Portuguese Liga Sagres

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Actually...:

18 Benfica Por
03/04: 13.3825
04/05: 13.6950
05/06: 17.8150 Koeman's season
06/07: 18.6675 Fernando Santos's season
07/08: 13.6160

There hasn't been that much discrepance between seasons, comparing with Sporting or FC Porto, for example.. so I think that idea is wrong.

In that year of F.Santos, did you reach the quarter finals? In the CL.

BTW I was refering only to the CL. Last time Porto was in the UEFA CUP we won it. :)

No, we were 3rd placed on group stage and reached the quarter finals on UEFA cup.

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

I also thought we were talking about European performance. As for titles I'll take the League title over any cup anyday, and we won it more recently than Sporting.

In terms of European performance, well, Sporting can't compare to us, sure, they made it to an UEFA cup final, but didn't win. You're still known as Sporting "Lisbon" or just "Lisbon" around Europe. We are Benfica everywhere around the world. ;)

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Well..I've given myself the trouble to get this, maybe some of you will get how laughing this discussion is...

These are the times Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting reached the final, semi finals, and quarter finals of european competitions:

I think it speaks for itself ;) Now, you still have some decades to catch us.. Benfica alone, reached those stages more times than Sporting and Porto put together.

Even Sporting Gijon is more known than that Sporting Lisbon.

Ok mate;-)

Keep on living your "glorious past"...

wait! Is a win on a uefa game give the same points as win in a cl game?

I still consider Koeman year to be miles better than the F.Santos year.

UEFA does things in a rather strange way...

Yes..."glorious".

Really bad sign for Sporting when Benfica, on their worst period of it history (last 20 years), still managed to do a lot better than Sporting..

Yes, it gives the same points but you get extra points on CL, for example, if you reach the group stage, quarter finals..etc.
I understand what you mean, beating Barcelona on group stage isn't exactly the same thing beating Odense on UEFA cup group stage, but if they give even more points to those on CL, smaller clubs will never get a chance on that competition because of the team ratings..

But yes, I understand your point.

Benfica fans never talk about the present, it is allways about the past...
What about the past 2/3 years?
No titles isnt it?
;)

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Past 2/3 years Porto won all the IMPORTANT titles.

Not all...

In this past 3 years Porto won three Leagues and one Portugal cup, and Sporting won two Portugal cups...

To me the Portuguese League title is the important one. The cup is a consolation prize of sorts. The chanpionship is what you work for the entire season.

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Vitória de Setúbal won Carslberg Cup this year and Benfica the Portuguese Supercup three years ago. You forgot it.

Bwin Liga > Portugal Cup > Carslberg Cup > Portuguese Supercup

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

I forgot a supercup by Sporting, this year...

In my oppinion its:

Bwin Liga > Cup > Supercup > Carlsberg Cup

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

How nice! Seems that UEFA has banned Porto for a year from the CL.

There seems to be different rules for different clubs.

Oh well, it's going to a crap year. There will be an appeal, but I doubt it will do anything.

Congratulations for Benfica for after all entering the CL.

They have to pass the qualifying round first, and personnaly i hope they dont...

Portugal is really screwed this year in the C.L, with only Sporting trying to pass the group stage...

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Nah, I don't want that. We need points.

But I admit that if they dont't get in I won't be upset. Considering the people who are behind all this.

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Thanks to FCP!

Did you think it would be like in Portugal, corruption without punishment?
UEFA aren't the portuguese corrupts..

I found it so ridicoulously stupid hearing Pinto da Costa and Porto fans saying that we couldn't achieve it on the field, we had to get to it on off field moves...when they are being punished precisely by have making corruption outside the field. Ahaahahaa!

If we only had Sporting trying to pass the group stage we would, because they never did, but Benfica usually goes through on those qualifying rounds...don't forget Benfica is the team who got more points for us in the UEFA ranking...so..;) (yes, search a bit before making any comment...)

A little bit of justice was made. I don't even care if it was Benfica who was going or some other club, I just wanted to Porto had a little justice from what they do...and we all know that that's impossible in Portugal..

Nice one assumed corrupts! ;)

Any problem?

Do you think that Guimarães, will pass the group stage?

If you read my post well, you will see that i used the verb trying, so i am not saying that Sporting will pass the group stage for sure...

We only had Mourinho. And those two games didn't count for anything. So don't go around saying that we won the league because of those two games. That's a lie. Plain and simple.

That's another lie from you.

When you played against Amadora, you had 5 points in advance, while the next game was against second placed Sporting away..so, if you didn't win Amadora, and you lose against Sporting the week after that (which isn't uncommon, as you know), they would take the lead over you. Search before posting, don't believe on every lie your president says... Trying to get Mourinho on conversation to prove you wouldn't need..that's so low...

Re: Portuguese bwin.com Liga

Lie? Not it's not a lie! It's low we had the best coach in the world? Is it low that we owned the league? We didn't need those games, remember that we crushed Sporting 4-0 at the beginning? We won you!? We cruised the league that year!
Porto had more to complain in that game against Estrela! It was said in court!

Well why don't you talk about Beira-Mar?

1. Seems like having the "best" coach in the world isn't enough..;)

2. Yes, if Benfica offered prostitutes to the referees maybe we would win that league easily too.

3. Porto-Sporting 4-1...on matchday 4. yeah, but what's that relevance on that..if that was so, Benfica should have won the title the year we beat you 2-0 away and 1-0 home.

4. Those who give their view on the plays, are former referees, considering what FC Porto have been doing since Pinto da Costa joined the club, it's not difficult to understand they're biased. Besided, obviously they don't want to drag the Referees image to the dirt. Besides, what's the relevance on that? You tried to corrupt them. Stop.

5. Interesting of you bringing up the other match. Beira Mar-Porto. You also were 5 points ahead. So any bad result would put pressure on the team again, if they failed the league wasn't theirs. Matchday 30;)

The former referees, one of them is J.Coroado a know hater of FCP. I've grown tired of seeing that guy bash FCP. But on a court of law he had to tell the truth.

We didn't won the Beira-Mar game.

Now the only things that worries me is that since FCP won't be in CL, we will probably be called champions by november. It's just a month earlier than this season. :)
And it worries me cause, it will probably mean I will watch much less football next season. It's not motivating watching football when you know the result. :)

Oh yeah. About 3. It was only to show that we kept a consistenly high level throught the season.
I'm sorry you can't see we were better that year on the pitch.

EDIT: About point 2. When was it proven that Porto offered whores to anyone? Not in any court.
