The Movies Thread

I've seen Runaway Jury many times, good film.

The Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman scene is great.

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

7/10

Nice film. Makes you feel good - nice music too.

What Just Happened?

6.5/10

Alright film.... not much really happens. Bruce Willis was pretty funny.

We had a Cusack double the other night:

Grosse Point Blank - still as good as ever, excellent film 8.5/10
War Inc - Utter garbage 2/10

We also watched a classic Clint western (can't believe my wife loves westerns as well!) Pale Rider - Time hasn't aged it too badly 7.5/10

Highlander as well, special effects are showing cracks but it's Sean Connery as an Egyptian, running around and sword fighting at the age of 55, how can you not love that? Plus of course one of the greatest Queen albums of all time in the background 8/10

Also in light of the current conflicts in Afghanistan/Iraq and the actions (plus close ties to former government members) of the private contractor Halliburton (of whom it's obvious Tamerlane is a pastiche) I found the whole thing to be in exceptionally poor taste, I'm as up for satire as any red blooded Englishman but banging the same feeble joke over and over for 90 mins does not equal satire, it equals shit writing.

seven pounds 8.6/10

very very good movie and one that will "move" you while watching it. well acted by will smith. its only a matter of time before will is good enough to win an oscar. he has really grown and matured in his acting ability.

his just got to try and not "over do it" in emotional scenes. sometimes he cries to much or sometimes he shouts too loud. great actor he has become from when he first started in the fresh prince series.

I hope youre talking about the movie and agreeing with me otherwise
u really think a person is dumb for misspell in foreign language?

that would be plain stupid imho.

thanx placebo, btw.

woh thats the last time I make a joke

How is Will Smith any less deserving than any of the other previous winners? Because he happened to have played a silly character in a silly sitcom 12 years ago? He's come a long way since then, in terms of the roles he plays and how he performs then, he's turned into a surprisingly decent actor.

yea look at jamie foxx. he started out in a similar sitcom and he managed to win an oscar a few years ago

Plenty of Oscar winners have something embarrassing in their past, ask Catherine Zeta Jones about The Darling Buds of May, Michael Caine about Jaws: The Revenge etc. etc.

yea he is an awesome actor and like i said, its only a matter of time before he wins an oscar.

who do u guys think will win it this year?

probably mickey rourke although i havent seen the film yet, a lot of the oscars is about buzz and momentum and he has that going for him for sure.

i watched benjamin button last night and i was sort of disappointed. it was good but it wasnt that good. gran torino was a much better film imo.
