PES 2019 Demo Impressions Thread

.. instead of a 3rd game, I connected 2 controllers and did a pvp game, using barca vs arg... just to test out a few things.

+Kick off passes now actually go directly to where you pass, and the player closest will now actually get highlighted and be instantly controllable. This was better in 18 than in 17, but it still sucked, particularly on full manual, when the player you kicked off to, just let the ball go by him.

+When on edge of box, around that area, and you press full bar (on full manual shoot), the ball will always go over the bar... im sure in 18, this wasn't always the case.. sometimes you'd still get rockets on target even on full bar shot. Now it goes well over bar.. definite improvement, but still I reckon it should be more sensitive, ie. even 3/4 on most players or with wrong foot should go well over..

… now to balance it out with 2 negatives I found:

-R2 curling placement shot still broken on full manual shoot (when using L2 Arrow). Just like 18,17 and 16, even if you aim manual shot arrow well inside the post/goal, using R2 you automatically kick the ball well wide, which never curls in... you practically have to aim these shots at the centre of the goal. Weird bug by Konami. On auto shot, it works awesome, how it should curling into corner.. looks neat..but too easy to perform

-This is a weird on.. I was doing my R2 shooting practice at Camp Neu, and every time I shot past the post, just as the ball passes a few feet over the bi line, I get a very very very slight stutter... anyone else notice this... happens pretty much every time... not sure about the other stadium..but at camp neu, summer day, happens all the time.

.. now for some more 1vcpu :)

First impressions...

What a awful game, a really small upgrade on the 2018 version. Sluggish gameplay, same op tiki taka and lob passing.

Need to play a bit more.

Not blown away from the 5 games offline I played but certainly not the worst first impressions I have had over the years so cosmetic first

the lighting is beautiful,
player models have more variation in how they look some more muscular looking
stadium and crowd, nets look great
player shorts look weird like plastic lego shorts?
Better crowd roar when you score but still could be improved almost felt like a fan made mod

I can only base opinion on the demo but after playing 300 games on ML PES 2018 superstar the highest difficulty on 2019 felt easier the AI play more human did not see any lob ball spamming but found it so easy to counter attack bypassing the AI midfield with 2 passes thats a bit of a worry...

Had 1 or 2 fouls against me each game and the AI booked but inbetween those fouls it felt like there was no fighting or resistance across the pitch

Passing on lvl 1 too assisted

Cursor change is fixed and perfect

Speaking of online please can someone play 10 games minimum and update us on momentum shifts, kick off goals, last min goals, losing control of players etc?

Thanks. Thats very strange for a demo.. but also very amazing. As an online only player, PES or FIFA demos never give me the proper representation of the game since demos are always vs AI.

I would love to play some online FULL MANUAL matches against people in 2019 demo!
I agree, i am online only and hope it plays like 18 beta did.

First game here AC vs Inter (AI - Top Player) using PA1, basic shooting, auto-slide and auto-feint OFF

first impression, using the work PS4 Pro the game looks absolute incredible visually, the pace really is spot on, it's utter madness how the videos we've watched make it look 3x4 faster than it actually is, I can even see why those silly italian kids didn't like it if you compare to the videos, some people might see it as cumbersome but i thoroughly enjoyed it.

PASSING.. is... nicer, as in the physics are really nice and it looks and feels good but PA1 i'm not sure has changed at all, i did not misplace a single pass and I haven't played a game of PES in months. and going by my playing of PES2017, if i had gone even a few weeks without playing and gone straight to manual i would have been all over the place. So it's safe to say assistance wise at least, it's nowhere near manual if it's even changed at all, however the general feeling of passing does feel good.

I only counted one backheel from the AI which was an intricate one touch pass to set up a shot and it felt relevant, I had 2 backheels, both of which were in the last 10 mins when i was trying to ping pong one touch it deliberately to see if there was any error (there wasn't but 2 backheels did come of it) so unfortunately it looks like backheels will be a reward for a player that just wants to hammer the X button as soon as they receive the ball.

Physicality wise the game feels ok, better than videos, I fouled the AI once and it was an innocuous PES5 like tackle, i didn't receive a single foul however the slower pace of the game and the 5 min match definitely didn't help. need to play some more games to really see if there's been any improvements there.

Didn't really get any shots away to judge shooting, but going to play a few more games now and see how it goes.

my 1 game impression is that it's clearly better than PES2018 but some areas that needed improving don't seem to be... now, to play more!

nice little write up, on the PS4Pro the game looked awesome

Why would just sit in your own box though?

That´s probably to test out AI´s aggression.
Imho AI attacks aggressive, at least when you are on the field and try to play football.

Those testings were made also like dribbling with your GK through the whole pitch and score just to prove that the game sucks, or trying to shoot back to your own goal on manual shooting to prove that manual shooting sucks.

Comprehensible but at the same time it´s not, as you never would play that way.

Last post before I head to bed.. after maybe 5 more games... (only 25mins ffs)..
+Someone mentioned it, and thinking about it more as I was defending, the response of player switching has definitely improved from 2018. Also seems to go to the nearest most ideal player.... good stuff Konami. Fingers crossed its also the case when playing 2v2 games.

+NETS NETS NETS.. cannot believe I didn't mention this. Fk they look good this year.. another level.. and they sound awesome

Big point/tip regarding sound.. net sound, but particularly BALL SOUND (which ive already mentioned has improved immensely) - I change my sound setting so that everthing is at level 3, except for pitch sounds (which obviously includes the ball kick sounds)… this alteration makes a huge difference.. trust me... having crowd noise at 3ish and other pitch sounds at 15 just adds to the weightiness of the game... try it out!!!

+++ Best feeling football game to date - the control, response, together with the weightiness and ideal speed (default 0) of the game just feels so good.. For me its quite a big improvement (control wise) to pes2018.

Awesome !!!!

PA1 for me was much freer than PES2018 and PA2 was just like the current PA1 on PES2018, I'll see when I get home later

It's not freeer at all. Same really only difference is slightly better defensive ai that read passes better. But you still can't pass in front of player with a normal pass

+Crowds, they way they actually look this year, are finally acceptable. I think they are the best looking crowd of any football game to day actually. There is actually realistic variety about the spectators.. and they look decent.. not so polygonal like in previous years. Havent noticed if they are facing the ball this year...you know.. in previous years how the crowd faces one direction, while the ball/action is on other side of the field... like they are fixated on a streaker away from the real action...

anyways.. for those stuck on pa1 and auto shoot, I urge you to got full frontal manual for everything.. passing, shooting (basic through ball as this is same as manual on P0, not advanced)... its amazing and I think this is where the game is at. Just wished the R2 was fixed... hoping a patch finally fixes this. Weird how not many mentioned this for pes2018 aswell.

Finally.. anyone notice the stutter.. when the ball crosses the goal line at camp neu… ????
