PES2008 PS2 version is the lost game / video thread

Hi All,

I had a random question please, just started a new ML on PES2008 using the Laziale OF.

I selected professional as the starting difficulty, in hindsight this was a bit optimistic. I forgot how challenging this game was, especially when starting with the default ML team.

It won’t let me change the difficulty in the ML settings, am I right in thinking that on 2008 you can only change difficulty again at the end of each season? Thanks 👍🏻

I.did not know this feature. I thought once you pick the difficulty you cannot change it anymore.

The only doubt I had is if you enable the option to change the environnement settings when setting up your ML

Cheers @Juventino32 - That’s a good point, I wonder if I have missed something when setting the ML up.

I seem to definitely recall the option to adjust the difficulty at some point, but I am stretching back nearly 20 years 😂
 
Without deleting yours, try to create a new one, pay attention to enable the possibility to adjust the environnement settings and try to modify the difficulty.
If you can, probably you'll have no choice with your initial ML

Nice one mate, I just tried exactly that but I could not see any setting beforehand that would allow me to impact whether or not I could adjust the difficulty mid-season.

Not sure if it matters but it is PSP version 👍🏻

Actually if i remember right Cyprus has the mayority of their squad licenced in several games from Pes2008 to 2014, it's sad that after all these years there is no easy way to extract physical appearance data from all these hidden players, like a tool with CSV export for example.
 
This game is so challenging, the AI and game mechanics are ruthless. It has actually made me realise how easy we have it with the modern football games.

Try and play a pass with your back to play - 9 times out of 10 it will fail.

Try and shoot whilst your running off balance - Most of the time you will sky it.

Stats matter too, passing, shooting, control - It all feels different depending on the quality of player you’re controlling.

I am getting my ass tore out of me most games but I am really enjoying it. It is so rewarding when it all comes together and you manage to work a nice attack.
 
I’ve toned the difficulty down to regular in season 3 of my ML (@Juventino32 you can adjust the difficulty at the end of the season during the negotiation window).

Regular definitely feels like the sweet spot for now on the PSP version. The gameplay is a bit less hectic but still challenging enough that you don’t just stroll through a game.

First 3 games of season 3 have looked like this:

Home v Anderlecht (1-0 win)
Away v Dínamo Zagreb (3-1 defeat)
Home v Feyenoord (2-0 win)

Hopefully this is the season that we finally escape Division 2!

@Balo , both US and EU version of PES 2008 have the salary issue. The PSP version of EU and US at least - both - fixed the issue related to classic/hidden players appearing in ML like in the EU PS2 version.

i started downloading the asian or japanese region versions of PES games on the PSP (Winning eleven versions). i noticed a minute difference. the main difference was that all of them had superstar as a locked difficulty but selectable. are the winning eleven (japanese versions of pes games on the psp) games easier than their PES counterparts? im very curious. i also played exhibition matches in one or two of them. i think it was 2011/2012. superstar difficulty seemed to be easier than Top player on the EU/US version. konami and their obscure ports lol.
 
I noticed that when I played PES 2008 in long camera instead of wide screen, the game was faster and the AI was more aggressive. Am I the only one who noticed this?
 
Hi, maybe not relating to the topic, but anyone knows how to play this game using PCSX2 on PC with widescreen without stretching ? Thanks

There should be a widescreen patch for it somewhere (it's a pnach file) if you activate it on the PCSX2 settings you should be good to go

just in case you're interest i leave attached the official ball for wc 82, you have 2 files in there

españa_82.bin <- texture file
Beach_Ball_ps2.bin <- model file

open 0_text with ggs or dkz and import over the correct files, and just in case you need a small guide, unknown_00000 is the model and 00001 is the texture for one of the balls, this sequence apply to each ball, first model then texture :)

Yeah i agree regarding Human(s) vs CPU, PES 2008 is the most challenging.

Human(s) vs Human(s), definitely PES 5/WE 9/LE, you get the best gameplay combined with with the best "AI" :LOL: , but you know from time to time the CPU can pull out some interesting games, not meant to sabotage this thread but here is an interesting recording of what i mean:

Download the Pnach wide-screen file for the version you are playing and put the file in cheat WS folder.
Select 16:9 view if that's appropriate and also select enable wide-screen patches.
It will only work if it's an unmodified ISO. If the ISO has been modified (eg patched) then you need the Pnach file specific to that ISO.
 
Has anyone noticed that the ball weight and physics in PES 2008's snow mode are closer to those in PES 5? It would be great to be able to play like this in sunny weather as well. Is there a way to do this?

I regularly host the lads for “Pizza, Pro and Beers” before we head off to games. Last season, we played three games - WE9LE, PES 2014 and WE 2008. All excellent.

WE 2008 was the overall favourite, despite our nostalgia for 5. This was also the case for one of the sons, as we gave him a lesson on retro football away from the nonsense of EAFC.

It’s better for “pick up and play” sessions - I think the reason for PES 6’s success - as well as when playing Co-Op versus COM.

I will always have a soft spot for PES 5 and WE9LE, but the chaps have spoken haha so it will be WE 2008 loading up again in the next few weeks.
 
I've been playing nothing but older titles on my PC using an emulator.

After weeks of playing, I think my final answer is PES 2008 is the best footie game Konami ever made. I always prefered Winning Eleven Japanese imports and found them slightly better than PES but not this time. PES 2008 is better than Japanese WE 2008.

I probably scored the best goal I've ever scored the other day playing with Liverpool. Will upload it later.

PES 2008 is the final boss
