Any recommendations for newsservers? Have a free one with my ISP but it isn't always reliable. Will be looking for a payserver for an 8mb connection and that I can pay easily, so no creditcard. Doesnt need to keep the files long either, 2 weeks is fine.
 
You should add spywareblaster.

I've got AVG, Spywareblaster and Spyware S&D as my protection and I hardly ever have problems, even when visiting dodgy sites.

Also when you've installed them do a safemode scan to really clean your pc if you don't want to do a reformat.
 
Same here, with AVG and Spybot S&D: I hardly had any problem with XP, and now that I'm using 7 it's going even better.
 
Good advice, fellas. I'd add Comodo too. Sadly it was a dirty spammer that posed the question.
 
I would personally always go to a proper pc specialist as they usually have one that fits your needs exactly and is reasonbly priced. And you can buy it without windows which can save 100e/pound.

All these "euroshopper" pc's and laptops never seem to be worth it to me.
 
Right got this problem, running on Windows Vista Premium, when I try to open task manager a command prompt comes up with a message which reads
"program too big to fit in memory" (Flashes very quickly)

Firefox won't open either, when I click the icon the loading sign on the mouse lasts a couple of seconds then doesn't open, obviously without a task manager I can't delete anything like that.

What do I do to fix this?

can someone please help me with something out ?
i play pro evolution soccer 6 and i ve got windows 7 and the problem is with kitserver ..
it doesnt work when i click on INSTALL button in kitserver setup because theres written something like "failed to install (no modifications) i dont know what that means so please tell me how i can fix the problem if it is possible actually ..

My laptop HP (running windows 7) has been acting really funny the last few days.

At times it will crash and go black with no warning. When i restart it, it either doesnt start or the screen is replicated like 8 times on the screen. Rarely it goes straight into windows but will no doubt crash again after a few hours.

I've run a windows memory diagnostic test and let it run it to 9 passes before i stopped it. It seemed fine so I guess RAM isn't the issue. Is there way for me to find out which component is actually at fault?
 
I haven't actually. It just seemed like a hardware issue and therefore it didn't cross my mind.

You think it will help?

EDIT: so good so far. looks like its working but will have to see in a few days to see if it crashes again

It sounds like either the graphics chip or the connection to the display. If it's possible to open it up you could see if there's anything obviously loose or damaged or find someone willing to do it for you (if it's cheap...). That said you could be right in getting a new machine being the more economical route.
 
I'm pretty sure its the gfx card too, especially with it sometimes display the screen 6 times. Also when it does blue screen i can make out nvidia in there somewhere.

I'll get it looked at in about a week but if its gonna cost more than £100 i think i'll just bin it.
 
before you bin it i might consider taking it off you cheap depending on the spec.

if you can open it up do so and look to see if the GPU is getting hot. it may need a new fan or some thermal paste underneath a heat sink as it maybe over heating

there's the spec. The battery is pretty much dead too, in fact windows is telling me to replace it.
I've checked the RAM and the HDD and apparently they are fine. Screen is ok too so it must be either the cpu or the gfx card. Like I say I'll try and get someone to open it in the next week or 2 to see if it can be fixed.

Honestly I think I will sell it and just buy a mac anyways. How much do you think the machine is worth?

got some scratched cd's with important data on. i can see all files listed, but not copy them - no thumbnails either. (pictures.) they are pretty badly scratched, wrong handling over the years...

will bringing the cd to some service that polishes out the scratches etc. do the trick or is it wasted money? might just get some of those clean-them-yourself kits but i think they are even more suspicious.
 
Well HP laptops are real craps i am now usin one for 2-3 years and i have had many prolems and rigt now the graphic card is going down so i wil have to throw my laptop away!!Dont buy HP many other people have said that they are very bad!!
