N.C.E. Super League Division 1 (Season 2007): Last fixture of the season

It was all good just a week ago

Well, it seems that the unexpected happened; Ajax lost their last game of the season to Arminia Bielefeld. They got beaten 0-1 to the German side. Now Bielefeld are the league champions by two points ahead of Ajax. Not only did Ajax get beat to the title, but they also lost to Bielefeld in the cup final! Damn, thats a double whammy!

I would of thought with home advantage and Ajax being a strong side, they would have no problem winning the match…I guess not!

With me, I managed to beat Sparta Rotterdam away, 1-2. The goals came late in the game. Pelle put me 0-1 up in the 77th minute and a minute later I got a second from Ari. Sparta got a cancellation goal, but I was able to hold on for a victory. This win secures 7th place for me. And hopefully a UEFA Cup place.

Ari, my Brazilian striker, has probably been the bright spot to my season, notching a tally of 14 goals. Hopefully, he’ll continue that form onto next season.

Good question SB, as i was checking this out last night. It seems Bordeaux, who finished 9th in the previous season, made it into the Uefa Cup. Very odd. As far as i remember, both cup finalists were in the top six places already. I therefore have no idea how the computer worked it out. Technically i think it should have been me, because i'm pretty sure it's been allocated to 7th placed teams before, when the cup finalists have already qualified for Europe. It would have been cool to have qualified for the Uefa Cup like that, on the last day of the season.
Yeah, it should be allocated to the 7th place teams. It’s been like that since PES4.

Where did Bordeaux finish in the cup last season? Maybe they were in the semi-final and had some kinda good record…..ahhh fuck it….that shouldn’t be right!

European footy looks a distinct possibility for next season though. I ought to make it to the league cup final. At the moment it will be against either Lyon or Le Mans. I reckon it will be Lyon, in which case i'll qualify for the Uefa Cup, just by being in the final (Lyon will finish in the top six). I fancy a piece of Europe :)

Well, you should pray for Le Mans to go through, and then you’ll have a good chance of winning the league cup. :)

EDIT: Reading your post above, you're now through in the cup final with Lyon. Good luck mate.

By the way, is it possible to change the settings to allow you to change it at anytime? What I’m trying to say is, I want to change the difficulty settings from Regular to Top player during the season. Which means during the off-season I have to change the “change settings” to NO. Well is there a place in the ML I can do that, because I don’t see it there now!

Of course, all logic goes out the window with Nokami. My favourite is (playing in the French League as i am) nine French goalkeepers being "summoned to represent" at the same time. That's some squad!
HAHAHAHAHA! I had to laugh when I read that…that some funny shit!

I noticed that before, I’ll check next time and see the Dutch players that were selected.

Konami really needs to look into these little kinda details. They’ve got the gameplay right, just need to really improve the single player mode….that’s something haven’t even come close to doing!

It seems your virtual AZ67 reflects the reality rather well Stringer, since the real AZ also have a rater disappointing season...This could mean a new start for your team..good luck...
Yeah, AZ are having a really disappointing season. I thought they’ll have the confidence to go for the title this season having come so close to winning it the previous season.

If you look at it, they could have done a treble last season. They could have won the title on the very last day; they could of beat Ajax in the cup final and if they beat Espanola in the semi-final, they could have won the UEFA Cup, that’s if they beat Sevilla in the final.

But that’s just a bunch of ifs, could haves and could ofs! :)

This year though, Heerenveen seem to be doing very well. They’ve had some really good result; they’ve like 8 games unbeaten or something?

Anyways gerd, do they broadcast the Eredivise in Belgium?

 whoops indeed

Not sure where Bordeaux finished in the cup. Pretty sure it wasn't the finals. Surely they don't look further back in the competition though. Meh.

SB, when you start an ML you need to say 'yes' to the option which allows you to change settings later ('change settings?'). eg you can change match duration times at any point in the season and also i think difficulty (but not certain things like transfers). If it's greyed out, then it's not possible. Maybe have look in the off season though.
The bug i noticed this year was the shop/classic player one. You say 'no' it says 'yes' but i've read a way around it.

Has anyone identified a player in their ML who always scores against you? Cavenaghi seems to do it for Bordeaux against me. A hat-trick in one game and he even came off the bench in another to score.

Damn! When i was doing the settings to my ML, i put it to No. I guess that means i can't put it on Top Player when i get to Europe. :(

HAHAHAHA! I love Konami!

There is a lanky player called Igor Gluscevic (Heracles Almelo), who seems to always score against me. If his not scoring he usualy giving my defenders a headache! #-o

He got a hattrick during that 5-5 draw with me earlier in the season.

"KINGS OF LYON"

STRASBOURG SNATCH CUP FINAL VICTORY

trophee-coupe-ligue.jpg

COUPE DE LA LIGUE (Final)
RC STRASBOURG 3 Vuorinen 48'(p) 84'(p) Golan 62'
OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS 1 Baros 25'

Racing Club de Strasbourg came back from a goal down to win the season's first bit of domestic silverware, the league cup, when they faced Olympique Lyonnais at the Stade de France, last night. Neutrals will have been enthralled by the events that unfolded in Paris, as a dogged display played out. Lyon's skill and finesse matched by Strasbourg's indomitable spirit.

Early lead

Baros wheels away after scoring

Strasbourg looked nervous in the first half and this allowed Lyon to dictate the play, as the French Champions began to fashion chances, probing at the Alsace club's defence. Stéphane Cassard was called into action early and the keeper saved well from Lyon's threats. He was unable however to keep out Milan Baros' 25th minute strike, sending Lyon's supporters into a frenzy. Heads dropped on one side of the pitch, but Professor Nutmeg rallied his charges and tweaked his team's formation, pushing Pascal Johansen behind the two strikers. The remainder of the first half played out without any further goals, with Lyon looking set for yet another trophy.

Penalty
gregory-coupet-reste-lyon.jpg

Coupet faced two penalties

Strasbourg were thrown a lifeline three minutes into the second half, when Yacine Abdessadki was adjudged to have been fouled in the box. After much protestation, Hermanni Vuorinen converted the spot kick past Gregory Coupet, to bring the tie level, and with it, Strasbourg's confidence began to surface. Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo held firm infront of the centrebacks, doggedly breaking down Lyon's surges through the middle, picking up a booking in the process.
Then on 62 minutes drama struck again. Omer Golan chased a back pass to Coupet, the Israeli international challenged the keeper and managed to rob him of posession. Golan then smashed the ball into the net from two yards, as Strasbourg snatched a shock lead. Professor Nutmeg immediately made use of substitutions and packed five into the midfield, gesturing to his players to keep their heads. Lyon found a new sense of urgency and now set their sights on an equaliser, pushing four upfront as Strasbourg faced a barrage of attacks.
Lyon were unable to penetrate the opposition's defence once more, but they did manage to concede a second penalty, via a foul just inside the box. Once again Vuorinen stepped up and sent Coupet the wrong way, as his shot rebounded in off the upright to nestle in the back of the net. Vuorinen was mobbed by his team mates as even the substitutes joined in the celebrations.
Strasbourg pick up their first bit of silverware under Professor Nutmeg and with it a Uefa cup place next season.

Congratulations on the victory Professor Nutmeg! :applause:

Especially to come back from a goal behind. If that happened to me in the final, i would of cracked!

p.s. - was the final of the match really played at the parc de france?

Thanks mate :) I was genuinely nervous at kick-off. I normally lose or draw with Lyon and to come so far to lose is a shame. Nice to have one bit of silverware under my belt already in PES2008. I was punching the air when i began my comeback, lol.

You've combined 2 stadiums there ;) (Stade de France + Parc des Princes). For the magic of my ML and this thread, yes, it did take place at the Stade de France (where they hold the final irl these days).

In reality it was the Olympic Stadium (Tokyo). Stade de France isn't in the game, is it?

SB, it's all about the half time talk. I can't tell you what i said, but it did the trick (a comeback) ;)

Db, it seems you run a tight ship. Only management drinking, i see :mryellow:

Congratulations on your Cup victory Prof...
I think i will stop my Getafe ML due to....bloody Teamvision (i'm playing on PS3...i don't know if Teamvision is included in the PS2 version).
When i started the ML it was on what used to be 4 stars (top player i think, anyway not the highest difficulty level)...i was in division 2 and i think it was slightly too easy...
Then after promotion i decided to put on the highest difficulty (professional or is that top player) and at times i had big wins (i remember stringer's remark after i had crushed Lyon to move the difficulty up..i already was on the highest difficulty level). I was doing fantastic, playing for the first place against Barcelona, losing logically (but by a very small margin in a match were Getafe were good...)and then winning against Sevilla and Deportivo.
Then came the match against Espanyol...i took the lead with a totally unlogical own-goal by an Espanyol player and after that i just hadn't the slightest chance...i lost that match 3-1 with three deflected balls.
Then came the match against Zaragoza, a team i had easily beaten in the Cup. I lost 4-0 and they were waaaay too strong...i had the distinct impression that Zaragoza players won every ball, even balls that were impossible to win.
Next match was against Olympique Marseille: 0-4 and i was by far the better team but my players just seemed unable to score. Marseille scored 4 free kick goals between the 82th and the 90 minute...4 free kick goals...come on...
Next match was against Bordeaux: another thrashing....another illogically thrashing.
I had noticed a cheating AI in the PSP version of PES6 (never in the PS2 version, although most of you had noticed it), but this was very, very blatant.
So i decided to do a test and start a league with all the weak teams (VVV, SParta, the Finnish team,...) and me playing with Barcelona. I played 7 or 8 matches dream football with scores like 5-0 or even more and then suddenly "it" changed against Db's VVV: 3-0 defeat, after that i kept on losing or having a miracle 0-0....
This isn't fun anymore...am i a bad looser????
Maybe i will continue the Getafe ML (which i liked a lot) in a couple of weeks, but right now i've started a new one on "4 stars", a difficulty level which is slightly too easy for me, but i enjoy it...i'll report about that one in a couple of days...

Sorry if i'm moaning...must be old age...

Thanks gerd. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I much prefer the 'current gen' version to the 'next gen' and although i get some games where i get the distinct feeling i'm not allowed to win or even score, i play on (generally rolling my eyes and even laughing at the ridiculousness of it all).

How about an ML with the default crew? It's bound to be difficult, yet rewarding when you win. FC Brussels? Don't forget MLs will get easier as your player's stats increase (sometimes i believe, by too much) if you have that option on. It almost seems as if you ought to buy worse players, the longer you play.

I am currently enjoying my Master League games on current Gen. I am in my 3rd season and have made Boro my scoring leader since I acquired him. I have stayed with Seedorf in the midfield, Mutu, and Toldo as GK. I don't want to get more high rated players due to ML becoming easier and easier. I am having a great time playing as is, and will try to stay with minimum of 4 star players for my team with the rest of them being average only.

Peace!

I might try a Brussels ML later on Prof (i'm saying this for years now) but i've just started a ML which runs parallel with what i'm doing in Football Manager...i tend to buy the same players as in Football Manager (which is possible given that it is more easy to buy players in PES than in Football Manager).
I've been playing with Everton in Football Manager. Currently (on boxing day) i'm second in the Premiership, 3 points behind Chelsea. Arsenal is third with one point less than Everton and Man Utd 4th with two points less...
Best of all: i've beaten Liverpool at Anfield (0-1). Gerrard was so frustrated that he broke the leg of De Guzman, in injury time...
I've bought Gavilan and De Guzman and loaned Womé from Werder Bremen.
I face a difficult period with lots of injuries now and with the CAN (Yobo, Anichebe, Pienaar, Yakubu, Womé...)

In the ML with Everton i drew my first two matches 2-2 against Rangers and Bolton Wanderers...

If you do play as Brussels, you'll be able to have Akpa Akpro and i guess that Peto might be in the Hungary squad :)

Sigh, if only PES would call up African players mid-season, every few seasons, instead of nine French goalkeepers during the French league season (as part of the "summoned to represent")
It's bad enough as it is that i don't get enough injuries.

Okay, right.

I was kinda in a rush when i was typing that out, but their both French stadiums anyways. :)

Would be good if you choose which stadiums you want to play in for a cup final.

Yeah, thats okay. Have you patched the game on the PC?

The 2008 1.20 patch?
Or the PES6 patch?

Lol.

If you guys want I can revert back to my legendary ML team consisting of Park Chu Young, Frenando Torres, Ryan Babel, Shaun Maloneuy, etc., etc. on PES6 or I will start a new ML with Celtic on PES2008.

Yea, your choice, I'll play either, lol.

:D

NUTMEG HAPPY WITH SEASON FINISH

Strasbourg wrapped up a successful 08/09 season with a third place league finish and a league cup winners title. Racing will now enter European qualifiers, to see if they can force their way into Europe's premier cup competition, the Champions League.

So i'm in the off-season at the moment and about to go into my third season with Strasbourg. I'm considering swapping out my good strikers for ones with worse stats. I've already signed Elyaniv Barda from Genk (very low stats, most likely underrated by Nokami. I'm sure gerd will agree). I might ditch Omer Golan in his favour, as he's got pretty good now. I may also ditch Vuorinen for another striker with lower stats. It's a shame Gheddafi isn't in the game anymore - an all white stats striker. Superb ;)
I hope i don't regret this when i'm toiling away in the European qualifiers :mryellow:

I think in my next ML i may switch off player age/growth (like the old days), firstly as i hate the respawns and secondly, because so many players' stats go ballistic.
I had a bit of a search via the negotiations in my ML and began to compile a list of players whose stats were reasonably poor. Players that i may use in the future.

TRANSFERS

IN
Isaac Chansa (Helsingborgs IF)
Elyaniv Barda (KRC Genk)
Nicolas Cinalli (De Graafschap)

Emil Gargorov (CSKA Sofia)

STRASBOURG WIN SEASON OPENER

1ère Journée
Strasbourg 3 Cohade 31' Gameiro 71' Golan 77'
Le Mans 0

Strasbourg finally managd to win their opening fixture of the season, with a crushing home victory over Le Mans. Three terrific goals punctuated a dazzling display by Professor Nutmeg's side.

Midfielder Renaude Cohade got the opener with a fierce low drive from 18 metres out. Kevin Gameiro added added a well executed header in the second half, after some superb interplay between Klemi Saban and Omer Golan, Saban's teasing cross from the right, inch perfect.

Two goals up and a 4-5-1 formation was adopted by the home side. Golan roamed the frontline alone, as Le Mans pushed up. The striker managed to rob Grégory Cerdan of possession in his own half and race goalwards. One on one and 15 metres out on the left, the Israeli international curled a shot round Yoann Pelé with finesse, to bury any hopes Le Mans harboured of getting a result.

PSV TOO STRONG FOR RACING

Champions League (qualifying rounds)
Strasbourg 2 Cohade 48' Abdessadki 78'
PSV Eindhoven 4 Culina 45'+1 Jerome 57' 59' Koevermans 90'+1

Strasbourg were welcomed to the European theatre by Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven. Despite a positive display by the Alsace outfit, the Eredivisie side proved too strong, eventually winning 4-2. The home side had managed to stay in the game for the majority of play, clawing their way back to 3-2, but as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser, PSV struck a fourth goal in stoppage time.

It doesn't get any easier for the Professor's side, as they now face an intimidating trip to Istanbul, to face Galatasaray SK in the next qualifier.

Congratulations Prof...strong season.
And yes Barda is strongely underrated in PES, he's by far Racing Genk's best player this season...(i would like to have Racing Genk and Standard in future PES version, now it's only Anderlecht and Brugge and i don't like these teams at all).

I've decided to continue my ML with Getafe which i can do from the moment that teamvision worked against me (i have a back-up) and i will also continue my Everton ML.

Everton is kind of good to do because in that team i see loads of players i've had in previous ML's:

Jagielka (last year i bought him for Reading)
Baines (i once did a Wigan ML with the default crew in PES5)
Johnson (bought him for Wigan)
Arteta (in my Real Sociedad ML)
Pienaar (was in my treble winning Parma team)

And Everton have won the merseyside derby: 0-2 at Anfield Road...i had 68% of ball possession...

I'm curious about trying something like this I'd like to know what kind of restriction do you guys put on yourselves when it comes to player acquisitions and picking up young players?

Whatever you like mate. I personally try to keep to what i would consider a realistic transfer. That is, realistic to the club you're playing as. Also, if a club ranked higher than you wants to buy one of your players, you ought to oblige and sell, even if it's your best player.

Remembering the past to return to the glory years

Although some Serie A teams from middle table tried to get the manager João Melo, he decided to choose Napoli. According to Melo, he was pleased with the project Napoli presented to him. Melo said: "I choose Napoli mainly for his great historic and I hope to help Napoli return to the glory days."

According to Melo, the stars players are: Gargano, Hamsik, Zalayeta, Blasi and the speed demon Lavezzi. "Lavezzi of course isn't Maradona but he will be a reference for the future generations of Napoli fans as well to future players who'll pass here." As for the captain, Melo opted for Dalla Bonna. "He has great experience and already played in big clubs like Chelsea and Milan. I'm sure he will help to put the team stronger again."
