

I'd like to share them with you, fans of the great versions that marked our childhood. Here we go...
Nowadays, it's amazing how much AI has evolved and become accessible in our lives. I'm blown away restoring old family photos.

So I thought: Will it ever be possible to generate a prompt for AI to remaster the Konami versions? Working directly on the ISO. I feel it will be possible. I believe AI will make many dreams we've always had come true.

Below is an idea of how Winning Eleven 10 would look. In 4K, modern, but keeping its structure.
Obs.: Ignore proportion errors, just consider the colors, lighting, and texture. How beautiful everything would look, huh?

The idea behind the post is reflective.Konami is unlikely to care about developing remastered versions. But perhaps we ourselves (as a community) will do it, using advanced AI tools that could go far beyond what we imagined.

Are you talking about PS2 version?

2008's AI is great offensively but 0-0 matches were almost non existent, it felt like in every game there would be goals.

i think thats why i recently play more of PES3, the AI is good, wish it would a little more varied but still, its good and one match i can win 3-1 and the next lose 3-0.

At this point, play PES 2021 or Football Life on PC with a good game-play mod that can enjoy you...

one of my "Back To The Past" game-plays mods for Football Life/PES2021

"Back To The Past- Winning Eleven 8 Liveware Evolution" game-play for PES 2021 and Football Life:

WE8LE original PS2 version game-play:

"Back To Te Past: WE8LE" game-play ported on Football Life 2026 (pes2021 core)

A remastered version like that, built on that old PS2 graphics engine, could never run on a PS2... Even the ISO would probably be too large for the DVD anyway, due to the textures and resolutions of a modern game.

You can definitely remaster old engine PES series, you just need a lot of time and effort.

For example, the two pictures below are from the exact same game: PES 2013 (PS2 version).
The same stadium, the same teams, the same game settings, the same kits, the same ball, yet the visual difference is huge.
