In the Mood for translation
I have to get up and watch a bit of PES 2010 today. But it is not to play. This is to ensure that everything is correct, so that there is language friendly. PES 2010 is Konami's first PES game that will more than five languages. The game has been translated by a language name to Swedish, but unfortunately I was moderately satisfied with their football vocabulary so today, I will try to correct it I do not like. Actually, I have experience in this area since before when I translated the football title Kick Off 2002 into Swedish, translation is a hard nut indeed, in Sweden, we use much English words in our vocabulary of football and it sounds pretty often mesigt when you translate a game. Lixom It sounds a bit contrived. But translation is more to young to feel more at home with Konami's soccer title and that's good thinking.

We'll see if I can find no language frogs that I can show here on the blog later!''

Thanks for google translate ;)

I'll give this a listen tonight. I've been eagerly awaiting Riot's return to the podcasts. It's been too long since his last appearance and his is the opinion I respect the most. Fanboy he is not.

I think it's been quite apparent from the last few weeks of podcasts that Suff isn't blown away by PES2010.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I'm not sure whether this has already been posted but it's a good quality video.

http://www.jeuxvideo.tv/video/pro-evolution-soccer-2010.html#view:295824

This video is worrying me....it is a mix of what i dislike in old/new pes...sliding tackles way to effective to block a pass, running animations are awful, transition animations when a player turns embarassing, cutbacks, attackers going through defenders like they were invisible and horrible ball deflections...everything looks so scripted.

I hope the final game is was better than this.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Nice podcast and I like the Riot guy. His opinion is well worth the listen..
What did he have to say that was so interesting. I'm at work and wont get a chance today.

It is a little boring seeing the same sort of comments zeemeister, but I also agree with charlievolano. That video doesn't mask any of the flaws at all, they are in your face and plain for all to see.

The thing that worries me the most was the goals scored. On both goals Torres was off balance, yet he still manages to power it perfectly into the net with real accuracy. I bet the guy controlling it didn't even aim, it just automatically went in. This is where it still looks arcady for me, where has the skill in the shooting gone? and how are they still able to pass the ball across long distances on the pitch perfectly every time to feet? :BORED:

It is worrying because so far a lot of my concerns with 09 are starting to creep in again, and the only big difference I can see aside from the huge graphical update is the freedom of dribbling and flow to the play. The passing, shooting and crossing are the same, it's only animations that have changed in this area.

Riot was saying PES 2010 is an improvement over PES 2009 and if you like PES 2010 you will like this game. Animations not much better than PES 2009 though on wide cam the graphics look similar also. Him and Suff both said the 360 movement seems more like 16.

Riot loves the Indivduality in PES 2010. Saying the key players feel great when you in control of them. Said the audio is still a joke and bad compared to other sports games.

He also talks a little about FIFA 10 and saying that is very good and they are doing some amazing stuff.

You definately need to aim MJ, all this auto scoring is BS. Your talking about Torres here, one of the worlds most prolific strikers. If he doesnt have an advantage over 95% of the other strikers in the game when it comes to finishing, then we might as well all just play 'the other game'.

On a different note, I played online last night for 5 hours straight on PES 2009 and everybody I played just wanted to play football. No sprint cheats. I was very pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it, I had some brilliant games. And Valencia are just an absolute joy to play football with, boy I love that team on PES.

My pet hate with PES is the shooting. For me not enough variables are taking into account with shooting. i.e. balance, foot, pressure, angles etc

Him and Suff both said the 360 movement seems more like 16.

Dont think that will surprise many. From the videos the 360 movement doesnt jump out at you at all.

I think he means save your demo replays to post on...

That would be nice.

You can save the individual goals via the highlights screen. Maybe he means you can save the full highlights as one save. That would be pretty cool, but I would expect it to use a decent chunk of memory storage.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I hope so Jimmy, because the position Torres was in it didn't look like he could get any power behind the ball.

OMG !!! Honestly, and no dis-respect, but everything you have just mentioned IS taken MASSIVELY into consideration, as is the stats. I would go as far as to say, and again, I mean this in all sincerity, that is THE most inaccurate post regards PES I have ever read. It's exactly those things that seperate PES from Fifa. And the main reason I play PES. From a footballers perspective, in PES 2009 you actually know before you have struck the ball whether you have caught it sweetly or not. Whether you have rushed it, mis-timed it, body angles wrong, too close to your feet (unless attempting a lob) not on favoured foot, height of the ball, is it rising or have you caught it on the drop. Everything. If you have a footballing brain you know that if you have done everything to ensure the best possible strike/pass etc, the rest is then down to the player your controlling and his abilities. Period.

And I'm sorry if this sounds arrogant, but anyone who doesnt understand or appreciate where I'm coming from with this, simply doesnt understand football.

That is a crazy, crazy statement in my book.

I havent seen the video yet MJ, so I will get back to you once I've watched it tonight.

But, I think there has to be some artistic license in certain areas MJ when you working on creating a stat based performance game. Like the Messi cross that got slated. True, looking back he did need a little more backlift, but the theory behind the cross is that of sublime technique. The animation may not have matched the cross in that particular case but 8/9 times out of 10 it does.

But that isnt the issue. What Konami are doing is saying a player of Messi's quality is capable of making such a cross with the outside of the boot, with accuracy. I have played PES 2009 to death and the vast majority of players in the game wouldnt have even attempted the outside of the boot technique, never mind completed the pass successfully. Forget the animation for now, that isnt the point.

I think it mainly takes foot and pressure into account - I think because of Seabass' idea of wanting to replicate what happens in real life you see goals from amazing angles. The only problem I have with that is IRL you will only see RVP or 'Dinho or Arshavin and the like with tight angle magic whereas in PES most any player can do it and the goalie will look like a total sieve so the shot doesnt look as spectacular.

Edit: I wast going to bring up that the shooting was far more representative in PES than FIFA but should've known Jimmy would drill it.

Konami need to add the massive bruise on Torres' face, as well adding Carragher's fancy new hat.

(COYS).

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

you can do it in pes 2009 as well.
No, you can't.

I'm talking about saving the highlights reel at the end of the game summarizing the highlights of both halves. So when you have a interesting game, you can easily recapture its best moments anytime you want.
