Even a point deduction wouldn't really do anything. They'd earn enough points to stay up that season, or if the point penalty is too large they'll go to the championship for a season and then come back up like nothing happened.

The only fitting punishment in my opinion is a permanent ban from the premier league.

If a point deduction and even permanent ban from the Premier League is good enough, why we should revoke all of major trophies Manchester City have won just like how Juventus had their two Serie A titles being revoked due to the Calciopoli in addition to the Serie B relegation (one of them were given to Inter Milan)? I don't think that's a good idea. In the first place, having those trophies being retroactively given to other clubs doesn't do anything for them really. Financial compensation should definitely be given to those other clubs though.

I think it would be hard to determine the years after the period where city's trophies should be taken away. For example, in 2019 and 2020 their squad 100% benefitted from signing players and breaking FFP regulations in the 2008-2018 time range, but can you say the same about their 2025 squad with the same level of certainty?

Same mate. And honestly, Spain won't become the greatest national football team in the world this century without Pep's revolutionized possession-based football (tiki-taka). They now have won 3 Euros and 2 World Cups; 3 of them were done back-to-back in 2008-2012.
But some people criticisied Pep Guardiola due to the bad reputations he had in the past with the team he plays/coaches, even before he conquered the football with Manchester City.

To be honest though most world class managers have only really succeeded with money. Chelsea are literally the reason why FFP exists, and Jose was with Chelsea for a large part of his success. And we all know about how many ridiculous refereeing decisions have gone Real Madrid's way, both in the 2010s and 2020s under various managers.

The truth of the matter is money can't really buy you success if you don't have a brilliant manager in charge of the team. Look at Jose in recent years; he's been a shadow of his past self, and even when he has been backed he hasn't had much to show for it. I would struggle to name a more consistent coach in the modern era. Nobody can guarantee footballing success at a level or consistency near to Pep Guardiola.

You're right.

Strip them of the trophies, Relegate them and then give them a points deduction so it's mathematically impossible for them to get promoted, calculate the amount of money they have made during their cheating period (which will be a collosal amount) force them to pay it back in its entirety and also give them the appropriate fine on top of that. Force them to come up with this money directly out of the club and not from the owner. Block any financial investment for the amount of time they cheated. Block any player purchases equal to the length of time they cheated. Block them from competing in any competitions outside of domestic football.

Can't really think of anything else but whatever it is needs to be just, meaning it needs to be severe.

Edit: I've got to also mention the knock on effect it has had on other clubs while they were cheating. It means teams like Man Utd in the earlier period and Liverpool in the later period would have collected more Premier League trophies, cups etc. Arsenal would probably have had more trophies too.
It completely altered which teams qualified for Europe, which teams got relegated and never recovered and things like that.
The entire table changes.

It was actually the premier League who brought in the independent body to investigate city. If the premier league wanted to keep it quiet they would have simply not started an investigation on them.
Considering what happend with Everton who commited minor offences id expect the punishment to be severe because the crimes of Manchester City (and I'm calling them crimes because it's rife with fraud). This isn't the odd offence they've committed that warrants what Everton got, this is 115 counts of breaching various things including financial fair play. Everton in effect got what you say was a slap on the wrist, City will get a dropkick to the head

It's even more corrupt, especially with the government's bureaucracy.
All Italian football stadiums bar the Juventus one in Turin were protected by the government. Most of the legendary stadiums (San Siro particularly) remain unchanged because of this. No stadium redevelopment plan.
And the Calciopoli scandal in 2006 is where the boat started to sink and caught fire.

One thing convicting a whole other thing dishing out a proper punishment, in this case stripping them of titles and relegating them down to perhaps L1

I dunno man but it's going to have to be a harsher punishment than other teams have received purely because of the amount of offences they've committed. I think it also warrants going through an actual court of law since it's fraud.

Not only have they cheated but they've crippled other teams like utd/Liverpool/Arsenal and Chelsea (well)
But also on a European scale in the CL.
Hope they get stripped of everything and relegated to the conference.
But I'm doubtful about how harsh it's going to be mate

Same thing with a stately run club like PSG, I'm so glad I live and support a club with 51 % rule and not middle Eastern,/USA owned but owned by us.
If the shoe don't fit we vote them out.
