Spanish La Liga Thread

5 goals in one match, for me he's the best player in Spain. Especially when you consider that Falcao doesnt have the all-star supporting cast that Messi and Ronaldo have. It's like the driver of a Volkswagen keeping pace with drivers of Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

It's not a world-class group of players, but it's significantly better than every other team in La Liga...more like an Audi.

  • Adrían (Spain)
  • Courtois (Belgium)
  • Díaz (Argentina)
  • Godín (Uruguay)
  • Juanfran (Spain)
  • Rodríguez (Uruguay)
  • Sílvio (Portugal)
  • Turan (Turkey)
They also have a bunch of current U21 and U23 Spanish National Team players.

My Point: Falcao is really good, but could he do it on a cold, rainy Tuesday night in and with Stoke?

Better than Malaga? Significantly better than Valencia or Sevilla ? These teams have players like Demichelis, Toulalan, Nacho Monreal, Eliseu, Buonanotte, Isco, Fernando Gago, Soldado, Banega, Albeda, Ricardo Costa, Nelson Valdez, Adil Rami, Negredo, Medel, Fernando Navarro, Rakitic, Trochowski. I think it's much of a muchness, and that when you take Falcao out of the Atletico squad you are not left with a team that is clearly the third best in Spain.

Charlie Jackson about Messi :
"He hasn't broke chamakhs record, 6 consecutive goals in CL games."

:LMAO::LMAO::LMAO::LMAO::LMAO:

Even if I'm Moroccan this is just HILARIOUS.

So Diego Simeone claims that Barça are on another playing field . Why say the league is boring though? It sound more like sour grapes. I think his high pressing game was good ,but the players couldn't continue in that intensity . They just faded into the sunset and both score some amazing gols.

he does have a point though bebo, I find the Spanish league boring when the big two are involved.

I love watching the 'lesser' teams fixtures though like Malaga v Atletico and Valencia v Bilbao etc.

You could argue EPL is just same with Man City and Utd dominating but there are far more surprises and shocks in that league.

Everyone knows Barca will roll over everyone in La Liga, its not fun unless you are affiliated with the club.

I actually find Barcelona's football boring to watch now.

The dominance of both big clubs is boring, but i've been watching football for 42 years now and never, ever saw a team that played more attractive football than Barcelona.
There are a couple of teams that come close: AC Milan with the 3 Dutch players and later with Boban and Savicevic, Cruijff's Ajax and (above all) Crvena Zvevda (Red Star Belgrade).
But Barcelona are definitely better than those teams and an absolute joy to watch...

I don't think Simeoni meant this as "sour grapes", he has done a great job with Atletico and Atletico actually was good against Barcelona (if Falcao is as prolific as usual, Atletico could have scored 3 goals before Barcelona's first, i know that "ifs" are stupid, i just say that Atletico were actually very good). But in the end it just isn't enough because both bog clubs receive much more television money. It must be depressing for a splendid coach like Simeoni to play for a third or a second place at best...

That Milan side was incredible. There is no mistaking that Barca play an amazing, intelligent brand of football..Iniesta is my favourite player in World Football.

I suppose I am just fed up with tiki taka and all the sides that are trying to emulate it now. I am a fan of possession football but not possession for the sake of it (passing sideways and backwards for an hour each game).

I enjoy an exciting counter attacking side. I also loved watching Mourino's Porto and his first Chelsea team with Robben and Duff on the wings - he gets a lot of stick for 'defensive football' which is nonsense, that team were a joy to watch.

yh I agree that Chelsea team was good and effective, which is the same to Mutd . I think 'defensive football' is look at it as 'anti-football' when used as PLan A n B.

Rumours are Vilanova will be undergoing cancer treatment so best wishes to him.

As for this two team dominance it is not healthy for La Liga as a product when the title is effectively over by Christmas and the outcome of the title is generally decided by 2 El Clasico derbies.

Barcelona and Real Madrid need to realize this and step outside of their selfish bubble and go into a collective agreement with other clubs.

But would they ? I fear both have their eyes on a European Super League another blow in the face of football history and tradition and another made on the altar of mammon.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the other La Liga clubs boycott these 2 and see if they enjoy playing each other all season.

Falcao is not the best player in Spain either. It is Messi.

Tiki taka is not a Barcelona invention either. Watch Argentina under Bielsa.

Should Catalonia gain independence I wonder how that will affect the league and the Spanish national side as well.

Right now I can clubs in England and Germany rubbing their hands looking for a bargain in the January sales considering the finances of many Spanish clubs.

I've said this often: the other clubs should forfeit both matches against Barcelona and Madrid. After one season (or even sooner) there would be a fair deal about the television money.

If they are afraid of sanctions: play youth teams against both giants.

And their fans should support them: not coming to the matches against both big clubs.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. Look at what happened after the Glazer take-over at Man Utd. How many really left Man Utd for United of Machester ? 500 ? Clubs like that have millions of fans...

Falcao vs Messi, not even a little bit

Wales play in BPL , Canada in MLS ... I wouldn't see a problem w/ independence from Spain and BBV really.

I also see Spanish market very enticing .

I suppose that could happen Bebo as with the case of Swansea and Cardiff and formerly Wrexham and Newport County included in the English pyramid as a historical 'accident'.

They would remain in La Liga as it wouldn't be much sense for them to knock Tarragona and Lleida for ten each match.

Although these clubs could form their own Catalonian league if they wanted and field junior sides in it. If Catalonia gained independence then surely it would not be long before the Basque country demanded the same along with Basques on the French side of the border.

Given the financial problems in Spain and Greece where Panathinaikos have to play all their matches in daylight (as they cannot afford to play for the electricity) I'd be running over and seeing which players could be bought for below their market value.

Someone like Rami might be a good fit for Arsenal say.

Oh dear o` me...Pellegrini does the business. I don`t ever recalling see Iker on the bench before especially in a league match.

Mou what are you doing!?@!

I rate this pellegrini guy so highly. first villarreal, now malaga. if only riquelme didn't miss that pen against arsenal, right bebo? :P

i never understand why Real let Pellegrini go at first place..imo his Real team was good!

Real fans need to be patient this days (next years), Barca are probably on their way to be the team of 21. century...

just look at their B team only...

as RM fan I totally agree with this statement. Some guys are already asking for Mourinho to be changed at RM, but seriously, is there any free (without job) manager that is better than Mourinho? Maybe Guardiola, but anyone who has a bit of sense can't expect him to take charge at RM. Mourinho is great manager (albeit a bit arrogant and not always 100% fair at press conferences and on touchline) and RM board has to give him time he needs to shake up this team and win what they still can this season (copa del rey and CL) and to give him another chance next year.

You need Del Bosque

Florentino Perez........

It has become more of a circus than a club. A plaything. Mourinho is planning his exit. It has to be a given that Mourinho and Ronaldo move to Eastlands.

Which will no doubt go down well with Manchester United fans.

So the entire team of the year (Balloon D'or voting) comes from La Liga this season. Obviously there are many that should be in there (Ronaldo, Messi etc) but seriously? The whole team? Regardless of the fact that there wasn't a Spanish team in the finals of the CL? It's not like Barca and Madrid doing well in the league is a shock at this stage.

No Hummels? Not a single Bayern player? No RVP or Kompany? Pirlo?!

The back four says it all. This team of the year is just sponsor/media beauty pagent now, anyone with more than a passing knowledge of football would know to have a back line like that as the best of 2012 is a joke.

Put it this way, if you had a limitless amount of money, you wouldnt pick any of that back four. PSG didnt break the bank on Ramos or Pique, they spend a huge sum on Thiago Sliva, who is one of a number of pure, out and out defenders, who are amongst the best (others being players Hummels, Chiellini, maybe even Subotic or Kompany).

The team of the year ? Very simple the eleven Chelsea players who won the CL last year...the biggest trophy. I don't believe in those hypothetic teams although it is fun to diuscuss them...

Well in that case, shouldn't Corinthians be the best 11? They beat Chelsea, so are officially the best club in the world.

I also agree, Thiago Silva in 2012 was absolutely incredible, and best defender I've seen in years.

I agree on both counts Stef...

Agreed. Alves not only wasn't very good last season, I don't think he won a single trophy?

Laughable decision.

This was Alves's worst year. Not only did he play mediocre, but he missed a huge chunk of it through injuries. Not impressive at all. Doesn't even matter what trophies he may or not have won.

Torres, for instance, Won the CL, FA Cup and Euro becoming the top scorer of the latter. (This is not a Torres joke/meme :P he just popped in my head as having the most trophies I can think of)
