Re: PES 2008 ML
Having read all the blurb about the ML in PES2008, about the fans and cut scnenes etc, i can't help but think Nokami have perhaps been influenced by the Master League stories on PES forums, such as the ones from here, which originated a good few years back.
It's a nice touch and i'm sure i'll enjoy it to begin with, but i'm sure i'll also sigh once faced with the same old tired ML format (d1, d2, d1 cup, d2 cup etc...). It's this i'd rather they 'improve/upgrade.' When will we get that single domestic cup which involves both divisions!?
On another note, i've narrowed down my choice of teams to 3 for my first PES2008 ML

I have meanwhile been using an updated OF, which has all the newly promoted clubs and kits for all teams. It also has a few stat tweaks.
Gerd, i had some 'Palm' beer the other day, very nice
Hi Professor Nutmeg,
I’ve currently been playing JLWE2007CC, which is a game you probably already know about through the Winning Eleven section on this forum.
Well, I’ve been playing a Master League with RC Lens on the game, and it seems to me that Konami are capable of delivering a realistic football career mode structure.
Let me explain
(with some added pictures). When your starting a new game you get three different option of a team you want to play as (
>click<). You choose the team you want to utilize (
>click<). Then you get to choose one of three different partners in the league (
>click<). One is a custom league, where you can create your own league with 20 teams in D1 and 13 in D2. There is a one option (a red logo) which I can’t access, not sure why. Euro League is the one of the three options which I choose.
After this you choose a league type (
>click<), which is like choosing the format of the league you want to play in. I choose French League
(Ligue 1).
When I chose these options the structure of the league is very realistic. It’s like playing the normal League Mode, except it’s in the Master League. So you have all the league rules, cumulative cautions and red card bans, realistically in the Master League, depending on what league you chose. The calendar format is set out the way it is in real life (
>click<), which is in months, so you have start of the season with negotiations, a January transfer and end of season transfer. The way the European season is set out in real life is how it is in the Master League calendar. Also you have the other leagues in the Master League with all the teams in the respective leagues.
The cup competition is quite realistic to, you have the CL where you have to finish 1-2 to go straight in the group stage and 3-4 puts you in the qualifying stages (
>click<). In the group stage the format is the proper 8 group leagues, with your team proceeding to the knockout round if you finish 1st or 2nd and 3rd place going to the UEFA Cup. The UEFA Cup doesn’t have a group stage like in real life, which is forgivable, due to the lack of Europeans teams in the game. Here is snapshot of a league schedule during the year
>click<. The domestic cups a not played over two legs, just one round and you go through, I’m not sure if there are replays in the game due to me not getting to that point yet. The cup competition starts at different times depending on the league your playing, so if you choose the Italian League it’ll start earlier in the season, but the English and French will start later in the season. Also Konami even added the World Club Championship in the game
(under a fake name, which I changed), which has teams from other continents (
>click<).
It’s been a really enjoying Master League and I’ve really been addicted to it, bar the odd dodgy matches. I’m currently 11th with RC Lens, haven’t been doing to well, due to a lack of players in certain potions; but I’m only 4 points of a European place so it’s all about trying to finish the season of well. In the first round of the cup I’ve got Lyon, which will be a tough match! The only thing I don’t like about the Master League is the ugly menu interface :puke
>click<), which I should be able to live with.
I don’t understand why Konami don’t implement this type of Master League into the European version of the game, but it seems it’s only exclusive to the J.League editions of Winning Eleven. I think Konami should implement this type of Master League into the next-gen titles of the normal Winning Eleven edition of the game and in Pro Evolution Soccer. Then add a fictional second
(even third, forth or fifth division, considering there now using blu-ray technology) division, which has a number teams depending on the league you chose. Then just add real money, improved transfer and stats system and you have a very good Master League.

But after reading the preview of PES2008, it seems Konami will probably be giving us the same mundane Master League!!
