Sony PlayStation

Doesn’t seem to be a post for Age of Empires 4 directly.
But I just got an email from Microsoft asking if I would like to join the upcoming BETA for Age of Empires 4 on PS5.
So another top Microsoft game is now making its way to PS5.

Fable confirmed for PS5, same time as Xbox

Never played Fable but still more excited about this than Avowed, coming to PS5 next month.

Little bit off-topic, but still ...
Is all power of modern PS5 was made for release of such games ?

Never had my PSN account hacked.
However to get back into my account despite me knowing everything I needed to know to access the account.

All Sony needed from me in the end was a transaction ID from a purchase, they wouldn't let me in by knowing password address what games I owned or anything personal.
Once I gave them a transaction ID they let me do whatever I wanted, change the email, reset the password and remove MFA to sign in very easily.

Not sure if this is real or not but apparently you can also bribe someone inside PS Support to get any account you want.

Glad to see an Until Dawn 2 although isn't developed by SuperMassive Games so probably going to be a disappointment and in the trailer it looks very poor.
Wolverine looks identical to Spider-Man but I am sure that will be a pretty decent game when it is released.
Glad they are making another Silent Hill, although personally thought Silent Hill F wasn't actually that great.
Tomb Raider looks like they have gone back to puzzle solving and a mixture and action - I did really enjoy the games from 10 years ago.
Not excited about anything else.

Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of the original Tomb Raider.

I guess physical media will be going away... which is the trend, however there are some negative points to this, buying old games, secondhand market and well what if sony/whoever decides to not host the game in their servers anymore.
Well, it totally is a trend and those issues you correctly listed are not the only negatives. And sure, GTA 6 (Rockstar) is to blame: no physical copies, just download codes sold in a box. The other negative: the 80 dollars <--> 100 dollars price tag might (will) make other devs also kick up their price all the same. Makes me absolutely MAD that some "gamers" already came with the "meh... GTA 6 could cost 250 dollars, it would be worth it, and I'd pay for it" rhetoric, without even realizing a hint of the "big picture".

Seriously, people like this deserved the freakin' guillotine.

This is such a huge issue. I dont think the "normal" people who play games realise how bad this all is. We have headed in a direction where ALL games require an internet connection, servers to exist and a license agreement to remain intact.

Essentially all games have silently become a subscription service with a large upfront payment.

The StopKillingGames campaign could fix this. Although its going to be a tough ask for these companies to stop building games in such a way that they would have to make them work offline.

Playstation has a decent install base across the world and in some big countries where internet speed doesn't really make downloading games digitally a realistic proporsation, how will they deal with this and surely they won't abandon those markets given everything that they do now is all about the bottom line.

Weird they announce this right after doing this:

Sony is deleting over 500 purchased movies from PlayStation Store accounts

90% of my library is digital, my preference is still to get digital, but I'd like to have options. When I want to try an old game I can jump on ebay and get the physical one for $5, while it is de-listed from the digital store.

The whole "no more discs" thing - I can't be a hypocrite so I can't really be angry about it, despite knowing what it means and knowing what we will lose.

When servers go offline and games just stop working (not just in terms of online play), that's obviously a disgrace - I'm astonished that it's still legally a "non-issue" to do so. As I've read a few times, "if buying isn't owning, pirating isn't stealing" (and I don't want to pirate anything if I can pay the creator for it instead).

But... When did I last buy something on a disc (despite buying disc versions of my consoles)? A very long time ago. Would I ever buy physical media ever again given the choice? No, because I'm lazy, and I'd rather delete a game from my HDD to install a new one for the rest of time than get off my arse and change a disc. (Especially seeing as discs need to install and take up the same HDD space anyway.)

It's awful for those who don't have good internet connections and/or massive HDDs. But business is business; Sony are looking at manufacturing costs versus revenue, and going "why are we doing this to ourselves". We'd all do the same if we were in charge. It'd be stupid not to.

Yes, it's a shame we can't go back to v1.0 of a game once this happens, especially when it comes to football games; how often their balance has been wrecked by gameplay updates for online players, and it'll happen again I'm sure. But when it does, I'll just not play that game any more.

I have a FIFA 16 disc that works with my PS5, for example, and I could force it to stay at v1.0 by cancelling updates every time they try to download (or disabling the internet connection). Do I do that? No, because it's easier to just take the update and play a slightly worse game.

I have maybe 3 PS4 games on disk, and zero PS5 games. Games wise this is not a big deal for me personally. But I have always bought disk consoles because they play dvd and blu-ray/uhd.
So I will need to keep an older console around for that.
And make no mistake, this is bad news all round. The industry is in big trouble and things will only get worse.

Still... It indicates to one point, PS6 & beyond will likely be digital only from the looks of it.
Unless they have some kind of license transfer from disc to digital I can see my old PS4 discs going obsolete.

The used game market will be dead in the future because of this.

I still go to shops that have PS2, PS1 and N64 games. Just the moment of seeing a cart or game from that time, looking at the back of the box again and getting fully excited is still amazing. Recently got the Prince of Persia Games for PS2 and that I can do that is just great. Can't imagine a future where this is basically not.possible anymore.

To be honest since the "disc" format (so, long time ago) i can't tell that having a Disc format is still enjoyable ... And durable.
I for example, if i decide to make a Retrogaming collection, it would be very limited to all console with cartridge for playing. Disc are too fragile, if i buy some of them it would but just for collection...

And even, only Megadrive did great boxes and of course NeoGeo (but the package, damn). Snes was all in cardboards except some ultra package for Dragon Quest i don't remember. And to get one right now in a perfect state, there's protected place i saw in the YT French emission were 3 (now 4 for the 4th season) are going to Japan Gaming-Toys store where you can found some of them, at an incredible price...

But they found recently, in two place (one was a museum back, where there was complete big boxes of any games you want : he found almost a pile of around 30++ River City Ransom under blister... It totally crazy when you compare all of that thoses games prize brought by some collectors around 300 euro lol.
Also, another real store which was totall mess because the (pretty old) boss never ranged the boxes full of games he received and they're totally new : you pay the price from 30 years ago indicated on the blister that man don't know how rich he could be, that episode was totally crazy. Perhaps... No probably the craziest i've seen on the serie.

Now, let's come to reality : as i said i carried to get almost tne box to place them in expose (even if it's made with feet and low quality plastic) espcially for all games like for example From Software games. Not for the BluRay inside.
Then, little by little, i brought less and less games but only when there's special promotions, because when i compared often the price on Amazon, Rakuten etc. it was almost 15-20 euros less and free delivery : so in normal time i tooked the one costing the less when the game was out. If i got to buy a box with a paper on it : okay, i don't care.
Time after time i got used to get games by taking them on the store on non-physical. Because i prefers having a full package of games i can play and switch in 10 second without moving my ass, but i get one game i've brought on the 3 purposed games of the month and i noticed that i play it much more than when i got to remove the old, putting the new every time i wanted to play no more than 20 minutes.

Now i think it's too soon for it : they need to found a way to sold or exchange demat' game on a special store, even on internet.

If Sony did that, that was because there was a crisis due to American and China transports prices who gets far higher due to new law + others things i'm not too interested to know : just that they needed to found something to change that may arrange them regarding all that import shit or we would lose Playstation for good. And i personnally don't want it as i play essentientially games from Sony and exclusive (they're not exclusive for nothing : because they're great with very very rare exception)
Just don't want no PS on the market, i don't care at all right now about the PS6 for the moment + than i'm more buying year 2 than day one so.

It is 2026 and I know I am a PC gamer and been completely digital since Half Life 2 in 2004 and for me personally back then Steam revolutionised the way I bought games, no longer did you have to buy a physical disk and install a game - Even if you buy physical games now they still install on PS5.
When Steam did this I much preferred it from Day 1.
I have not bought a physical game even for PS since probably the PS3.

What are PS5/Console gamers so against about moving to fully digital?
OK you don't open a new game on Christmas day, but pretty certain that was OUR childhood and not kids today - I am sure now most parents will buy games on launch rather than for Christmas.

I am not sure what games are like on console and the specific stores but on Steam if a game is removed from sale, then it is still available for you to download if it is in your library.

TBH, I am shocked it has taken consoles 20 years to follow PC and move to fully digital - Games are simply way to big now to fit on physical media and it should of died a long time ago.
