I probably should give Tennis Elbow another go, as tried it a few times and just couldn't get into it.
Personally out of everything I tried Full Ace is the best tennis game.
I have tried TopSpin and TieBreak but they are both just absolute garbage.
Agree that i can't, and i tried multiple time, to get into Tennis Elbow. Because the engine feels like a PS2 one to be gentle.
Agree that the latest Top Spin is shit as hell... Not even comparable to Top Spin 4 which is the best overall game regarding physics/animations/coherence and "All in" play, acclaimed by all critics in the world.
You can compare it in term of fun, but not "sim" with a 8 bit game with zero impact of anything else than ball trajectories (tons of players positions not fitting with the ball trajectory), but what's always kill me is that the racket who don't even touch the ball (there's almost 2 or 3 pixels, when you shoot, between the racket and the ball) and just for that it deserves a red cross normally in our super high standard.
That's unfair and nostalgia based.
You can prefers it but even if i take others games from that era, Super Tennis was also at the same level of fun but with not "more control" but "more understanding" about what you're doing. ATP tour, in another style more like like Virtua Tennis.
Please bro don't play the KickOff/Sensible pro guy, it's not because you can only push the ball to advance that it's the best feeling of football you can get on the market. To me it's more unplayable and ugly, but i understand people who like it.
Now i'm a Tennis game fan enthousiath, so i love a lot of games in all generation... Except PS1 lol.
8bits/16 bits - Tennis Ace, "Tennis" (Master system), Wimbledon 8/16 Bits version, Final match Tennis too (of course ;-) ) on the "12 bits Supergrapfx, ATP Tour, IMG Tennis... I must forgot some of them.
Then Virtua Tennis 1 was a bomb when it was out, Arcade or not it was ultra fun, the 2 was even better (you can forget the 3 and 4 lol, they didn't kept the intensity of the two others).
Well i'm done with that talk, just a last paragraph about a game that i think no one talk and it's the sequel of FMT on Snes... I don't get why that game didn't get the same treatment as Nintendo's Super Tennis :
SNES Super Final Match Tennis/Jennifer Capriati Tennis in a certain way "correct" some stuffs from his "12" bits version :: the same but perhaps less fun as it's less fast, but better graphics, better animation, ball shooted on to the middle of the racket etc. but perhaps the ball aim a bit too much often on the pitch? Possible, and input needs perhaps less reactivity? I don't know but to me it's almost the same. I don't care and enjoy it. Super Tennis too is a good rival. Well i forgot many retro games and yes, there was tons of super ugly games but Overall it was the best era regarding Number of them vs Quality.
