PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Dortmunds tactics on the demo are atrocious is whats going on Dudu.

I played 3 games as them vs Inter, lost all three on superstar vs Inter.

Counter Attack
Long Pass
Player Support 1
Defensive line is set to 1
Compactness set to 1

Yet have a 3-4-3 formation which is designed for possession football and a HIGH line thank you very much. I just think its sheer incompetence and Konami made errors in inputting their tactics since the settings they gave dortmund make no sense whatsoever and are actually contradictory.

For me the game is good after 4 games, i've lost every match on superstar which is good its a challenge, again more for the locked tactics and i haven't explored the limits at all, i'm getting used to this very different loose feel compared to the last 4 games, these changes have really made the game feel completely different to 2017 which takes a while to get used to.

Main issue bar the dreadful tactics are crossing is overpowered as per usual like the last 2-3 years. Some awful Goalkeeping at times.

Defensive lines in general are too far back so every match feels like a pre-season friendly rather than a competitive game.

Yeah I wouldnt doubt this have a lot to do with tatics like you said. But even so, the way PES have been recreating how teams play counter attack game is absolute terrible, it is so directed, so scripted, automatic, and on superstar theres an scripting going on.

You said crossing is overpowered. It might be so. But big part of the problem is thaf areal fight in our box is cimpletelty unbalanced. Cpu attacking AI anticipate and win 99% of the balls, its ridiculous. Its 100% scripted.

I'll give a try tomorrow playing against other teams and hopeffuly I will more tight midfield, more anticipations, more passing being cut, shootings being blocked etc, because agains BD Ai defending is ridiculous on theses aspects too.

Just spent an extended period of time with the demo. Here are some of my impressions after enjoying the beta, and spending the entire year playing PES2017 (Master League (Superstar) and Online).

The game looks fine, player models seem a little skinny and the menus are pretty slick but nothing ground breaking.
I played only Barcelona vs Dortmund, with multiple different line-ups due to form.

First things first the game plays just fine, from a mechanical stand point. Passing is crisp, shooting feels ok but I discovered one issue. Animations are the best they have ever been.
But the major problem as has been mentioned multiple times, is the horrid player positioning and as I discovered the AI loves to exploit this fact by bombarding me with high through balls to the wings over and over again. I will assume that this is a result of the fact that we can not modify tactics, because if this is a bug and it is not fixed, the game may as well be considered broken if it ships without a fix. The defensive line and the defensive structure from the AI is disheartening. At times from kick-off I would just pass back to busquets wait until Suarez set himself up beside the cb. Succeed with a no pressure pass to him, make a simple turn, lose defender and blast it in. There is no sense of collective panic from the AI when the ball is entering the final third.

My second issue is the long range shooting. In my first match, on Superstar, I took a shot from 25ish yards with Dennis Suarez and it traveled at snails pace into the top corner. This is a shot the goal keeper should have dealt with, but I put it down to beginners luck, so next play I gave the ball to Messi and cut inside (over-powered skill as most players seem to be able to glide past defenders with ease running perpendicular to them) and thought I'd have another shot again from roughly 25 yards. And guess what it flew into the top corner again.
I was using the same assistance levels as PES2017, and in that game, after multiple full ML seasons I barely scored a handful of long range blasts and when they went in, it felt earned.

The base is of this game is amazing, only a few issues are holding it back. I imagine they will be sorted before release. I also believe the playing against another human will be much more fun, I will report on that experience later.

P.S. When approaching goalkeepers in the box while not sprinting they do not come off the line and make for easy finishes.

manual play
player camera
+1 game speed because 0 is slow motion ball

AI passing unrealistically accurate, comical really.
to much space
shooting is so easy to hit it square on the laces, i couldn't miss blindfolded. my shots have been on target almost every time.
i won 4-2 in 10min game
it's a goal festival, FIFA like. Because of unrealistic shooting / passing and to much space. There's no error.
Football games are so offensive today.

so why never tell adam bhatti to change shoot??why??plllllllllllllllllllllease all of user say it to adam im sure when they found that we are big group they try to fix shooting system pleaase tryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Just to add, I still believe in the core gameplay here. It is still really good and far superior to its rival, they just need to hammer out a few things. :)

I am willing to bet that you haven't played it yet. I really am. Dunno what it is, but I think you make stuff up. It isn't that you are being negative, as some others also are, but I just think you are jive-talking.

Can you post a video of a match using those settings of yours please?

Oh, and out of curiosity, what pass support level and shooting are you using?

Finally, what happens in the post match highlights when a goal is scored?

You would be doing me and I dare say a few others a massive favour by letting us see a game from you, using the settings you describe, as well as answering those very simple questions.

I reckon you are at it and believe me, I would love nothing more to be proven wrong here.

No conferring.

Just played it for half an hour this morning so this might be early feedback (I played a couple of "portions" of matches to find the best settings for me, then just a full match with Borussia Dortmund against Inter), but I kinda like it.
Everything I will write here has been seen with manual controls, -2 game speed and (I don't remember how it's called in English) the difficulty level straight below Superstar.

  • The flow of the game is great at -2. Plus, it gives you the impression that once you're in control of the ball you can really dictate the tempo as you wish. Want to push on the throttle? There you have frantic end-to-end football. Want to play it slow and beautiful? You can.
The only bad thing is that I suppose this will be the same also online, so be prepared to some FIFA-style end-to-end football if you find the wrong opponent.
  • Keepers perform saves I had never seen before in any PES game. I'll go as far as saying that some of them shouldn't really be possible for an average keeper. They also do the occasional blunder, though: Handanovic once literally handed the ball to Dembele instead of delivering it to D'Ambrosio and basically put me in front of the open goal. Too bad I was using manual controls.
  • I've seen the CPU misplace some passes. At a point in the match (halfway through the second half) Inter had a 'completed passes' ratio that was as low as 60%. And they weren't only interceptions or passes landing directly onto my players' feet... There were some misplaced passes too, mainly through balls.
  • CPU's first-touch isn't always perfect. I've seen Candreva fumble a ball passed to him by Kondogbia (the pass was indeed very powerful) and have it bounce away.
  • Shots seem more varied. You could still pull the occasional rocket but I've seen also different shots. Not every attempt is a rocket anymore.
  • It looks like tactics are very important: in the first half of the match we were almost dominating. In the second half they started resorting to wide balls to Perisic and Candreva (with the occasional overlap of D'Ambrosio) and they became more and more dangerous, until they eventually scored the only goal of the match (a header by Icardi from a D'Ambrosio cross).
Of course, it also has some things that I didn't really like:
  • The new ball shielding mechanics didn't convince me much. While it's true that they kick in almost every time you need them, it's also true that they were used in a couple of occasions when I wouldn't have wanted them to activate (for example after winning a ball, when I would've tried to run away with it instead). I would still prefer ball shielding to be manual, and tohave to press a button to trigger it.
It doesn't happen as often as it did in the beta though, at least this is what I saw.
  • The ball still rolls a little too much on the ground, but maybe it's just different grass settings to the ones I was used to. Gotta try long and dry grass to see the difference.
  • There's still too much space in the midfield. I could pick the ball with Durm just outside of my box and have him run undisturbed for 40, 50 metres before an opponent would bother to tackle me.
Still, it's a very good overall experience. I'd give it a solid 7,5 out of 10 (maybe also an 8).

can you stop telling people how to feel please?? If he doesn't enjoy it then his posts are valid.

I haven't been here long and am still a evo web newbie but I have already worked out that you have some serious issues when it comes to pes...it's a game remember that and don't attack others for having a different opinion to you

Does everyone have to be a nodding dog? yes this game is best thing ever otherwise Curdstar will be annoyed and start demanding screenshots and 19 different replays of a goal?

reel it in you're always getting into arguments

So, haven't had the time to test the demo yet but is it the general feel that PA 1 has been made more assisted than the Beta? Disappointing if that's the case since I found the Beta being pretty good when playing PA1. Oh well, another year of manual passing then...

Honestly the lack of any error in passing makes it a complete joke. A 70 rated cb can first time back heal it perfectly everytime

Yeah, I noticed that when I would press their backline, the second the AI ran out of options it first timed a crossfield pass accurately to a teammate, some really strange behavior. Last year high pressure would result in their loss of possession or them booting out toward the side lines. It really seems like they have coded some strange decision making into the demo. Granted it did not happen everytime, it just seems a bit off.

Also the complaint that people should be playing using certain settings(manual etc) for a better experience is a strange one. The default settings are what the majority of the people buying the game will be playing on, that is where this game needs to be at its best and exciting.

I really find it weird how toxic these boards can be, but that is the case with many enthusiast communities. People should not be driven away from airing their complaints or compliments. A bigger community is better for everyone.
Not everyone is going to like or hate the same things about the same product.

I think u have answered your own question here, the majority (playing online) want it to be easy...

I'm fine with playing Online Divisions with manual passing and set to "similar settings" when looking for opponents, last year there were plenty of people playing manual passing that way. Only sad thing is that some of the individuality in passing gets lost.

It is not that strange if what they say something isn't in the game but is if they change some settings. The reason I started using Advanced Shooting is because I want more control and Basic shooting is complete and utter pants.

That is an excellent point. Playing online against another person on default setting(if game was inherently balanced fairly) should still be the standard way 90% of people should be playing and enjoying the game. Just because people want to win, it does not mean it has to be riddled with hyper accurate passes and shots. That is where Konami need to find right balance. :)

wrong, 4 games and quit. I posted my game settings. It's so easy to shoot on target, soooo easy! AI hasn't miss placed a pass in 4 games. And i always post videos, the proof is coming.

I guess they are afraid that people won't play if the learning curve is to steep, sad but probably true.

True.

Sadly it only takes two to make a thread look toxic.
Will those two exchanging the personal stuff ( And You know who You are ) just S.T.F.U. or we send You to ban camp for 30 days each.

That should solve a few problems.

Had a long day yesterday, quickly created an NZ account and played 3 games with my son before I went to bed.

Gonna play more to test AI and stuff.

First impressions have been good, since I really liked the beta.
Game feels heavier for sure...I know because I played a lot of PES 2017 lately.

Defending works better than in the beta.
My son tried to dribble through my defense with Neymar, it´s not impossible to stop that but it´s also challenging and you have to take care.

Ball physics are better than in 2017. The ball bobbles much more on ground passes.

We played with game speed 0, pace is good, but need to test out -1 when I play alone.

This is NOT exactly like PES 2017 to me. It is similar, yes and I think that is good, because I liked PES 2017.
So, why not building on that base?

Tbh, who really expected a whole new game??

Need to play more on this but I already know that it plays very well, fluid, with better animations than last year and full manual is a joy.

I just miss game tactics like we had it years ago. I don´t like the fluid formation thing.
I wanne be able telling every single player what to do.
I remember having that in PES 2010.

Apologise for recording did it on my mobile. Anyhow this is infuriating. Last minute soft cross Palmed onto strikers foot. Also ball never even touches the keepers hand, Clear gap as ball changes direction

Im not driven away by conclusion already but this is the most confusing game u will ever play ever, especially football, whether when it comes to build up play, this is where pes shines, that every game feels different.
But u will get on the other hand, the shooting and the positioning and space on the field, and then running forward with ur cb without being intercepted or cpu having the urgency to close him down in a realistic way,
Add to that still maybe barging into a attacker will not result in a penalty most probably, but u could still have a slightest touch of him and penalty given for most absurd of touches i don t know but this is the most confusing football game u can play ever, its very confusing to give a general opinion about what changed from 2017 , i honestly can t say i am impressed with what i played, the general concensus is that this is a polished pes 2017 as this is the closest opinion i could say abt this game

The gap, you've just got to pretend that isn't there. It's a graphical issue rather than a gameplay issue - it'd be different if the ball was going through his hand (then it would absolutely be a gameplay issue), but the ball is reacting as intended. It's just that the graphics "can't keep up" with the game, as it were.

It's not like he's using the force to swat the ball away when it's 6ft in-front of him.

I wouldn't say it was entirely unrealistic for the ball to end up at the strikers' foot - I get the frustration but it will happen to you too, not just the AI!

Gap was hard to capture but it's clearly there. My may concern is he should of just caught it.

My other concerns are shooting is far too easy even on manual. Keepers animations have improved but it's very easy to pick your spot
No fouls

Also why can't they do away with that awful zoom in on broadcast cam, the cam is easily the better one but it gets spoiled when it zooms in
