The Retro-PES Corner

Hey everyone, it has been a while since I last posted. Hope you are all keeping well.

I have been finding it difficult trying to sift through pages of forums to find ISOs and option files. Right now I am looking for a decent option file for PES 2008 on the PS2, PAL version. I will be using it on original hardware with the disc.

Ideally I am after something simple that covers the basics like real kits, proper team emblems, proper league logos, correct player names, correct stadium names, summer and January transfers for 07/08 season, euro 2008 squads, etc... Nothing too fancy or over the top, just a clean and straightforward option file.

If anyone can recommend a good one or point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Quoting my own post here.

So after much asking and searching around, and uninstalling XBSX2 and reinstalling it.

I have finally found out what was causing the slow down. It was the commentating! Even though I do not listen to the commentating, by chance I realised that I had the commentating set to 1 star (the lowest frequency setting). And even though I had the commentary volume turned down to zero it was still affecting it. So I turned the frequency to off and now it has stopped slowing down. That explains why it was only happening in the penalty area, because the commentator would have been getting excited even though the volume was on zero.

Admittedly it still happens slightly after a goal, a foul, or half time and full time whistle, but at least it does not happen when I am actually playing the match.

I am so pleased for this discovery! :D

You should report this on the forum for the emulator! Maybe they get some fix for it on future updates, nice finding mate!

Been playing PES 2008 PS2 ML a bit more on Xbox today and being honest it is still stuttering a bit. Maybe it is not as bad with commentary off, it is bearable. I am also recording on an external drive.

I will do what @marqisspes6 suggested and use the default ISO to see if it makes a difference.

I finally did a video of my new Option File along with some gameplay AI v AI.

The AI in this game is so good, and the reason why sometimes I just sit down and watch the AI play out a match.

I was toying with ChatGPT to check if it's able to convert stats from old FIFA games to PES games and it looks promosing.

Exemple of conversation I had.

Vous avez dit :

Are you able to convert FIFA 2007 stats to PES 6 stats ?

ChatGPT a dit :

Yes, I can help convert FIFA 07 player stats to Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (PES 6) format. Since both games use different rating systems and stat categories, we’ll need to map the attributes from FIFA to their closest equivalents in PES 6.
Here’s how the conversion generally works:

1. Attribute Mapping (FIFA 07 → PES 6)

FIFA 07 AttributePES 6 Equivalent
AccelerationExplosive Power / Acceleration
Sprint SpeedTop Speed
Ball ControlBall Control
DribblingDribble Accuracy
Short PassingShort Pass Accuracy
Long PassingLong Pass Accuracy
Shot PowerShot Power

Sliding TackleSlide Tackle
PositioningPositioning
Vision / CreativityPassing / Playmaking
ReactionsResponse
StaminaStamina
StrengthBody Balance
AggressionAggression
ComposureMentality
GK DivingGoalkeeping Skills
GK ReflexesGK Reflexes
GK PositioningGK Positioning

2. Rating Conversion

FIFA uses a 0–99 scale, while PES 6 uses 0–99 but is balanced differently. A linear or normalized scale conversion often works. For example:
PES_stat = (FIFA_stat - 50) * 1.6 + 50
This gives reasonable realism but can be adjusted depending on how the overall stat balance feels in PES 6.

If you provide me with a player's FIFA 07 stats, I can convert them to PES 6 stats for you. Would you like to try it with a specific player?

Matthias Schober

ChatGPT a dit :

Mathias Schober was a German goalkeeper who played for FC Schalke 04, Hamburger SV, and Hansa Rostock during his career. He was known for his height (1.91 m) and his solid performances in goal. While specific FIFA 07 stats for Schober are not readily available, based on his career and attributes, we can estimate his ratings for Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (PES 6).Wikipedia+1FBref+1

Estimated PES 6 Stats for Mathias Schober

AttributeEstimated Value
GK Diving80
GK Handling78
GK Kicking75
GK Reflexes82
GK Positioning79
GK Reach81
GK Speed70
GK Stamina74
GK Aggression68

These values are estimated based on Schober's performances in the Bundesliga, where he had over 200 appearances, and his physical attributes. His strong reflexes and solid shot-stopping abilities would be reflected in higher ratings for GK Diving and GK Reflexes. His handling and positioning are also solid but not exceptional, leading to mid-70s ratings in those areas. His kicking and reach are decent but not standout, so they are rated in the low 80s. His speed, stamina, and aggression are average for a goalkeeper, resulting in mid-70s ratings.
Please note that these are estimated values and may not perfectly match Schober's actual FIFA 07 stats. If you have access to specific FIFA 07 stats for Schober, I can provide a more accurate conversion to PES 6 stats.

And what would be his growth type ?

ChatGPT a dit :

In PES 6, player development is categorized into several growth types, which determine how and when a player improves with age and match experience. The main growth types are:
  • Early Peak
  • Standard
  • Late Peak
  • Early/Lasting
  • Late/Lasting
  • Constant
  • Decline Early

Mathias Schober's Likely Growth Type

Considering:
  • He was born in 1976 and was around 30–31 during the 2006–2007 season.
  • He was a backup goalkeeper at Schalke but had experience as a starter at Hansa Rostock.
  • His attributes reflect a mature, stable goalkeeper rather than a developing talent.
Best Match: Decline Early or Constant
  • Decline Early: Fits players who have already peaked and gradually decline.
  • Constant: Rare, but possible for experienced players with steady performance and limited change over time.
Verdict: Schober’s growth type in PES 6 would most likely be Decline Early, meaning his stats would already be close to peak and begin to slowly drop as he ages.
Would you like help assigning his development curve or putting him into an in-game editor format (like PES Editor or PESFan format)?

Vous avez dit :

Decline early is not a PES 6 growth type. It should be Early, Early Lasting, Standard, Standard Lasting, Late Peak, Late Lasting

ChatGPT a dit :

You're absolutely right again—thank you for the correction.
In PES 6, the correct growth types are indeed:
  • Early Peak
  • Early Lasting
  • Standard
  • Standard Lasting
  • Late Peak
  • Late Lasting
These define how quickly a player develops and how long they sustain their peak.

Most Accurate Growth Type for Mathias Schober

Given:
  • Age in PES 6 (2006/07 season): 30 years old
  • Career trajectory: mostly a backup with some seasons as starter
  • Likely near or just past his peak in ability
  • Not expected to improve further in Master League or Become a Legend

Best Fit: Early Peak

  • Early Peak players hit their highest stats in their 20s and begin declining by their late 20s or early 30s.
  • This matches Schober’s profile—he wouldn't improve with training and would start declining soon in Master League.

If you were editing him in PES Editor or manually assigning values, you’d mark Growth Type: Early Peak.
Would you like a full PES 6 .csv-style player file or editor-ready data next?

Vous avez dit :

Don't you think that it'd mean that at his peak he would then have reached 90 in some of the stats which is too high for him ?

ChatGPT a dit :

Excellent point—and you're absolutely right to question that.
In PES 6, growth types affect both the timing and magnitude of stat development. An Early Peak player often develops quickly and hits high stats early—sometimes too high for a player like Schober, who was solid but never world-class.
So let’s reconsider:

Reevaluating Schober's Growth Type

  • Peak performance: Around age 28–31, but never elite
  • Never expected to grow much in Master League
  • No standout physical development
  • Reliable backup—not a rising star or a declining legend

Most Realistic Growth Type: Standard

  • Standard growth provides gradual development and tapering off without reaching overpowered levels.
  • It allows for solid but realistic stat progression without sudden spikes or very high peaks.
  • Most journeyman professionals and squad players use this type in PES 6.

Alternative (if you want minimal growth or realism focus)

If you want him to stay stable and decline gently, you could also justify:
  • Standard Lasting – if you think he maintained his level slightly longer.
But Standard is the safest and most realistic choice for a 30-year-old reliable goalkeeper with mid-70s to low-80s stats.

Can you also provide the formula to generate its face in game ?

ChatGPT a dit :

Yes, I can help with that. In PES 6, player faces (for non-star players) are typically generated using a preset face formula in the in-game Create Player menu or PES Editor. The formula is made up of sliders for facial features like head size, eye shape, nose position, and so on.
These are usually shared in the following format:

PES 6 Face Formula Example (for Create Player)

Here’s a general template:
yaml
Copier le code
Face Type: [Preset face ID or number]
Skin Colour: [1–6]
Head Length: [–7 to +7]
Head Width: [–7 to +7]
Eyebrows: Type [ID], Angle, Height, Spacing
Eyes: Type [ID], Angle, Size, Position
Nose: Type [ID], Size, Position
Mouth: Type [ID], Size, Position
Jaw: Type [ID], Size
Facial Hair: Type, Density
Hair Style: [In-game hairstyle ID or name], Length

Creating a Face for Matthias Schober (Estimated)

Since Schober didn't have a preset face in PES 6, we can approximate one based on his real-life appearance (tall, square-jawed, short dark hair, often clean-shaven):
yaml
Copier le code
Face Type: 03
Skin Colour: 2
Head Length: -2
Head Width: +1

Eyebrows: Type 04, Angle -1, Height +1, Spacing 0
Eyes: Type 05, Angle 0, Size -1, Position 0
Nose: Type 06, Size 0, Position 0
Mouth: Type 04, Size 0, Position 0
Jaw: Type 05, Size +2

Facial Hair: None
Hair Style: Short (Type 08), Length -1
This is a generic approximation, but it should give you a face that looks passable for Schober. If you want it to look more realistic, I can refine this using a photo—just upload one and I’ll adjust the formula accordingly.
Would you like to export this to PES Editor or for use in Option File editing?

Vous avez dit :

Skin color should probably be 1.

ChatGPT a dit :

You're absolutely right—Matthias Schober has a fair complexion, so in PES 6, his Skin Colour should indeed be set to 1, which is the lightest tone available in the game.
Here's the updated line in the face formula:
