Milan have identified two main targets to reinforce their defence next season: Lyon’s Anthony Reveillere and Hannover man Per Mertesacker.
It is well known that the San Siro side must bring in fresh blood to reinvigorate an ageing defence, as Paolo Maldini, Marcos Cafu and Alessandro Costacurta are all in their late 30s, while Jaap Stam has already agreed a move to Ajax in the summer.
They have been linked with a bid for 26-year-old right-back Reveillere for some months now and will get the opportunity to observe him up close when Milan meet Lyon in the Champions League next week.
The French outfit paid £3.3m to sign him from Rennes three years ago, having first made his mark as an Under-21 international.
Reports in the Corriere dello Sport today suggest that another defender is also on his way to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
It’s claimed that Hannover starlet Mertesacker has already signed a pre-contract agreement with the Rossoneri.
The 21-year-old stands at 1.96m and is a first team player in the German national side, with suggestions he was recommended to Carlo Ancelotti by former Milan man Oliver Bierhoff.
There are other options, such as Atletico Madrid defender Luis Perea, William Gallas of Chelsea and Lazio’s 30-year-old right-back Massimo Oddo.
