Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Not got the patch myself yet, but apparantly the 'Purchased' thing is fixed? Everyone got it, so I dont think its connected to us looking from the UK...

It's still the same now, i think we get the song from Portal for free this week.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

I was wondering if we'd get any DLC this week with the psn stone being on hold

Nope. nothing for 2 weeks - but anything the 360 gets, the PS3 will get when the store re-opens - including the free portal song...

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

UK, April 8, 2008 - Electronic Arts has at long last settled on an official European release date for Rock Band. However, don't get too excited unless you're an Xbox 360 owner – the May 23 launch on Microsoft's console will doubtless please 360 owners, but those hoping to jam on PlayStation 3, PS2 and Wii will have to wait until later in the summer. Initially it will only be available in the UK, France and Germany too, with other European territories to follow.

Perhaps more disappointing is the price: unlike the US, which received a Special Edition that includes the game, a Fender Strat guitar, the drum kit and a mic, all for $169 – Europe will only get an Instrument Edition priced £129.99 / 169 Euros, including the three peripherals but not the game – which, bought separately, will set you back £49.99 / 69.99 Euros. So, if you want the proper Rock Band experience, the minimum you're going to have to shell out is around £180 / 240 Euros.

Quite why EA has decided to release the Instrument Pack without the game is anyone's guess, although it's likely retailers will bundle the two together, if not at launch then hopefully shortly after. In addition, wireless guitars will be available separately for the princely sum of £59.99 / 79.99 Euros, with standalone drum kits setting you back £69.99 / 89.99 Euros.

There is some good news though. In addition to the 58 songs featured in the US game, Europe will get eight news tracks from English, French and German bands, all bundled on the disc:

- Beetlebum (Blur)
- Rock 'n' Roll Star (Oasis)
- Hysteria (Muse)
- Manu Chao (Les Wamaps)
- New Wave (Playmo)
- Hier Kommt Alex (Die Toten Hosen)
- Perfekte Welle (Juli)
- Countdown to Insanity (H-Block X)

What's more, the 70-plus downloadable tracks already available in US will be waiting for European rockers come May 27, priced 160 MS points each. Plus, US players can get their mitts on the eight European tracks around the same time. Quick recap then: if you want to the ultimate Rock Band experience, with two guitars and every song at your fingertips, be sure to put aside £330 / 430 Euros. On a positive note, going forward, Europe will have access to new downloadable songs at the same time as the US.

I'll be passing for a LONG while. I just can't justify spending more than £150 to play a computer game.

I'll be passing for a LONG while. I just can't justify spending more than £150 to play a computer game.

Especially as the main part of the game is multiplayer ONLY so you'll only get your moneys worth if you have 2 or more people with you willing to play the game everytime you want a bash.

Otherwise you're stuck to Guitar Hero style charts where you play 5 songs, unlock 5, play them unlock 5... continue... replay for high scores

Gets a bit dull

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Wow! That is an amazing decision - money grabbing bastards! How on earth can they justify that, when the US version is ~£80!!! :D

Glad I imported...

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Wow again! Thats a mad statement! Aside from, as you say, the relatively plod through the single player game - which covers all the peripherals, so you are basically getting Guitar Hero, Drum Mania and Singstar in one package - you can also get a mic stand (as I have) and play through the multi-player World Tour mode on your own.

Plus you can play with mates, or if (again, like me :)) you dont have any, then online play with strangers is great. Hopefully they are also going to patch the online MP with the World Tour mode.

Far from dull!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

I've just remembered I can use my GH guitar for RB :D So I don't actually need the full package. I'll buy the game for as cheap as little and pick up the drums on the cheap shortly after. Apparantly any USB mic will work so I'll get one of those cheap too :)

So let's say I pick the game up for £30, drums for ... £50? and a mic for £10? That's £90, half the price of what they want me to pay, and more reasonable.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Rock Band songs are 80 MS points in the USA? They're 160 points here in Europe, twice as much again. Robbing bastards EA.

I was just meaning that the guitar hero style solo mode gets dull once you've done it all --- yes you can always go back to beat your scores or perfect expert --- but thats it!

I tried singing myself and the pitch detector is shite - ill put a low bass voice on and it will shoot up high - ill try a high note and it will hang around the middle or shoot up to the top and then immediately drop --- it seems to be very hit and miss and therefore i failed everything after the first 2 sections where it became more difficult

So thats why i said - if you cant have friends round and cant play BWT on your own and you're left with solo modes it gets a bit dull.

I'm still playing it now - but once you've played BWT for a while going back down a step to solo play lacks a lot -

online solo games are fun but the lack of any scores or stats to track etc... just leaves me wanting to play some BWT

THink with the voice thing, isnt it done in octives to allow for all types of voices? I.e. you can sing an octive higher or lower as long as its in the right key?

Probably got that all arse about face, but I know something like that is in for the singing.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3

Apparantly EA have stopped registration to their forums now, I presume because so many people are registering to express their disgust at the price of RB.

So I went to the forums link to check ... and the site is down

Good old EA :)

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

quick question for you guys, am i correct in thinking that we would be able to buy the acessories in the us and buy the english game for the 360??surely that would work out cheaper??any one confirm?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

You should be able to but without the UK game in our hands nobody can confirm it. It's 99.9% likely though, I can't see them making the PS3 recognise the peripherals as US peripherals.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

surely though if you already have sinstar or GH then you only need to buy the game and the drun kit?

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Surely. But it's a lot of money without knowing 100% definitely! ;) I would risk it myself because like I say I can't imagine the PS3 can detect where it's from, much less actually restrict you because of it. You could always join the official Rock Band forum and ask a member of staff to be 100% sure.

For PS3, the GH guitar definately does NOT work - and I am not sure about the Singstar mics... dont think they do, but not 100% sure.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Of course, sorry, forgot about that. I read the GH2 guitar works? I think? And the GH3 one doesn't.

According to the Rock Band manual though "any USB mic will work", that's what it says, so I can't see why the Singstar one wouldn't.

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Jesus, where am I gonna get £180 by next month?!

GTAIV, Euro08, Rockband... :((

Make it £260

I'm 99.9% sure that NO other guitars work with PS3 Rockband - 360 is another matter as the GH3 ones DO, but I dont think older ones do.

Good news on the mics tho - wonder if it works the other way - i.e. Rockband mics work with Singstar. I loikes Singstar!

Re: Rock Band - Harmonix, 360 / PS3 - £133 total from Play.com

Cool!

I found a couple of US sites i can get it from for PS3 for £120 max!

Cannot wait. Love the region free-ness of the PS3

UK Gamers Told To Stop Moaning Over Price Of Rock Band

One of the makers of the very expensive Rock Band game has told annoyed UK gamers that the price will stay the same and not all the grumbling the world is going to change it.

It’s a new approach to smoothing ruffled feathers, I’ll grant you, but at least Greg LoPiccolo, the head of product development at Harmonix, took time out on the company blog to address some of the issues surrounding the controversial price tag.

Rock Band is eagerly awaited by tens of thousands of Guitar Hero fans but news that the game, plus the instruments, was going to around £160-180, rocked fans to the bottom of their wallets. After all, the same bundle costs around £75 in the US.

LoPiccolo wrote:

“We’re not gouging you, primarily because doing so doesn’t serve our interests. We can only build our franchise if you buy our games. You may conclude that Rock Band isn’t worth the price charged, and that is your prerogative. But it’s not magically going to get cheaper because you wish it to be so.

“We’re not making a killing on Rock Band in Europe. We are incredibly sensitive to pricing issues. We are painfully aware that the higher the price we charge, the less copies we’ll sell. That is true of any nonessential commodity; it’s not rocket science. The fact of the matter is, the costs of releasing in Europe are far higher than in the US, in some ways uniquely so for Rock Band compared to other game titles, because of the size of the peripherals.”

“Seriously, I was shocked to learn how much it costs us to ship an RB peripherals box to Europe. It’s way more than you’d expect.”

While I understand that shipping costs, and the VAT effects of pricing in the UK, can push up the price of any product, I feel many gamers will still be wondering how this amounts to a price hike of almost £100.-Martin Lynch
