The Movies Thread

Just watching The Crazies, and it's your typical American scare-flick. Why do all US "horrors" have to resort to the shitty, cheap tactic of making a scene quiet and then creating a really loud noise to make the audience jump? Haven't they learnt anything from the Asian horrors about creating a proper horror film based on suspense and tension?

Seems they have no problems ripping Asian films off and creating shitty remakes, shame they can't actually make a good horror film and they all use the same generic tactics regardless of the film. Such a cheap trick and really ruins American films.

Edit: Turned it off after 27 mins, what a load of shite. It's a perfect example of a shit US "loud-noise" horror, fucking awful and I want my 27 mins back.

Wanted - 6/10

The Usual Suspects - 8.5/10

Inception

I'm not a fan of Nolan's directing, but this time I have to admit it's brilliant. Every quote, every scene has a purpose.

The first minutes are hard to follow, I've seen a couple people leaving the theater and I had to stay 200% focused but that was worth it.

I don't think that the story is that complicated as most people say, but it's very, very well told. From the first scene to the last.

That was fucking awesome, lovely soundtrack too.
You like hearing the same song, not that it's bad, over and over for 3 hours ? That's the weakest point for me.

Such a clever movie.

10/10

Not so much the song but the sound and the effective way it was used.

Count yourself lucky... I watched it for 28 minutes before turning it off.

I ONLY watch Asian horror movies now. SO much classier and atmosphere along with tension is built within their films making them gripping.

I WILL not be tempted to sit and expect to watch a decent American horror as they simply can't make them any more.

American remakes of Asian horrors always turn out dumbed down. American film makers should give Americans more credit to understand the depth of Asian horrors.

That's the most times I've typed the word 'Americans' in a post ever!

I find the best thing about Asian (and all horror to be honest) is what you don't see, the US like it in your face and bloody...

Book of Eli 8/10

Pretty standard film until you realise what's happened all they way through

Made me want to watch it again straight after

The International - 6/10.

Boring film.

clive owen film? i agree, it was boring.

anyways 7.6/10 for up in the air. decent movie. good performance from clooney. great insight in life and how its best to be married instead of living on your own.

Watchmen (BD) - 9/10

Really enjoyed the film. Very dark, but with a very deep story to go with it. Great acting, soundtrack and dialogue also. This is how all comic book movies should be.

Surrogates (BD) - 7/10

Another enjoyable film. Reminded me a lot of Minority Report and iRobot and overall it had a pretty decent story to go with it. If it wasn't for the familiar actors (Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, Radha Mitchell) it would have been a pretty average film. Very watchable though.

Girl with dragon tattoo 8/10. Great movie.can't believe hollywood going to remake it with daniel craig in it.

The Fourth Kind (BD) - 7/10

I quite enjoyed it, particularly since it has real footage shown throughout. I really don't know what to make of it all though, there are some parts I'm sceptical of yet it all seems so eerily real and fucked up. One thing is for sure there are definitely things out there we cannot explain.

The A-Team 7/10 Great film, just as good as the original TV series and the comedic moments in the film compliment it perfectly along with the action scenes

Avatar - 5/10

Finally got round to watching it, not the worst thing I've ever watched but it was way overhyped in my opinion.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - 9/10

I watched the extended editions of all three a few weeks ago, they are great movies in my opinion. The acting is mainly superb, the CGI is good - it's used well and not overdone and it's full of action while at the same time having a solid plot behind it.
I watched all 3 movies at the cinema when they were released, but now I'm older I grasped the story better, plus the extended editions have some important scenes that were cut from the cinema editions. I'd recommend you lot watch them :).
