Rock Band Thread

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

He said to me he would try it and get back to me, but he didn't get back to me. You could give a fake address but that's a bit dodgy when it comes to a credit card.

So I get a new one every time yeah, but I load it up with as much money as possible so I don't have to spend £3 on each card too often.

Ah, I did didnt I!? - Sorry bout that - when I tried to make it reloadable, I found out I'd run it down again (it costs £3 to make the card reloadable - and if you dont have enough on the card to do that, it becomes useless, which is stupid). Anyway, instead of getting yet another card, I went for Entropay, which is a VISA card done online (they give you the number, exp date etc) and you can top it up anytime from your bank account. All works fine etc and I've been getting DLC from that for the last few weeks.

Just picked up my Rock Band! WOOHOO!!

Unfortunately I don't have my PS3 yet though  It's pretty gutting staring at the equipment and not being able to use it yet :(

The guitar looks well impressive, how come it's got a second set of buttons down the bottom of the neck? Not sure I like the trigger without a click, feels weird.

The drums look pretty fancy, can't wait to have a go on those!

Roll on next week Friday!

Excellent news Dags (and congrats on the PS3 bargain too!). THe second buttons are 'solo' buttons and allow you to play the solos only down there - for a) style and b) without using the strummer to hit the notes. Its hard, but can be fun.

Good to see the Euro DLC out next week too - prob get Beetlebum as I love that and maybe Rock N Roll star.

As for the existing US pack - obviously down to taste, but I recommend the Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) pack, Nine Inch Nails Pack, Metallica Pack, Oasis Pack and some other favourites I've got are, Roam (B52s), My Sharona (The Knack), Hard to Handle (Black Crowes) and Buddy Holly (Weezer).

Be warned though, the Metallica pack is VERY hard, QOTSA is hardish and NIN is odd as the songs are heavy on the keyboards (which they've mapped to the guitar?)

Anyway, drop us a line when you are up and running Dags and we can try some MP...

Am I supposed to get a USB hub with the Special Edition? I'm reading some reports saying I should and some say it doesn't ship with a hub?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Mine didn't, but I had a spare powered USB hub in the house, thank God.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Does it have to be powered?

Gonna stop at my parents tomorrow with Rock Band and use my brothers PS3 for a bit, I can't have it sitting here laughing at me while I dream about playing it, I'll just kick my bro off and tell him to come back in a few hours :)

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

I think I read that it didn't have to be but a few people with normal hubs had a few problems and lockups occasionally.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

I used a powered hub, but I think it was faulty as it kept cuttng the mic off - I have a 60gb anyway, so I just plug everything in the front.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

I want to buy this game again now :((.

Edit: Just checked on the play.com website and added the Rock Band in a box and the Rock Band Solus to my basket and the total was £139.98. Just curious because in this thread it says £133 total?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Took my Rock Band to my brothers earlier ... wow. The game is Guitar Hero on steroids!

Played about five songs on quick play, then started a Band World Tour with my girlfriend (me on guitar and her on drums), loved it :) It's interesting how you can rescue someone using your energy bar, the guitar solos are pretty interesting but I didn't realise that you could just use the other fret buttons and not have to strum :(

There was one song, I think the Deep Purple one? HARD as hell on medium due to having to thrash away real quick on the strum bar. Not having the click really is off-putting for me, and for some reason the strum bar feels "spongy" and a lot different to the X-Plorer guitar that I'm used to. It will take a bit of getting used to but it's a nice guitar. The lever to change your guitar effects was pretty sweet :)

Band World Tour makes GH3's career mode look like pants. Being able to design your own character and band, choosing which songs you want to play and where you want to play them, just so much better.

The animations going on behind the notes look excellent, again far better than the GH animations which never seemed to change.

Some of the songs I looked at and thought "meh" (Garbage's "I Think I'm Paranoid" come to mind) and I thought I'd hate to play them but they were actually really good! Some of the songs feel long as hell, there was one which went on for aaaaages, and then kicked back off again!

I've received an email from the guy telling me my tracking number of my PS3 and it's guaranteed to be delivered tomorrow. I'm absoloutely gutted :( I've waited far too long for this game since it was announced, and of all the weeks when I finally get it, I'm on a bloody course for a week :( Roll on Friday evening!!

Can't wait to play online with the guys who have it on the PS3 :)

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

On a seperate note. When I fire up the game, should I play it on my US account? As I'll have to buy the DLC through my US account but will my UK account still pick up the DLC on my machine? I'm assuming it would but I don't want to start a career on my UK account only to find the US DLC wont work with it.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

If I were you I'd buy from a US account and then play on your normal account. If in the future a PSN is like a gamertag, you'll want all the data on the games you've played under one account.

All the DLC on the machine can be read by all the accounts.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Jack - i remember you saying you wanted the pigeon detectives and a bit later i heard a track of theirs on radio 1 and thought 'that wouldn't work on Rockband' ... but heard this on the euro 2008 game and i agree with you now... this has to be dlc!

We'll have to sort out a ps3 list of gamers for some play before the 360 version is out and we get lost in the shuffle

PBB, can you tell me if the Rock Band mic works with Singstar?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

No, apparantly it doesnt. I havent tried, I just took the word I read for it.

BUT, the Singstar mic DOES work with Rockband. I tried that (to save swapping them over) and it was recognised, but it wasnt as responsive as the proper RB mic. I didnt play with any of the Mic settings in RB though (I have my sensitivity and volume low) - so maybe if you change the settings it will work better.

I'm not sure if you can do it with 2 seperate USB mics, but I did read of someone who cut the cable of the RB mic, spliced another one in and can now sing duets with someone else!

If you like singing and guitaring, then do what I have done and buy a cheap mic stand from Ebay (about £15) and then it DOES feel like nothing else - playing guitar and singing at the same time. It also means you can do the World Tour 'yourself' as 2 characters (world tour must be 2+ people).

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

I just paid £140 for mine, I thought that was pretty decent.

Shame you didn't say this earlier Jay, I'd have bought yours off you. You're a hell of a lot closer than the marathon drive to near Blackburn I had to do :(

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Does all your equipment work or is it a bit iffy jay?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

I'm gonna sell some stuff to fund my purchase of Rock Band .
