So after much asking and searching around, and uninstalling XBSX2 and reinstalling it.
I have finally found out what was causing the slow down. It was the commentating! Even though I do not listen to the commentating, by chance I realised that I had the commentating set to 1 star (the lowest frequency setting). And even though I had the commentary volume turned down to zero it was still affecting it. So I turned the frequency to off and now it has stopped slowing down. That explains why it was only happening in the penalty area, because the commentator would have been getting excited even though the volume was on zero.
Admittedly it still happens slightly after a goal, a foul, or half time and full time whistle, but at least it does not happen when I am actually playing the match.

the commentary causes substantially heavy I/O since it constantly is grabbing random files from the disc on the fly and loading them. that said, I'm kind of surprised it would bog down the emulatorWouldn't have expected the audio to do that!

I continue to work on my WE 2008 (PS2) OF. See here.
I'm working on a unlocked file (so that I can transfer players from the shop etc).
But afterwards (once it's done), I'd like to re-lock everything.
The editor I use from @marqisspes6 is great and he improved several times to help me. I can't praise enough how helpful he has been !
However, it does not have the lock/unlock shop feature.
Maybe it can be done using a cheat code in PCSX2 or via an Hex editor ?
Here, I've attached an original WE 2008 OF in both versions, locked and unlocked if it can help.
FYI, in order to have a fully unlocked file, I've used a cheat code to max-out the WEN points, bought everything in the shops and then reset the WEN count to zero.
it is not a patch afaik , just the game running on low settings (when you set everything on low via loadcfg)First post ever!
Just came across this really old video in youtube. Is anyone at any rate aware of this patch? It makes the PES6 players look like they're in the PS1 and it's something I'm amazed at and that makes me want to have a crack to it too.

I had a similar conversation regarding doing a Universal Master League save so that I can update a separate Option File with the transfers made in my current ML but also update the stats too. Obviously it would be impossible for me to update the stats of every player, so I asked Chat if it can read an exported csv file and make realistic changes for me. This is how the conversation went:

Thanks! I see you’ve uploaded a .numbers file (Apple Numbers format), which isn’t directly readable in my current environment. If you could export it as a CSV file from Numbers, that would allow me to read and manipulate the data properly.

Once I have the CSV version, I can go through the data, identify the structure, and begin applying stat adjustments based on age or any other rules you’d like. Can you give that a go?
- Open the file in Numbers.
- Go to File > Export To > CSV.
- Save and upload the CSV file here.
Got it — the file loaded perfectly, and I can see the structure. It includes:
- Basic player info (ID, name, nationality, age, foot, etc.)
- Stat categories across ~160 columns
- Some duplicate or suffixed columns (like OUTSIDE.1, MARKING.1) that may be artifacts from export or prior edits
Next Steps
To proceed with adjusting stats manually (e.g. aging effects), I just need a few decisions from you:
Perfect — we’ll go with the Age-Based Potential Curve approach you referenced.
- Which stats should be adjusted? For example:
SPEED, STAMINA, PASS ACCURACY, DRIBBLING, etc.
(Let me know the exact column names or general stat types.)- Age thresholds and their effects — do you want to follow this kind of rule?
- Age 16–21: +2 to key stats
- Age 22–25: +1
- Age 26–29: 0
- Age 30–32: -1
- Age 33+: -2 to -4 depending on stat
- Should the adjustments:
- Affect all players?
- Or only those with a certain status (like active/free agents/retired/etc., if that’s included)?
To begin, I’ll apply this general rule across the entire database:

How are you planning to work around the contract off bug? I always seem to get the 1 point wage 'demand' at the end of the season.
