The PC Building Thread

It is English, when it says Steam + Russian Subtitles that = English. Sleeping Dogs was the same :)

Checked and confirmed:

Hi, I ordered Borderlands 2 for PC, does "Language: Russian (subtitles)" mean it will be in English? If it's not in English will I be eligible for a refund or maybe trade? Thanks, love Cddiski, recommending it to all my friends!

Is that graphics card a Radeon HD 7750? If yes I cant see you having any problems running either PES or FIFA with decent graphics settings.

Who is selling that machine?
How much they charging for it?

Not a bad price, but AMD procesor and low end graphics card.
But you prob cant argue much for the price.

Pes will run fine when modded on medium settings.

Could certainly be beaten though.

Yeah, not good. If you can push the budget a little higher you could even put a new rig together that will wipe the floor with that and give you a good platform to expand upon if you get the PC bug (which you will).

I have a question for the PC guys that are around 30, not a building question but I dont know if its worth making another thread for. In the last 5 years I have massively cut down on gaming, I currently only play PES and during this 5 year period I remember finishing only a handful of games, I dont get much enjoyment from them anymore. Thinking about this earlier I realised that my lack of interest in games started when I changed from PC to console gaming. When I think back to my favorite gaming experiences they were mostly PC games that were rich in story and atmosphere. I can remember being genuinely freaked out playing system shock 2, waiting patiently in the shadows in Thief worried that i might be seen, being sucked into Deus Exs story and getting excited to see how it would progress, waiting nervously in an bombed out building for the germans to storm in COD and being scared to move in AVP2 playing as the marine. Fallout 3 aside console gaming has provided me with no such memories. So my question is does the PC still have these sort of titles? Games that fill you with emotion and intrigue, ones that are actually worth spending time and money on.

Well, I'm 31 and I feel exactly the same way. My gaming time is generally on the slide, although I still get plenty of time to game. Just not the 3/4 hour sessions I used to be able to get away with. Work and life gets in the way and I find there is always something else I should be doing. God knows what will happen to my gaming hobby if/when we have kids.

That's part of the reason why I made the switch back to PC gaming - to try and reignite my interest in gaming again. I had grown thoroughly tired of console gaming. Expensive games, rip-off and/or piss-take DLC, paying to play online, the general dumbing down of the user interfaces (looking at you XBL)......all on consoles well past their sell-by dates. Just sick of it. The worst thing is nearly all console games these days are tailored for the lowest common denominators in society

I'm a PC gamer at heart having grown up with the Commodore Amiga. I'd say most of my best gaming memories stem from the Amiga era with the likes of SWOS, Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix, Syndicate, Populus, Settlers, Cannon Fodder, all the flight sims etc, etc......I love my simulators and strategy games - anything that makes me think really. Consoles games became far too mind-numbing for me. I stopped buying new games and wasn't really looking forward to anything. PC gaming has definitely got my excited about games again. I'm loving the hardcore, challenging racing sims like rFactor 2 and the strategy games that I used to enjoy.

Ern Dog:
I am 31 as well and the main problem with games now is none are inovative they all clone each other and games are just really generic these days and have really shit AI, games used to be a challenge on Normal now you have to play on Difficult and still get annoyed with crap AI. Some games developed for PC like F.E.A.R still sometimes have really good AI, but in general AI is poor, especially the new Deus Ex you could walk 12 feet in front of people and they wouldn't see you.
The odd PC indie game are good Amnesia: The Dark Descent was had amazing atmosphere with an 11 month old baby now though my gaming time is pretty much now just maybe having a couple of hours in the evening, a couple of days a week.
PC games also at the moment are just console games with far superior graphics, but you will find it really difficult to find the gaming experiences you used to have as IMO consoles have ruined gaming.

Although I have mainly gamed on a PC for the last 15 years, like Jamez all my fondest memories were when I was about 12-16 when I owned my Amiga. SWOS(the greatest football game of all time), Grand Prix, Syndicate, Populous, Canon Fodder, It Came From the Desert, Wings, History Line. I could go on all day about how the Amiga was the greatest gaming machine ever made.

Sounds like it mate.

The Amiga era was such a great time to be a gamer. So much choice and so much innovation. Cheap as well compared to what consoles were charging for games at the time.

It sounds elitist but as gaming has become more mainstream it has gone downhill. That was always going to happen but sad all the same. I just find games these days so homogeneous and shallow. You get the odd classic these days but they are few and far between.

Oh dear thats not what I wanted to hear. I looked for PC games last night that might be of interest and while there were games that did look good there were not as many as I had hoped for. I guess not being able to buy right away is a blessing in disguise as it gives me more time to think it through.

Im 31 in a few weeks! I had an Amiga 600, loved those days where you could buy a pack of 10 floppys take them into school and come home with 3 or 4 games the following day. I dont think I bought 1 original game back then .
While the Amiga games were very good(Flashback, Another World, Cannon Fodder, SWOS, Monkey Island etc....) I think when my parents bought a Packard Bell 50hz Intel with 2mb ram(:LMAO:) is when I really fell in love with gaming. The jump to CD Rom created much more involving games, I will never forget being awe struck that Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis had actual speech instead of just text and the digitised graphics in Rebel Assault.
When PCs got a bit more powerful and games like Half Life were coming out was the golden period for me. I could play games all day at that time they were soo good. I would just like 1 or 2 games a year that grab me like they all did back then.

I think I agree that consoles have ruined gaming, it became too big a business and when that happened quality was bound to decline.

I'm 40 next month and game more now than at any point in my life! :) I think the main difference is when I was much younger I would maybe in 10 hours of gaming play three or four different games whereas these days I tend to play one game at a time until I complete it or get bored of it. Last couple of weeks (well 12 days) it was Sleeping Dogs for a total of 38 hours, before that I crunched through Arkham City to completion (except a bunch of collectibles) etc. etc.

Unfortunetly I have not stuck to budget as I don't feel you can get a decent build for less than £550.

I have managed to get one for around £530 but this will include a 2nd hand 5870. It is an older card but without a doubt provides the best bang per buck you can get.

If £400 was the budget I could of done something for that, but the problem with cheap PC's is you get what you pay for and in the case of the one for £375 it is pretty nasty and although upgradable the problem is your stuck with a crappy motherboard and processor which you will never be able to get rid of.

The graphics card was also low end so you won't be able to play many games if any at 1080 maxed out.

The biggest problem with PC's is you get what you pay for and IMO you are better off saving your money for another month or two till you have a budget of around £600. The benefits of getting yourself a decent build now over one which will do is massive, but this is just my opinion.

Fair play mate and I totally understand what your saying
