Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Its pretty obvious the settings were on low. We've seen enough proof that graphics look stunning. Now let the gameplay be as hot then I won't be leaving my home.

wonder if he'll dive, then foul, then look at the ref for help and get awarded a penalty in PES2010 too?

That was shocking yesterday...

incredible details, PES lifelike Rooney murders FIFA's plastic Rooney

there is still dive option in PES you know :)

btw, wanted to say 'coz thought it was obvious, but the faces are fully 3D in PES 2010. No more bmp over structure - everyone is unique

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Why do they NDA a picture in this phase of developement? We have already seen video's etc.
Weird... :CONFUSE:

Because the press still don't have the finished game, so any screenshots they post will be from an unfinished version.

Imagine you run a company and are launching a product, do you want people's first impressions of the it coming from an unfinished version?
Given the nature of people dissecting every little detail of every screenshot Konami release themselves, it's pretty understandable why they, and every other company, don't allow 'work in progress' shots from their games.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Wow that Rooney pic looks better than he bloody does.
And that is whit LOW level of graphic quality ;)

Of course they are fully 3D, same was in PES 2009

Adam dont know anything about computer graphics then... wtf is a fully 3d face?? Pes faces, as Fifa ones, are 3d mesh, with a bmp as a texture, and a UV function that maps every pixel of the projection of the mesh in the screen to a pixel in the texture.

If that's true, whats the fuss arround Fifa faces being 3D aka being able to make expressions easilly and PES, because it's just a texture, won't be able to such expressions?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The main difference between Fifa's faces and PES ones is the texture in my opinion. Fifa seem to make an original texture, I mean not using a picture as Konami do.

But I wonder how people can think that PES faces aren't 3D :LMAO: Of course they are !

because in FIFA ones they're built with fully animated facial expressions animations while PES ones only semi animated or they just put photographs as textures on top of a non animated 3D head models.

however I agree, nobody expect these players talking or showing a lot of emotions there so why bother with full animated faces?

I thought that was they way it was done now. Madden, NBA 2K series. This all build with fully animated facial expressions dont they?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

On PES faces are multiple textures (for front face, neck and side skin, ears and teeth) on one file, each file means one player face. They then apply into the 3D full blank model. I always thought that on Fifa every face was an individual 3D model.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Tbh, are Fifa's faces that expressive ?

I've played Fifa 09 some times, and I didn't notice "astonishing fully realistic expressions"...

Some people (not here ^^) talk as if faces in PES were static, but we all know that's not true ! A player can smile when he scores, open the mouth when being tackled, and frown as well...

The only thing that doesn't move on a player face is his beauty spot (if he has one) :P

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Re: The faces,

From what I understand FIFA's head model has separate elements, the eyes can move freely from the rest of the model, maybe the interiour of the mouth aswell. Also it's built up from multiple textures and procedures enabling a player to have "sweat", separate textures for eyes, lashed, etc.

PES' is more basic in that its a mesh (with animation points that stretch the texture) with the texture being all-in-one. So the eyes can't be animated separately.

Thats what I remember from the same discussion last year or so. Even then I thought EA's method was far too hightech and work intensive to be usefull for this generation of console's. Even now when they line up in the tunnel you can see the eyes are separate, but it's not in a good way! They look lifeless, odd. Pes' are far softer and because of the more simpler technique look a lot better imo.

Maybe in the next generation the difference will come to light and FIFA will be able to take advantage from the years of modeling (faces won't change much for people from the age of 20 to 35) with added texture complexitity. But for now PES' is the better option imo.

I guess this was first said by EA. This is typical EA propaganda, turning a flaw into a good thing. Konami PR may be dumb, but EA's is hypocrite.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

*groans*

It's so tiring in here at times, everything get's simplified to which company/game is worse/better.

It's not EA spiel, it's a logical conclusion that can be drawn. I would expect most people to agree that PES' faces look far better at the moment, however their technique isn't a forward thinking one. EA's is, but at the same time they look poor now and it's still to be seen whether or not the technique will be usefull for the future. Tbh, I would rather them use PES' technique and spend more time on other parts of the game. Time will tell whether it was a good decision or not.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The response to what you can or can't do, beyond facial animation during the game and nice effects like sweating, is found in customization.

You can go and try Game Fae in easports.com and find how awesome is to create a great 3d model of your own face to create tourself. That, for example, couldn't be done in PES. Note that it's still in beta and for a lot of people just doesn't work yet. But potential is awesome.

About the rest of the discussion, EA is vastly superior technologically speaking though gains nothing from it considering the results in-screen. Of course, their work can be rewarding anytime if things like Game Face or a wider range of emotions start to be displayed in the game. Pes has good results currently, but if they find themselves in an urge of change in the near future they may suffer because they are getting left behind and have more than one year to catch up with the rest of sports gaming companies.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

So in conclusion PES has better faces atm because they're using simple technology, whereas FIFA has horrible looking faces because they are using advanced technology which may yield better results in the future...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The biggest problem with the way FIFA does it is that they don't get the correct facial details for the players. It kind of look like everyone has perfect skin in FIFA. Remove all the wrinkles and skin details from a person and he won't look that much like himself any more even though the shape of the face is the same.

Not sure I agree with dekkard regarding GameFace in FIFA 10, because to me this is the old type of technique where you apply a texture and then mold a pretty low poly mesh to fit it. Remove the image and it looks absolutely nothing like you, just the way PES has it.

GameFace in Fight Night is not like this, it is the "advanced" way in that and the results were rubbish unless you have the kind of head/face that is kind of generic and not so many unique features in the face.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Gab_ you really are missing what Game Face does. From two photographs it MODELS a high-poly count of your face. Rotate the model and see how accurate it sculpts things like nose, eyebrows, lips... it's just impressive. And results are great. Even if there's currently a bug that prevents me from altering minor things, the app modeled my face in pure awesomeness from 2 photos. It took 30 mins, though, but it's the first time I see my face really represented in 3d, and I was rotating it and saying: "god, it's me, really!". Now I imagine myself at that quality in the game, scoring against Madrid in Bernabbeu and I'm totally sold.

That is completely impossible to achieve with the PES technology (the face part, not scoring on the beranbeu...).

But yes, pes faces look great. In my opinion, FIFA faces are not horrible at all. Some are good and some are bad. Generic faces tend to look a bit better in Fifa, by the way, while well-known players look ace in PES.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Yeah I know how game face works. Might be because of how it is displayed in this app (lack of shaders etc), because it doesn't look that high poly to me. But now that I think about it, Rutter's face that they showed in game looked pretty much the same in quality as the EA faces in the game.

I must admit I checked out some of the lads faces they had done in the FIFA 10 thread and the uncanny likeness of the scans were frightening. It really does look phenomenal. What an amazing addition that is by EA. I'm pretty certain they use the same system for Fight Night round 4, but I maybe wrong.
